The conventional non-isolated boost converter has some drawbacks such as poor dynamic performance and a discontinuous output current, which make it unsuitable for battery charging applications. In spite of its compactness and lightness, it is not preferred as a charger of portable electronic devices. In this paper, a non-isolated boost converter topology for Li-ion batteries suitable for fuel cell powered laptop computers is proposed and analyzed. The proposed converter has an additional inductor at the output to make a continuous output current. This feature makes it suitable for charger applications by eliminating the disadvantages of the conventional non-isolated boost converter mentioned above. A prototype of the proposed converter is built for the Li-ion battery charger of a laptop computer to prove the validity and advantages of the proposed topology.
In order to improve the output efficiency of solar cells and to extend the life span of batteries, the input currents of converters are required to be continuous. If low output voltage ripple is required at the same time, it is obvious that the application of basic two-order converters (such as Buck and Boost derived converters) will not be good enough. In this paper, a lot of non-isolated push-pull converters (NIPPCs) with continuous current will be introduced due to their lower current stress, higher efficiency and better EMC performance. By decomposing the converters into push-pull cells, inductor and free-wheeling diodes, two families of NIPPCs based on single inductor and coupled inductor separately are systematically generated. Furthermore, characteristics analyses for some of the generated converters are also shown in this paper. Finally, two prototypes based on the corresponding typical topologies are built in the lab to verify the theoretical outcomes.
This paper has introduces a novel Integrated On-board Charger (IOBC) to reduce the size, weight and cost of power conversion stages in Electric Vehicles (EVs). The IOBC is composed of an OBC and a low voltage dc-dc converter (LDC). The IOBC includes a bidirectional ac-dc converter and a bidirectional full-bridge converter with an active clamp circuit. The LDC converter is a hybrid topology combining an active clamped full-bridge converter and a forward converter derived from the Weinburg converter topology. Unlike conventional OBC, the proposed IOBC is compact and the LDC converter of it can achieve a higher efficiency. In addition, the LDC converter of the proposed IOBC can achieve high step-down voltage conversion ratio, no circulating current, no reverse recovery current of the rectifier diodes and small ripple current of output inductor on the auxiliary battery. A 1kW hardware of the LDC converter is implemented to verify the performances of the proposed IOBC.
A dual-input boost-buck converter with coupled inductors (DIBBC-CI) is proposed as a thermoelectric generator (TEG) power conditioner with a wide input voltage range. The DIBBC-CI is built by cascading two boost cells and a buck cell with shared inverse coupled filter inductors. Low current ripple on both sides of the TEG and the battery are achieved. Reduced size and power losses of the filter inductors are benefited from the DC magnetic flux cancellation in the inductor core, leading to high efficiency and high power density. The operational principle, impact of coupled inductors, and design considerations for the proposed converter are analyzed in detail. Distributed maximum power point tracking, battery charging, and output control are implemented using a competitive logic to ensure seamless switching among operational modes. Both the simulation and experimental results verify the feasibility of the proposed topology and control.
The failure rate of bidirectional dc-to-dc converter is predicted through the failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) and the fault-tree analysis (FTA) considering the operational risk. In order to increase the driving voltage of the electric vehicle efficiently, the bidirectional converter is attached to the front of the inverter. It has a boost mode for discharging battery power to the dc-link capacitor and a buck mode for charging the regenerative power to the battery. Based on the results of the FMEA considering the operating characteristics of the bidirectional converter, the fault-tree is designed considering the risk of the converter. After setting the design parameters for the MCU for the electric vehicle, we analyze the failure rate of the capacitor due to the output voltage ripple and the inductor component failure rate due to the inductor current ripple. In addition, we obtain the failure rate of major parts according to operating temperature using MIL-HDBK-217F. Finally, the failure rate and the mean time between failures (MTBF) of the converter are predicted by reflecting the part failure rate to the basic event of the fault-tree.

