This study proposes a rigid-body tracking based virtual avatar application method to increase the social presence and provide various experiences of virtual reality(VR) users in an immersive virtual environment. The proposed method estimates the motion of a virtual avatar through inverse kinematics based on real-time rigid-body tracking based on motion capture using markers. Through this, it aims to design a highly immersive virtual environment with simple object manipulation in the real world. Science experiment educational contents are produced to experiment and analyze applications related to immersive virtual environments through virtual avatars. In addition, audiovisual education, full-body tracking, and the proposed rigid-body tracking method were compared and analyzed through survey. In the proposed virtual environment, participants wore VR HMDs and conducted a survey to confirm immersion and educational effects from virtual avatars performing experimental educational actions from estimated motions. As a result, through the method of utilizing virtual avatars based on rigid-body tracking, it was possible to induce higher immersion and educational effects than traditional audiovisual education. In addition, it was confirmed that a sufficiently positive experience can be provided without much work for full-body tracking.

This paper proposed the robot vision control method to track a moving rigid body target using the vision system model that can actively control camera parameters even if the relative position between the camera and the robot and the focal length and posture of the camera change. The proposed robotic vision control scheme uses a batch method that uses all the vision data acquired from each moving point of the robot. To process all acquired data, this robot vision control scheme is divided into two cases. One is to give an equal weight for all acquired data, the other is to give weighting for the recent data acquired near the target. Finally, using the two proposed robot vision control schemes, experiments were performed to estimate the positions of a moving rigid body target whose spatial positions are unknown but only the vision data values are known. The efficiency of each control scheme is evaluated by comparing the accuracy through the experimental results of each control scheme.

An adaptive tracking controller is presented for the vibration reduction of flexible manipulator employed in hazardous area by combining input shaping technique with sliding-mode control. The combined approach appears to be robust in the presence of severe disturbance and unknown parameter which will be estimated by least-square method in real time. In a maneuver strategy, it is found that a hybrid trajectory with a combination of low frequency mode and rigid-body mode results in better performance and is more efficient than the traditional rigid body trajectory alone which many researchers have employed. The feasibility of the adaptive tracking control approach is demonstrated by applying it to the simplified model of robot system. For the applications of the proposed technique to realistic systems, several requirements are discussed such as control stability and large system order resulted from finite element modeling.

In this paper, we propose a rigid body tracking method in 3D space using 2D passive marker images from multiple motion capture cameras. First, a calibration process using a chess board is performed to obtain the internal variables of individual cameras, and in the second calibration process, the triangular structure with three markers is moved so that all cameras can observe it, and then the accumulated data for each frame is calculated. Correction and update of relative position information between cameras. After that, the three-dimensional coordinates of the three markers were restored through the process of converting the coordinate system of each camera into the 3D world coordinate system, the distance between each marker was calculated, and the difference with the actual distance was compared. As a result, an error within an average of 2mm was measured.

An effective algorithm for tracking rigid or non-rigid moving object(s) which segments local moving parts from image sequence in the presence of backgraound motion by camera movenment, predicts the direction of it, and tracks the object is proposed. It requires no camera calibration and no knowledge of the installed position of camera. In order to segment the moving object, feature points configuring the shape of moving object are firstly selected, feature flow field composed of motion vectors of the feature points is computed, and moving object(s) is (are) segmented by clustering the feature flow field in the multi-dimensional feature space. Also, we propose IRMAS, an efficient algorithm that finds the convex hull in order to cinstruct the shape of moving object(s) from clustered feature points. And, for the purpose of robjst tracking the objects whose movement characteristics bring about the abrupt change of moving trajectory, an improved order adaptive lattice structured linear predictor is used.

Recently, as the demand for the mobile platform market in the virtual/augmented/mixed reality field is increasing, experiential content that gives users a real-world felt through a virtual environment is drawing attention. In this paper, as a method of tracking a tracker for user location estimation in a virtual space movement platform for motion capture of trainees, we present a method of estimating 3D coordinates of the 3D cross covariance through the coordinates of the markers projected on the image. In addition, the validity of the proposed algorithm is verified through rigid body tracking experiments.
In the time-invarient system, the adaptive controller was designed for the non-tracking error in the 1980's. In this study, the Model Reference Adaptive Control using on-line processing method is used to identify the coefficients of the model, and the Robust Controller (H.inf.) is designed to stabilize the rigid body and the flexible body of satellite, which can be perturbed due to disturbance, etc. The result obtained by H.inf. controller is compared with that of the PI(Proportional and Intergation) controller which is commonly used for stabilizing satellite.

Vibration characteristics of the feeding system in a CD-ROM drive are identified by a theoretical modeling as well as vibration experiments. For this purpose, we establish a vibration model due to the rigid-body motion and perform the modal testings using the impact hammer and shaker. The analysis and experiments show that the feeding system has three rigid-body vibration modes in the low-frequency region and two of them come from the tilting modes. In order to remove the harmful tilting modes for the tracking servo control, a methodology to find the optimal positions of the dampers is also proposed in this study.

In designing the tracking system of an optical disc drive, it is first necessary to eliminate the undesired influence of any visible mechanical vibrations. In this paper a geometrical method to analyze the frequency response of an elastically supported planar rigid body has been presented. Using the theory of screw, a geometrical expression of a compliant transfer function which describes the effects of the locations of an applied force and observation on the response has been derived. Applying the substructure synthesis method, a technique to stabilize the tracking mechanical system has been presented with a numerical example.

A stereoscopic particle tracking velocimetry (SPTV) technique based on the 2-frame hybrid particle tracking velocimetry (PTV) method was developed. The expansion of 2D PTV to SPTV is facilitated by the fact that the PTV method tracks individual particle centroids. To evaluate the performance and measurement accuracy of the present SPTV technique, it was applied to flow images of rigid body translation and synthetic standard images of jet shear flow and impinging jet flow. The data processing routine and measurement uncertainty of the SPTV technique are compared with those of conventional stereoscopic particle image velecimet.y (SPBV). In addition, the centroid translation effect of 2D particle image velocimetry (PIV) is defined and its effect on SPIV measurements is discussed. Compared to the SPIV method, the SPTV technique has inherited merits of concise and precise velocity evaluation procedures and provides better spatial resolution and measurement accuracy.
