Fine blanking can be considered as a manufacturing process capable of producing sheet metal parts with completely smooth edges that may be hardly obtained by conventional shear-cutting procedures. This fact, together with the considerable economic advantages offered by this process, has been responsible for the rapid acceptance of fine blanking throughout the manufacturing industry all over the world, and the discovery of many new applications. This study was performed to investigate the effect of clearance and V-ring shape on the quality of sheared surface in a fine blanking process. The critical value needed to apply the normalized Cockcroft-Latham fracture criterion to the simulation of fine blanking is obtained by correlating the result of finite element analysis and that of experiment for the uniaxial tensile test. From finite element analysis of an axisymmetric fine blanking process, it has been found that punch load, die-roll depth, burnish zone size and shape of sheared surface are considerably influenced by clearance and V-ring shape.
The assessment of shear wave velocity($V_s$) in soft soils is extremely difficult due to the soil disturbances during sampling and field access. After a ring type field $V_s$ probe(FVP) has been developed, it has been applied at the southern coastal area of the Korean peninsular. This study presents the upgraded FVP "blade type FVP", which minimizes soil disturbance during penetration. Design concerns of the blade type FVP include the tip shape, soil disturbance, transducers, protection of the cables, and the electromagnetic coupling between transducers and cables. The cross-talking between cables is removed by grouping and extra grounding of the cables. The shear wave velocity of the FVP is simply calculated by using the travel distance and the first arrival time. The large calibration chamber tests are carried out to investigate the disturbance effect due to the penetration of FVP blade and the validity of the shear waves measured by the FVP. The blade type FVP is tested in soils up to 30m in depth. The shear wave velocity is measured every 10cm. This study suggests that the upgraded blade type FVP may be an effective device for measuring the shear wave velocity with minimized soil disturbance in the field.
PTFE has good mechanical and chemical stability at wide temperature range, and more over, shows a low value of friction coefficient. On the other hand, it shows cold flow and high wear rate. However, these short comings can be overcome by adding various fillers. In this experiment, PTFE and polyimide powder were mixed into composite and its tribological characteristics was investigated. 100% polyimide was also tested for comparison. The countefface material was a stainless steel (SUS304). Friction and wear tester of ring-on-block type was used at room temperature and under atmosphere. After the wear test, the worn surfaces were examined by optical microscope. The test results show that PTFE-polyimide composite generates. the wear transfer film on both sides of the friction surfaces, and, the friction coefficient and the wear rates are relatively low. 100% polyimide generated little wear transfer films, showed high friction and wear rates, and also showed some problems of vibration and noise. It even damaged the stainless steel countefface. It was concluded that 100% polyimide does not generate transfer film well because its shear resistanbe is high and it stickslips, thus, friction coefficients and wear rates are high. In case of PTFE-polyimide composite, on the other hand, transfer film containing sufficient PTFE adheres and remains on both wear surfaces well enough because PTFE has low shear resistance. Polyimide particles in the composite were proved to be able to bear normal load and does not show stick-slip because they are covered with transfer film containing much PTFE.
The finite element analyses of mechanical rubber components are executed to predict the behavior of deformation and stress distribution in destgn step. The non-linear properties of rubber which are described as strain energy functions are important parameters to design and evaluate rubber components. These are determined by material tests which are tension, compression and shear test. The behaviors of loads-displacements of rubber components such as a roll tubber spring and resilient ring and additional spring for railway suspension system are evaluated by using commercial FEA code. It is shown that the results by FEA simulations are in close agreement with the test results.
The scope of this investigation is to evaluate the effect of joining parameters on the microstructural features and mechanical properties of dissimilar aluminum alloys, 1mm-thickness fixing AA6K31 at the top position and fixing AA5J32 at the bottom position. The friction stir lap welds were studied under various welding conditions, rotation speed of 1000, 1250, 1500rpm and welding speed of 100, 300, 500, 700mm/min, respectively. Mechanical test has been investigated in terms of tensile shear test and hardness test. The results showed that three type nugget shapes such as onion ring, zigzag type, hooking with the void, have been observed with revolutionary pitch. All welding conditions fractured at the HAZ of top plate, A6K31 and also the strength compare with base metal of lap joints were low efficiency, 52~63%. The thickness of fractured position was decreased with the lower heat input conditions. The relationships were excellent due to linear between the effective thickness of fractured position and peak load. The fractured position was the interface between joint area and not joint area. Also the strength efficiency compared with base metal was lower than decreasing rate of thickness because the hardness was decreased at fractured position due to softened material.

