A coffee-ring effect is from capillary flow by different evaporation rate across the droplet. The capillary flow tends particles to accumulate at the edges of the droplet and makes the ring-shaped stain pattern. These coffee-ring formation and suppression of coffee-ring have been a critical role in printing and coating technologies. In this study, we present the experimental study on coffee-ring effect of silver nanowire inside the evaporating sessile droplet. Size and concentration effect of nanowires at coffee-ring effect has been investigated. From the coffee-ring, we observed the regimes of connected rings and disconnected ones and measure the resistivity of single ring pattern with different nanowire length.

This paper investigates a variable geometry (VG) mixed flow turbine with a novel, purposely designed pivoting nozzle vane ring. The nozzle vane ring was matched to the 3-dimensional aspect of the mixed flow rotor leading edge with lean stacking. It was found that for a nozzle vane ring in a volute, the vane surface pressure is highly affected by the flow in the volute rather than the adjacent vane surface interactions, especially at closer nozzle positions. The performance of the VG mixed flow turbine has been evaluated experimentally in steady and unsteady flow conditions. The VG mixed flow turbine shows higher peak efficiency and swallowing capacity at various vane angle settings compared to an equivalent nozzleless turbine. Comparison with an equivalent straight vane arrangement shows a higher swallowing capacity but similar efficiencies. The VG turbine unsteady performance was found to deviate substantially from the quasi-steady assumption compared to a nozzleless turbine. This is more evident in the higher vane angle settings (smaller nozzle passage), where there are high possibility of choking during a pulse cycle. The presented steady and unsteady results are expected to be beneficial in the design of variable geometry turbochargers, especially the ones with a mixed flow turbine.

In the ring loading problem with demand splitting, traffic demands are given for each pall of nodes in an undirected ring network and a flow is routed in either of the two directions, clockwise and counter-clockwise. The load of a link is the sum of the flows routed through the link and the objective of the problem is to minimize the maximum load on the ring. The fastest a1gorithm to date is Myung, Kim and Tcha's a1gorithm that runs in Ο(n|K|) time where n is the number of nodes and K is the index set of the origin-destination pairs of nodes having flow traffic demands. Here we develop an a1gorithm for the ring loading problem with demand splitting that improves the rerouting step of Myung, Kim and Tcha's a1gorithm arid runs in Ο(min{n|K|, n$^2$}) time.
The flow and acoustic fields due to a vortex ring interaction with a rigid sphere are simulated numerically. The flow field is regarded as three-dimensional inviscid and incompressible. The vorticity is assumed to be concentrated inside the finite core of vortex filament. The vortex filament curve, described by parabolic blending curve function, is used to effectively solve the modified Biot-Savart equation. The interaction between a vortex ring and a rigid sphere using the parabolic blending curve is calculated. The trajectory of the vortex ring is obtained with several different initial positions between the ring and the sphere. The force variations acting on the sphere are calculated by using the boundary integral method. Finally, we can also obtain the acoustic signals at the far field observation positions from the force variations acting on the rigid surface. We can find that the dipole axis of the directivity patterns are rotated during the interacting phenomena.
In the present work, flow analysis has been performed for side channel type double stage ring blower by solving three-dimensional Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equation. Shear stress transport model is used as turbulent closure. The commercial CFD code CFX 11.0 is used for the calculations. Each of two stage is calculated separately and the second stage inlet flow is same as the first stage outlet flow so that consecutive calculation is possible. Velocity and pressure fields have been analyzed at the midplane between blades. The numerical results are validated with experimental data for head coefficients at different flow coefficients.

The flow around a circular cylinder was controlled by attaching O-rings to reduce drag force acting on the cylinder. Four experimental models were tested in this study; one smooth cylinder of diameter D (D=60mm) and three cylinders fitted with O-rings of diameters d=0.0167D, 0.05D and 0.067D with pitches of PPD=1D, 0.5D and 0.25D. The drag force, mean velocity and turbulent intensity profiles in the near wake behind the cylinders were measured for Reynolds numbers based on the cylinder diameter in the range of $Re_D=7.8{\times}10^3{\sim}1.2{\times}10^5$. At $Re_D=1.2{\times}10^5$, the cylinder fitted with O-rings of d=0.0167D in a pitch interval of 0.25D shows the maximum drag reduction of about 5.4%, compared with the smooth cylinder. The drag reduction effect of O-rings of d=0.067D is not so high. For O-ring circulars, as the Reynolds number increases, the peak location of turbulence intensity shifts downstream and the peak magnitude is decreased. Flow field around the cylinders was visualized using a smoke-wire technique to see the flow structure qualitatively. The size of vortices and vortex formation region formed behind the O-ring cylinders are smaller, compared with the smooth cylinder.

Though a micro pump is a crucial element in miniaturized bio-fluidic systems or drug delivery systems, it has some intrinsic disadvantages such as backward flow, pulsation of flow, low repeatability and producibility, and high cost. To overcome these limitation, a PZT disc actuated micro pump including a novel ring-shaped multi-flap check valve is introduced. To enhance the performance of the micro pump, the static behaviour of flap valve module and the micro fluidic behavior of fluids are numerically modelled and analyzed. As results of the numerical analysis, the optimal dimension and configuration of the ring-shaped multi flap valve are $1{\times}0.05$ mm and 2 (inlet side)${\times}1$ (outlet side) type. The obtained maximum flow rates and flow resolution are about 90 ml/min and 30 ${\mu}l$/stroke respectively.
Numerical analysis is performed to find flow and heat transfer characteristics for ring type heat exchanger. 3-D numerical predictions are carried out for the ring type heat exchanger system with Reynolds number varying in the range of 1,000 and 10,000. From the prediction, streamwise velocity, pressure drop, flow rate and heat transfer coefficient are analyzed. It is also found that characteristics of pressure drop and heat transfer generally follow well proportional variations of Re$m^$for the wide range of Reynolds number considered in this study.