This paper proposes an efficient bi-directional DC/DC converter topology using multi-phase interleaved method for power storage system. The proposed converter topology is used for a power storage system using a vanadium redox flow battery(VRFB) and is configured to enable bidirectional power flow for charging and discharging of VRFB. Proposed DC/DC converter of the 4 leg method is reduced to 1/4 times the rating of the reactor and the power semiconductor device so can be reduce the system size. Also, proposed topology is obtained the effect of four times the switching frequency as compared to the conventional converter in each leg with a 90 degree phase shift 4 leg method. This can suppress the reduction of the life of the secondary battery because it is possible to reduce the current ripple in accordance with the charging and discharging of VRFB and may increase the efficiency of the entire system. In this paper, it proposed bidirectional high-efficiency DC/DC converter topology Using multi-phase interleaved method and proved the validity through simulations and experiments.

In the present industrial field, the demand for the development of the solar power source device and the charging device for the solar cell is gradually increasing. The solar charger is largely divided into a DC-DC converter that converts the voltage generated from the sunlight to a charging voltage, and a battery and a charger that are charged with an actual battery. The conventional charger topology is used either as a Buck converter or a Boost converter alone, which has the disadvantage that the battery can not always be charged to the desired maximum power as input and output conditions change. Although studies using a topology capable of boosting and stepping have been carried out, Buck-Boost converters or Sepic converters with relatively low efficiency have been used. In this paper, we propose a new Buck Boost combination power converter topology structure that can use Buck converter and Boost converter at the same time to improve inductor current ripple and power converter efficiency caused by wide voltage control range like solar charger.
In this paper presents a new model of dual-mode synchronous buck converter with dynamic control for mobile applications was proposed. The proposed circuit can operate at 2.5MHz with supply voltage 2.5V to 5V for low ripple and minimum inductor and capacitor size, which is suitable for single-cell lithium-ion battery supply mobile applications. For high efficiency, the proposed circuit adopts synchronous type and dynamic control. The proposed circuit is designed by using the device parameter of TSMC 0.18um BCD process and the performance is evaluated by Cadence spectre. Experimental board level results show the maximum conversion efficiency is 96% at 100mA load current.
Recently, efforts to maximize battery life in progress with an increase in the demand for portable devices. In this paper, we propose multi-phase buck converter with fast transient response. Multi-phase buck converter may be used for the output capacitor of small size because the ripple cancellation effect, it is possible to use an inductor having an inductance less. The portable device for quick change from standby mode to active 4-phase design structure was given a fast transient response. The proposed multi-phase buck converter was fabricated using a 0.18 um CMOS process and the supply voltage ranges from 2.7V to 3.3V, the maximum load current is 500mA and settling time is 10us.
The plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) are specialized hybrid electric vehicles that have the potential to obtain enough energy for average daily commuting from batteries. The PHEV battery would be recharged from the power grid at home or at work and would thus allow for a reduction in the overall fuel consumption. This paper proposes an integrated power electronics interface for PHEVs, which consists of a novel Eight-Switch Inverter (ESI) and an interleaved DC/DC converter, in order to reduce the cost, the mass and the size of the power electronics unit (PEU) with high performance at any operating mode. In the proposed configuration, a novel Eight-Switch Inverter (ESI) is able to function as a bidirectional single-phase AC/DC battery charger/ vehicle to grid (V2G) and to transfer electrical energy between the DC-link (connected to the battery) and the electric traction system as DC/AC inverter. In addition, a bidirectional-interleaved DC/DC converter with dual-loop controller is proposed for interfacing the ESI to a low-voltage battery pack in order to minimize the ripple of the battery current and to improve the efficiency of the DC system with lower inductor size. To validate the performance of the proposed configuration, the indirect field-oriented control (IFOC) based on particle swarm optimization (PSO) is proposed to optimize the efficiency of the AC drive system in PHEVs. The maximum efficiency of the motor is obtained by the evaluation of optimal rotor flux at any operating point, where the PSO is applied to evaluate the optimal flux. Moreover, an improved AC/DC controller based Proportional-Resonant Control (PRC) is proposed in order to reduce the THD of the input current in charger/V2G modes. The proposed configuration is analyzed and its performance is validated using simulated results obtained in MATLAB/ SIMULINK. Furthermore, it is experimentally validated with results obtained from the prototypes that have been developed and built in the laboratory based on TMS320F2808 DSP.
