Hazard analysis identifies probability to hazard occurrence and its potential impact on business processes operated in organizations. This paper illustrates a quantitative approach of hazard analysis of information systems by measuring the degree of hazard to information systems using probabilistic risk analysis and activity based costing technique. Specifically the research model projects probability of occurrence by PRA and economic loss by ABC under each identified hazard. To verify the model, each computerized subsystem which is called a business process and hazards occurred on information systems are gathered through one private organization. The loss impact of a hazard occurrence is produced by multiplying probability by the economic loss.
A Safety Case is an railway organization's formal arrangement, through the provision of policies, resources and processes, to ensure the safety of its work activity within safety management system. An effective system helps the organization to identify and manage risks effectively. It allows an organization to demonstrate its capability in achieving its safety objectives and in meeting regulatory requirements. The purpose of this research is to give how to the risk assessments are described within Railway Safety Cases can be prepared and maintained to meet the criteria specified by the upcoming railway regulations. Through this research, we propose the elements of safety management system that include arrangements for the ongoing identification of hazards, assessment of risks and the implementation of necessary control measures.
Railway signaling systems are so vital to ensure the safe operation of railroad and the assurance and demonstration of the safety is so important. The safety management process shall consist of a number of phases and activities, which are linked to form the safety life-cycle. The basic processes of safety management and safety activity throughout the lifecycle are 'risk analysis' and 'hazard control'. The safety managements and activities for the two kinds of aspects are implemented throughout the whole steps of system lifecycle. The risk analyses and hazard controls like those are needed, these activities have to be carried out through the whole of system lifecycle.

FMEA (failure mode and effect analysis)is a widely used technique to assess or to improve reliability of product not only at early stage of design and development, but at the process and service phase during the product life cycle. In designing a service system, this study proposes a fuzzy service FMEA with the service blueprints as a tool which describes customer actions, onstage contact employees actions, backstage contact employees actions, support processes, and physical evidences, in order to analyse and inform service delivery system design. We fuzzified only two risk factors, occurrence and severity, to more effectively assess the potential failure modes in service. Proposed fuzzy risk grades are applied to Gaussian membership function, defuzzified into Fuzzy Inference System, and eventually identified the ranks on the potential fail points.
This paper presents a set of typical pseudo-accident scenarios related to major equipments in petrochemical plants, which would be useful for performing such quantitative risk analysis techniques as fault tree analysis, event tree analysis, etc. These typical scenarios address what the main hazard of each equipment might be and how the accident might develop from an "initiating event". The proposed set of accident scenarios consists of total thirteen (13) scenarios specific for five (5) major equipments like reactor, distillation column, etc., and has been determined and screened out of one hundred and twenty-five (125) potential accident scenarios that were generated by performing semi-quantitative risk analysis practically for twenty-five (25) petrochemical processes, considering advices from the operation experts. It is assumed that with simple consideration or incorporation of plant-specific conditions only, the proposed accident scenarios could be easily reorganized or adapted for the relevant process with less time and labor by the safety engineers concerned in the petrochemical industries.ndustries.

Fuel costs represent one of the most substantial expenses for airlines, accounting for 20% - 36% of the airline's total operating cost. The present study discusses the so-called discretionary fuel that is additionally loaded at the discretion of airlines to cover unforeseen variations from the planned flight operations. The proper range of the discretionary fuel to be loaded for economic flight operations was estimated by applying Monte Carlo simulation technique. With this simulation model for loading discretionary fuel, airlines cannot only reduce the total amount of fuel to be consumed but also minimize the risk of unplanned flight disruptions caused by insufficient fuel on board. Airlines should be able to guarantee proper risk management processes for fuel boarding by carrying enough fuel to high-risk airports. This study would provide a practical guideline for loading proper amounts of discretionary fuel. Future researchers should be encouraged to improve this study by elaborating the weather variable.
Building on the growing literature on how physical bodily expressions influence psychological processes, the authors propose that exerting physical strength decreases risk perceptions and increases preference for risky options by increasing perceptions of control or agency. The present research is based on the belief of "no pain, no gain", that when an individual exerts physical strength and effort, he believes he can be the agent in bringing about the desired outcome. Because of this automatic association between exerting physical strength and the sense of being in control of the outcome, the authors hypothesize that even in situations where the outcome is determined by chance and luck, individuals exerting effort feel they have more control and thus choose riskier, but more desirable, options. Furthermore, this research clarifies the distinction between physical exertion of strength, high- and low-power poses, and psychological power.

