Uncertainty analysis on the net flow discharge (NFD) influencing the long-term material transport and the simulation results of the salinity and COD concentration distribution using the MIKE21 diffusion model in Gyeonggi bay and Han-River estuary is carried out. The NFD flowing the Gyodongdo - Seokmodo channel via the North channel of Ganghwado is estimated about 97% of the total NFD and the NFD of the Yeomha channel is estimated as only $2.5{\sim}3.0%$. On the other hand, the uncertainty defined as the difference by the different time-scale data input is analysed by the comparison of the model simulation result of the salinity and COD concentration distribution. One is computed based on the daily river flow data, and the other is computed based on the monthlymean river flow data. The results show that the salinity and COD concentration differences are about -10~20 psu and ${\pm}1.0\;mg/L$ during the summer season having a high flow discharge in Yeomha channel, respectively. The difference is clearly negligible in the open sea area.
This study was designed to present a river model with an aim at restoring the ecosystem and improving the landscape along the urban rivers on the basin of the Namhan river, a core life channel for the National Capital region. The revelation of botanical status, transition trend and correlation of plants might lead to providing the urban river restoration projects and ecological river formation projects with basic data for a model of ideal aquatic ecology and landscape. The outcomes of this study could be summed up as follows: 1. Communities of Juglans mandshurica, Cornus controversa and Fraxinus mandshurica constitute the main portion of flora at or around uppermost branch streams of the River Namhanis harbored mainly in and around small brooks 2. Typical terrestrial forest communities formed around the River Namhan are composed mainly of Larix leptolepis, Pinus rigida, planned forestation of Pinus koraiensis, Quercus acutissima, Quercus variabilis and Pinus densiflora. 3. The analysis into terrestrial environment of plant communities showed a high content of $P_2O_5$, typical communities found in the artificially disturbed land Finally, it seems also desirable to continue to make every exertion to explore the relationship between fluvial and terrestrial ecologies with a purport of building up a model of natural streams in urban area based on the surveyed factors for plant life, forest communities, soil and landscape and, moreover, on the forecasting for overall influences derived from the relation upon the ecosystem.
Results investigated backwater phenomena at Geumho river basin to get a basic data for Daegu basin area development plan are as the follows. 1. It is a A=0.35 L 1.848 (r = 0.97), the relationship between basin area and river length at Geumho river. 2. Dividing the rainfall of Geumho river basin as two parts, a first half rainfall and a second half rainfall, the amount of a first half rainfall appeared 57.5% comparison with total rainfall. 3. The maximum flood discharge appeared 12 hrs. continuous rainfall rather than 24 hrs. continuous rainfall. 4. Results investigated backwater phenomena from Geumho II bridge to chungchun appeared the rising water level of 69 cm, 55 cm, 44 cm, at section III in the starting point water level of 1.8 m, 2.4 m, 4.0 m respectively. 5. Results investigated backwater phenomena by the flood water level appeared a similar form. There was a average rising water level of 30 cm at section III. At the results of this computation, it was confirmed that section III was affected the highest backwater phenomena among the observed river reaches in Geumho river. In addition, this paper should be given a assistance to decide a economic and safe section in construction of bank of river and estuary barrage.
Geomorphological, bed material and hydraulic characteristics are basis informations for the planning, design and management of the river in the aspect of flood control and environmental conservation, and it is very important to use these informations for the design of stable channel. In this study, dominant discharge was selected, geomorphological and hydraulic characteristics were analyzed using that discharge and also the characteristics of bed materials distribution were analyzed and bed materials-flow resistance relationship was evaluated, for the upstream section of Namgang dam. The dominant discharge was estimated a return period of approximately 1.5 year and stream type were classified Segment 1 and Segment 2 in this stream. Also, the frequency of riffle-pool showed 4.4 because this study area has the characteristics of natural channel that have not channel-crossing structures. In dominant discharge, according to the results that analyzed relationship between $h/d_{50}$ and $V/u_*$ to calculate flow resistance by bed materials, Julian's formula showed to appropriate in channel where is relatively close to natural river and is predominantly consisted of gravel, cobble, boulder and rock in mountain, and it was confirmed that the image processing methodology will be easily applied to the analysis of bed materials distribution in future.
This present study conducted the impact of the restoration of low-flow channel on fish habitat in a reach of the Wonju Stream, Korea. The target species were Zacco koreanus, a dominant species in the middle- and upper-stream of Wonju Stream. The River2D model was used for the computation of the flow and the habitat suitability index model was used to estimate the quantity and quality of fish habitat using habitat suitability curves. In order to restore the study area, the low-flow channel was identified through the bankfull discharge of the study reach, and the best hydraulic section was designed. In addition, various restoration techniques were applied to the low-flow channel through rocks, pool/riffle structures, and the change of the channel width. Simulation results indicated that the restoration of the best hydraulic section effects decreased habitat suitability for the target species. However, when various restoration techniques were applied, the WUA (Weighted Usable Area) was improved by about 11%.