A serious of study is carried out to practical use of the three-slot cambered otter board improved by the authors. As the first step, we designed main plates, slots and accessories, such as holding plate, fan-shaped towing plate, normans, center ring, etc. Standing on this design, we made the simple cambered and three-slot cambered model otter board with accessories in a linear scale 6:1. and carried out model test to examine the efficiency of these boards. The obtained results can be summarized as follows: 1. On the simple cambered board with accessories, the values of the maximum shear coefficient($C _{LX}$ ). drag coefficient(($C _{D}$) and hydrodynamic efficiency($C _{L}$/$C _{D}$ ) are 1.39, 0.56, 2.48 at $22^{\circ}$ of the angle of stall respectively. 2. On the three-slot cambered board with accessories, $C _{LX}$/$C _{D}$ and $C _{I}$/$C _{D}$ are 1.67, 0.92, 1.82 at $32^{\circ}$ of the angle of stall respectively. 3.$C _{LX}$ of board with accessories is smaller 10~12% than that of only the main plate, and the angle of stall is almost same. 4. $C _{LX}$ and the angle of stall of the three-slot cambered board with accessories are greater 20% and $10^{\circ}$ than that of the simple cambered board respectively.

The speed change performance of transmissions has become a serious issue because of the increase in the inertia moment that has accompanied increases in engine output and transmission size. Therefore, it is necessary to develop better wear resistant friction materials. In this study, an appropriate sintered friction component for the synchronizer ring of a diesel manual transmission was developed, and its bonding characteristics were analyzed. That is, a process for bonding an Fe-based base material and Cu-based sintered friction material was developed. BSE and EDX analyses of this bonding layer were conducted, along with a shear strength test, to determine the bonding characteristics.
Using a customized diffusion bonder, we executed diffusion bonding for ring shaped white gold and red gold samples (inner, outer diameter, and thickness were 15.7, 18.7, and 3.0 mm, respectively) at a temperature of $780^{\circ}C$ and applied pressure of 2300 N in a vacuum of $5{\times}10^{-2}$ torr for 180 seconds. Optical microscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) were used to investigate the microstructure and compositional changes. The mechanical properties were confirmed by Vickers hardness and shear strength tests. Optical microscopy and FE-SEM confirmed the uniform bonding interface, which was without defects such as micro pores. EDS mapping analysis confirmed that each gold alloy was 14K with the intended composition; Ni and Cu was included as coloring metals in the white and red gold alloys, respectively. The effective diffusion coefficient was estimated based on EDS line scanning. Individual values of Ni and Cu were $5.0{\times}10^{-8}cm^2/s$ and $8.9{\times}10^{-8}cm^2/s$, respectively. These values were as large as those of the melting points due to the accelerated diffusion in this customized diffusion bonder. Vickers hardness results showed that the hardness values of white gold and red gold were 127.83 and 103.04, respectively, due to solid solution strengthening. In addition, the value at the interface indicated no formation of intermetallic compound around the bonding interface. From the shear strength test, the sample was found not to be destroyed at up to 100,000 gf due to the high bonding strength. Therefore, these results confirm the successful diffusion bonding of 14K white-red golds with a diffusion bonder at a low temperature of $780^{\circ}C$ and a short processing time of 180 seconds.

The focus of this investigation is to evaluate the effect of joining parameter on the microstructure and mechanical properties of welds produced by friction stir lap welding. The dissimilar Al alloys, KS5J32 and AA6K31, were joined by friction stir lap welding technique under several welding conditions, and KS5J32 alloy was placed on the top of AA6K31 alloy. The tool rotation speeds were 1000, 1250, and 1500rpm, and the welding speeds were 100, 300, 500, 700mm/min, respectively. The results showed that two shapes of nugget, such as onion ring and irregular vortex type, were observed with various revolutionary pitch. In all welding conditions, fracture occurred at the soften region of bottom sheet(AA6K31) and the strengths were 64~78% of those of base metal. Fractured positions were classified into three types : HAZ, triple point, void depending on the revolutionary pitch. The actual thickness of specimen at the fractured location was decreased with decreasing heat input. A linear relationship exists between the effective thickness of fractured position and peak load.
Epoxy resin has the disadvantage of being easily destroyed by instantaneous impact due to its high crosslinking density despite its high glass transition temperature (Tg) and excellent properties. To compensate for this, in this study, polyol was synthesized by ring opening polymerization of propylene glycol (PPG) diamine, Jeffamine D 2000 and propylene carbonate, and urethane modified epoxy was synthesized using this. The properties of the synthesized urethane modified epoxy were confirmed by FT-IR, H-NMR. To confirm the degree of improvement in impact resistance as an adhesive, a urethane modified epoxy adhesive was prepared by mixing a digylcidyl ether bisphenol A (DGEBA) with curing agent and curing accelerator. Properties test of urethane modified epoxy were shear strength, tensile strength and impact strength. As a result, excellent results were obtained in all test when the ratio of DGEBA : urethane modified epoxy was 8:2.