'Sabine Pass Liquefaction Project (SPL Project)', a case study in this report, is the first construction project of a U.S. liquefaction facility for shale gas export overseas. This study analyzes the SPL Project to give understanding and a guideline to Korean EPC companies by benchmarking about effective risk-sharing strategies on EPC contracts. This study consists of three parts. The first summarizes the liquefaction process adopted on the SPL Project, named the 'ConocoPhillips Optimized Cascade Process', and compares it with other competitive liquefaction processes. The second introduces the unique features of the SPL EPC contract by comparing it with two other EPC forms of contracts: a FIDIC Silver Book for onshore plant projects and a contract of an offshore oil production (FPSO) project. The third focuses on the complexity of project financing (PF), especially lenders control and impact on the EPC contract such as covenant provisions to constrain variations and changes on the EPC Contract. From these conclusions, it is anticipated that this case study can provide a guideline for successful performance of Korean EPC contractors overseas.
Purpose - This article tackles risk communication issues and aims to address the characteristics of MERS risk information distribution in South Korea, and secondly to examine the communicative behavior of the public health authority in terms of the quality of communication strategies. Thirdly, the study attempts to figure out the risk communication to cope with MERS through the applications of SMCRE model in chronological order. We employ the social amplification of risk framework for analyzing the emergent public response as one of the main approaches. Research Design, Data and Methodology - The main framework of this study is theoretically based on the social amplification of risk, which describes signals about risk transmitted and processed by individuals and social groups. The model also reflects the interactions between social groups and institutes about disaster-related risk issues, which are potential amplifiers or attenuators of communication signals. S-M-C-R-E Model is methodologically employed to examine the social amplification for MERS risk information in each period, which we defined operationally. The proposed methodology allows the assessment of effectiveness and ineffectiveness on risk communication to be conceptualized as a countermeasure against disasters. The paper focuses on exploring how social risk amplification can be applied and organized in each stage. Results - The SMCRE model describes the exchange of risk information and is also applied to all forms of communication between stakeholders including public health authority, local government and media. Each factor of risk communication includes source, message, channel, receiver and effect. The results support that the effective risk communication involves not only the improved reliability of public health authority as a key factor of risk communication, but also a close cooperation and good collaboration with local governments. It does not seem to be possible that the government-initiated risk communication based on controllability and management cope effectively with infectious disease in early stage. The results of this study imply that the shared risks between local, regional and national authorities can enhance risk communication system. Conclusions - The study supports that the disparities in how disaster-related risk information is interpreted and coded, have made effective risk communication and public sense-making impeded. Our findings support a more communicative discussion about the role of risk information sharing between governments for the improvement of emergency management and underline the importance of social elements in the risk communication, such as relationship and trust building. Findings suggest that trust building between stakeholders could be added to help explain the processes of social amplification and attenuation of risk. It would be recommended that the continuous risk communication with all the involved stakeholders will be able to help national health promotion policy to be improved regarding emergency management. Furthermore, risk communication has to be a scientific approach for the communication pertaining to potentially sensitive or controversial situations with public concerns and low public trust.
The purpose of this paper is to review the occurrence, analytical methods and reduction methods of aflatoxins in foods. Aflatoxins are produced by the secondary metabolism of various fungal species and have the highest toxicity among mycotoxins. Due to their toxicity including carcinogenic activity, aflatoxins affect not only the health of humans ana animals but also the economics of agriculture and food. As a food-importing country, because aflatoxins could contaminate raw commodities and foodstuffs, there should be inspection on the exposure and the regulation of risk assessment as a food safety measure. In addition, studies on rapid analytical methods and reduction of toxicity by various processes for aflatoxins should be carried out in conjunction with those of the risk assessment of aflatoxins.