Levees, the hydro-engineering structure, are similar to earth dams in aspects of shape and structure. However, they are different from earth dams in the external force conditions. As a levee is the structure that is complexly affected by the flow and the water stage in the river, it may be unreasonable to analyze the seepage safety as previous studies derived from the neglect of river flow. In this study, an experiment was conducted to investigate flow structures in a trapezoidal open-channel and the influence of the channel flow on the seepage through a levee. Flow structures in a trapezoidal open-channel were distinguished from a rectangular open-channel such as velocity and bottom shear stress distributions. In case with the flow velocity of 0.5 m/s, seepage water heads were higher 10 percent as compared with the stagnant case. This result is caused by dynamic heads, secondary currents, turbulent fluctuation forces, and various physical factors. It is suggested that external force boundary considered in terms of the flow as well as the water stage is proper to seepage analyses.
An occurrence of inclined heterolithic stratification (IHS) is described from a tidal point bar in a 40-m-deep distributary of the macrotidai, Han River delta, Korea. The channel bank demonstrates a convex-upward profile with intermittent presence or wave-formed scarps and terraces near the low-water level. The vertical succession of IHS is approximately 25 m thick and dips into the channel with angles reaching up to $14^{\circ}C$. The IHS overlies 15 m of trough cross-bedded sand deposited in the channel bottom. Even though the channel as a whole is ebb dominated, the preserved cross bedding is predominantly flood directed because the mutually evasive nature of the ebb and flood currents causes the point bar surface to be flood dominated. The IHS itself consists of inter-stratified fine sand, sandy silt, and silt with an fining-upward textural trend. Seasonal discharge variations of the Han River are not obvious in the deposits, because tile large size, distal location, and energetic tidal environment of the studied channel reduces the impart of river-stage fluctuations.

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the channel changes according to the temporal and spatial distribution of the deposition area by the vegetation invasion in Kyesung-river. The deposition area mainly occurred by landslide and debris flow from the headwater channel. And also the movement of subsequent downstream depends upon the site of deposits by a varity erosional processes. As the age of deposition area is older, it had a tendency to stable by plant invasion relatively. The vegetations grown in deposition area were very effective to estimate a historical deformation process of river-bed occurred by landslide. The vegetations around deposition area consisted of the same as tree species grown in forest area of circumference like Pinus densiflora, Styrax japonica, Quercus acutissima and Salix gracilistyla. If the torrential stream is flooding, the deposition area of 1 to 5 years can be change to the channel easily. Deposition area of 11 to 23 years had a high river-bed because it passed long time since deposited, and amount of sedimention is much more in wide than in narrow channel. It is consider that the change of channel had many influenced by the span of survial time, scale and movement frequency of deposition area after the vegetation invasion.
Investigations were carried out to observe the seasonal succession of phytoplankton, and viable counts of bacteria from the mid to lower reaches of Nakdong Fiver. An intensive monitoring was conducted from May to December 1999 biweekly at 6 sites in a main channel and 3 tributaries. Although there are several sites with high nutrient loading from the basin, all of study sites showed mesotrophic states owing to high discharge(June~September). Relatively low algal biomass and CFUs(mean of chi. a, $12.3{\pm}$11.5 $\mu\textrm{g}${\el}l$, CFUs : 1.8${\times}10^7$) were observed during the rainy season. The diatom population was dominant(over 85% of total community) year-long with peaks(Stephanodiscus hantzchii) in the fall and winter. Dominance of blue-green algal groups during the summer was not observed in the summer. Microorganisms peaked in the summer and fall(June~September), affected mainly by the inputs of phytoplankton and nutrients. Biomass of phytoplankton and CFU counts were higher in the Kumho River than other tributaries and main channel.

The serious problem facing two-dimensional finite element hydraulic model is the treatment of wet and dry areas. This situation is encountered in most practical river and coastal engineering problems, such as flood propagation, dam break analysis and so on. Especially, dry areas result in mathematical complications and require special treatment. The objective of this study is to investigate the wet and dry parameters that have direct relevance to model performance in situations where inundation of initially dry areas occurs. Several numerical simulations were carried out, which examined the performance of the marsh porosity method of RMA-2 model to investigate for application of parameters. Experimental channel with partly dry side slopes, straight channel with irregular geometry and Han river were performed for tests. As a result of this study, effectively applied marsh porosity method provide a reliable results for flow distribution of wet and dry area, it could be further developed to basis for extending to water quality and sediment transport analysis.
