On the analysis of delamination in multilayered inhomogeneous rods under torsion

  • The present paper is focused on analyzing the delamination of inhomogeneous multilayered rods of circular cross-section loaded in torsion. The rods are made of concentric longitudinal layers of individual thickness and material properties. A delamination crack is located arbitrary between layers. Thus, the internal and external crack arms have circular and ring-shaped cross-sections, respectively. The layers exhibit continuous material inhomogeneity in radial direction. Besides, the material has non-linear elastic behavior. The delamination is analyzed in terms of the strain energy release rate. General solution to the strain energy release rate is derived by considering the energy balance. The solution is applied to analyze the delamination of cantilever rod. For verification, the strain energy release rate is derived also by considering the complementary strain energy.

7175Al 대형 단조재의 미세조직과 파괴인성 (Microstructure and Fracture Toughness of 7175Al Heavy Forgings)

  • The 7175Al alloy is particularly interesting for its high strength and sufficient ductility, fracture toughness and corrosion resistance. Currently vigorous efforts have been made to develop large rockets usable for various purposes in the space. This has created the demand of big size of 7175Al billet which would be applied to heavy forgings. The aim of this study is to investigate the quality level of big billet and the effect of billet size on the mechanical properties of large 7175Al ring roll forgings. The billets range from 370 mm to 720 mm in diameter were homogenized and forged after direct chill casting. The size and volume fraction of second phase particles In ${\Phi}720$ mm billet are larger than those of ${\Phi}370$ mm billet, and its ductility is lower for the condition of homogenization and T6 treatment. The Cu-rich phases formed in interdendritic sites are considered to provide the preferential crack path during cold upsetting. The fracture toughness of ring roll forgings which are made by ${\Phi}370$ mm billet is higher than those of ${\Phi}720$ mm billet.

유리/다공성 알루미나의 접촉하중에 의한 기계적 거동 (Mechanical Behavior of Glass/Porous Alumina by Contact Loading)

  • Porous alumina with different porosities, 5.2 - 47.5%, were coated with cover-glass having a thickness of $160{\mu}m$, using epoxy adhesive. We investigated the effect of the porosity of the substrate layer on the crack initiation load, and the size of cracks propagated in the coating layer. Hertzian indentations were used to evaluate the damage behavior under a constrained loading condition. Typically, two types of cracks, ring cracks and radial cracks, were observed on the surface of the glass/porous alumina structure. Indentation stress-strain curves, crack initiation loads, crack propagation sizes, and flexural strengths were investigated as a function of porosities. The results indicated that a porosity of less than 30% and a higher substrate elastic modulus were beneficial at suppressing cracks occurrence and propagation. We expect lightweight mechanical components with high strength can be successfully fabricated by coating and controlling porosities in the substrate layer.

Cr-Mo 합금강의 후열처리 균열 감수성 평가 (Evaluation of PWHT cracking susceptibility of the Cr-Mo steel alloys)

  • 초기 응력부식균열에 대한 감수성 평가 시험법인 C링 시험법(C-ring Test)은 용접부의 후열처리 균열감수성을 평가하는 시험법으로 적합하다고 알려져 있다. C링 시험법은 실제 용접부 열영향부에 노치를 제작하여 잔류응력이 열영향부에 미치는 영향을 평가할 수 있다는 장점을 가지고 있다. 따라서 본 연구에는 C링 시험법을 이용하여 원자력 발전소 압력용기에 사용되는 Co-Mo강의 용접부 결함 발생 현상을 검토 하고자 Co-Mo강에 대하여 후열처리를 실시하였으며, C링 시험법을 통하여 용접 열영향부의 후열처리 균열을 평가하고자한다. 결론은 다음과 같다. 바나듐 모디파이 합금(AMAX 3Cr-1Mo­-0.1V, JSW 3Cr-­1Mo-­V-­Ti-­B 및 JSW $2\frac{1}{4}Cr$-1Mo-­V-­Ti-­B강)은 Berkeley $3Cr-1\frac{1}{2}Mo-\frac{1}{2}Ti$$2\frac{1}{4}Cr$-­1Mo합금강보다 후열처리 균열에 대한 감수성 보다 높게 나타났다. C-ring 시험에 있어서 바나듐 모디파이 합금은 2종의 후열처리조건과 3종의 응력조건에서 모두 균열을 나타냈으나 Berkeley $3Cr-1\frac{1}{2}Mo-\frac{1}{2}Ni$강과 Luken $2\frac{1}{4}Cr-1Mo0.1C$재료는 690MPa와 더 이상의 응력조건에서 2종의 후열처리를 실시하는 조건에서도 균열이 발생하지 않았다. C-ring 시험결과, 균열깊이는 바나듐 모디파이 재료인 경우, 낮은 후열처리온도와 비교해서 높은 후열처리온도인 경우가 감소하고 있다. C-ring 시험에 대한 SEM분석결과 균열은 오스테나이트 결정 입계를 따라 파괴되는 파괴양상을 나타내고 있으며 연성파면은 나타나지 않았다.

치과용 아말감의 파절에 관한 연구 (A STUDY ON THE FRACTURE OF DENTAL AMALGAM)

  • It was the purpose of this study to investigate the fracture mode of dental amalgam by observing the crack propagation, and to relate this to the microstructure of the amalgam. Caulk 20th Century Regular, Caulk Spherical, Dispersalloy, and Tytin amalgam alloys were used for this study. After each amalgam alloy and Hg measured exactly by the balance was triturated by the mechanical amalgamator (Capmaster, S.S. White), the triturated mass was inserted into the cylindrical metal mold which was 4 mm in diameter and 12 mm in height and was pressed by the Instron Universal Testing Machine at the speed of 1mm/min with 120Kg. The specimen removed from the mold was stored in the room temperature for a week. This specimen was polished with the emery papers from #100 to #200 and finally on the polishing cloth with 0.06${\mu}Al_2O_3$ powder suspended in water. The specimen was placed on the Instron testing machine in the method similar to the diametral tensile test and loaded at the crosshead speed of 0.05mm/min. The load was stopped short of fracture. The cracks on the polished surface of specimen was examined with scanning electron microscope (JSM-35) and analyzed by EPMA (Electron probe microanalyzer). The following results were obtained. 1. In low copper lathe-cut amalgam, the crack went through the voids and ${\gamma}_2$ phase, through the ${\gamma}_1$ phase around the ${\gamma}$ particles. 2. In low copper spherical amalgam, it was observed that the crack passed through the ${\gamma}_2$ and ${\gamma}_1$ phase, and through the boundary between the ${\gamma}_1$ and ${\gamma}$ phase. 3. In high copper dispersant (Dispersalloy) amalgam, the crack was found to propagate at the interface between the ${\gamma}_1$ matrix and reaction ring around the dispersant (Ag-Cu) particles, and to pass through the Ag-Sn particles. 4. In high copper single composition (Tytin) amalgam, the crack went through the ${\gamma}_1$ matrix between ${\eta}$ crystals, and through the unreacted alloy particle (core).

상수리나무와 자작나무 소재(素材)에 대한 Nitrocellulose Clear Lacquer 도막(塗膜)의 할열(割裂)에 관(關)한 연구(硏究) (Studies on the Cracking of Nitrocellulose Clear Lacquer Coasted Films on Solid Woods of Quercus acutissima and Betula platyphylla var. japonica)

  • This experiment was carried out to investigate the crack of coated Nitrocellulose Lacquer on flatand edge-grained boards of Quercus acutissima, ring-porous wood, and Betula platyphylla var. japonica, diffuse-porous wood, by variations of moisture contents at 7, 13 and 21%. Cold check system was used as an accelerating method for crack development, in which one cycle of the system consisted of 10 replications of each unit cycle, $60^{\circ}C$ for 4hr followdd by $-20^{\circ}C$ for 4hr. The analysis of Nitrocellulose Lacquer characteristics was made by means of water permeation measurement, F.T.I.R. spectroscopy, N.M.R. spectroscopy, gel permeation chromatography, gas chromatography, and D.S.C. The results obtained were as follows: 1. The number of cracks increased with the increasing moisture content of board. 2. The crack of coated film on flat-grained board was fewer in number than on edge-grained board. 3. The crack occurred in Quercus acutissima was more numerous on edge-grained board but less frequent on flat-grained board compared with that in Betula platyphylla var. japonica, respectively. 4. The cold crack vertically developed to the grain both in Quercus acutissima and Betula platyphylla var. japonica. 5. Water permeability in intermediate coated film was lower than in under and top coated film, but the difference was not confirmed between under and top coated film.

LNG 저장탱크 벽체의 동절기 온도균열제어 방안 (The Method of Thermal Crack Control about the LNG Tank Wall in Winter)

  • 1998년 인천 LNG 인수기지에 국내 최초로 14만kl의 지하식 저장탱크가 건설되는 것을 시작으로 20만kl의 지하식 저장탱크가 연이어 건설되었다. 또한, 평택 및 통영 LNG 인수기지에 14만kl 및 20만kl의 지상식 저장탱크가 건설되고 있다. 저장탱크의 용량 및 방식에 따라 저장탱크의 설계단면이 변화하였으며, 콘크리트에 요구되는 특성 또한 변화하였다. 특히, 수화열에 의한 온도균열 발생 확률이 높은 Bottom 및 하부벽체는 4종 저열포틀랜드시멘트가 적용되고 있다. 20만kl 용량인 지상탱크 평택 16호기 상부벽체에 대한 동절기 온도균열제어를 위해 양생방법, 타설간격조절 및 배합변경에 따른 수화열 해석을 실시하였다. 기존 1종+FA25%인 배합을 적용시 목표균열지수를 만족하기 위해서는 보온양생 및 타설간격 증가 등 시공적 대책이 필요하며, 배합을 4종+FA15%로 변경시에는 추가적인 시공대책 없이 온도균열 제어가 가능한 것으로 나타났다.

초고성능 섬유보강 콘크리트(UHPFRC)의 재료 특성 및 예측모델: (II) 구속 수축 특성 평가 및 구속도 예측 (Properties and Prediction Model for Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete (UHPFRC): (II) Evaluation of Restrained Shrinkage Characteristics and Prediction of Degree of Restraint)

  • 본 연구에서는 초고성능 섬유보강 콘크리트(Ultra High Performance Fiber Reinforced Concrete, UHPFRC)의 구속 상태에서의 수축 거동을 평가하고자 국내 외에서 가장 보편적으로 사용되는 링-테스트(ring-test)를 이용하여 구속 수축 실험을 수행하였다. 특히, 다양한 구속도에서의 수축 거동을 평가하기 위하여 내부 강재 링의 두께와 내부 반경을 달리하여 실험을 수행하였으며, 자유 수축과 인장강도 실험을 수반하여 구속도 및 응력 이완, 수축 균열 가능성 등을 복합적으로 평가하였다. 실험 결과 내부 링의 두께가 증가할수록 내부 링의 평균 변형률과 잔류 인장응력은 감소하였으며, 반면에 구속도는 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 내부 링의 반경에 따라서는 변형률 및 잔류 인장응력, 구속도의 차이가 거의 없는 것으로 나타났다. 모든 시험체에서 잔류 인장응력이 인장강도에 비해 작은 것으로 나타났으며, 수축 균열은 발생하지 않았다. 지속적으로 작용하는 계면 구속 하중에 의해 탄성 수축 응력의 약 39~65%가 이완되는 것으로 나타났으며, 최대 이완 응력은 내부 링의 두께가 두꺼울수록 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 마지막으로 본 연구에서는 비선형 회귀분석을 수행하여 재령에 따라 변하는 구속도를 예측하였으며, 실험 결과와 잘 일치하는 것으로 나타났다.

가속노화조건 하 연료접촉 고무오링의 수명예측 및 누유시험 연구 (A Study on the Lifetime Estimation and Leakage Test of Rubber O-ring in Contacted with Fuel at Accelerated Thermal Aging Conditions)

  • As rubber products such as O-rings, which are also known as packings or toric joints, come in regular, long term contact with liquid fuel, they can eventually swell, become mechanically weakened, and occasionally crack; this diminishes both their usefulness and intrinsic lifetime and could cause leaks during the steady-state flow condition of the fuel. In this study, we evaluate the lifetime of such products through compression set tests of FKM, a family of fluorocarbon elastomer materials defined by the ASTM international standard D141; these materials have great compression, sunlight, and ozone resistance as well as a low gas absorption rate. In this process, O-rings are immersed in the liquid fuel of airtight containers that can be expressed as a compression set, and the liquid fuel leakage in a flow rig tester at variable temperatures over 12 months is investigated. Using the Power Law model, our study determined a theoretical O-ring lifetime of 2,647 years, i.e. a semi-permanent lifespan, by confirming the absence of liquid fuel leakage around the O-ring assembled fittings. These results indicate that the FKM O-rings are significantly compatible for fuel tests to evaluate long-term sealing conditions.

음향방출법을 이용한 치아/복합레진 수복재의 계면부 파괴해석 (Interfacial fracture analysis of human tooth/composite resin restoration using acoustic emission)

  • 치아의 와동에 수복된 치과용 복합레진을 광(LED) 조사를 통해 경화 수축시키면서 음향방출(acoustic emission, AE)법을 이용하여 와동 벽면과 복합레진 사이의 계면상태를 실시간 해석하였다. 복합레진의 중합 수축에 의해 AE 신호들이 검출되었는데 계면 접착 상태가 나쁜 경우, 경화 수축률이 큰 초기 1분 동안 많은 AE 사상들이 관측되었으며, 이들 AE는 주파수범위가 주로 100-200kHz인 돌발형이었다. 인간치아 재질의 시편에서 발생된 AE 사상수는 스테인리스 스틸 시편보다 적었으나, PMMA 시편보다는 많았고 접착제의 도포 상태가 양호할수록 검출되는 AE 사상수는 적었다. AE 파라미터의 특성은 복합레진과 링재 사이의 접착부에서 발생하는 인장형 균열전파 및 복합레진의 수축에 따른 링재의 압축거동과 관련되었으며, 음향방출법이 치아 수복물의 접착성에 대한 비파괴 검사법으로써 유효함을 알았다.
