Effects of No-tillage Dry-seeding on Rice Growth and Soil Hardness

  • No-tillage dry-seeding of rice can offer potential benefits by reducing time and labor cost compared with conventional tillage practices. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of no-tillage dry-seeding on rice growth and soil hardness in comparison with other rice cultivation methods, machine transplanting and wet-hill-seeding on puddled paddy. The seedling stand fell within optimum range for both no-till dry-seeding and wet-hill-seeding on puddled paddy. Plant height, number of tillers and SPAD values in no-tillage dry-seeding cultivation were higher than those observed in other methods. There were no significant differences in grain yield of rice among three cultivation methods. The quality characteristics of milled rice grown in no-tillage dry-seeding were similar to those grown in other cultivation methods. Soil hardness in top 10 cm depth was significantly higher in no-tillage dry-seeding than other cultivation methods, while soil hardness below 10 cm depth was highest in machine transplanting cultivation. Results indicate that no-tillage dry-seeding practice is comparable to conventional tillage system in terms of seedling establishment, growth, yield and grain quality.

철분코팅 볍씨를 이용한 벼 직파재배의 생육 특성 및 수량 (Growth and Yield in Direct Seeded Rice Cultivation with Iron Coated-Seeds)

  • 벼 직파재배 유형(담수산파, 무논점파) 및 사용 종자별 생육특성 및 수량 비교 시험 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. ① 출아일수는 9~11일이 소요되었고, 싹튼 볍씨 사용이 철분코팅볍씨 사용 직파보다 1~2일이 빨랐으며, m2당 입모 수는 103~147개로 담수산파의 철분코팅볍씨 사용에서 가장 많았으나, 벼 직파방법 간에 통계적 유의성은 없었다. 결주율(무논점파)은 2.7~3.7%이었다. ② 초장생육에서 직파는 기계이앙 보다는 짧았고, 벼 직파방법 간에는 담수산파가 무논점파보다 파종 후 60일까지는 길었으나, 파종 후 75일 이후는 비슷하였다. 사용 종자 간에는 철분코팅볍씨 사용이 싹튼 볍씨 사용보다 길었고, 담수산파에서는 통계적 유의성도 있었다. ③ m2당 경수는 6월 17일(파종후 30일)에는 기계이앙이, 파종 후 45일과 60일에는 담수산파의 철분코팅볍씨 사용에서 가장 많았고, 파종 후 75일과 90일 m2당 경수는 352~405개로 벼 재배방법 간에 통계적으로 유의한 차이는 없었다. ④ 출수기는 직파에서 8월 21~23일로 기계이앙(8월 13일)보다는 8~10일이 늦었고, 직파방법 간에는 차이가 없었으나, 사용종자 간에는 철분코팅 볍씨 사용이 싹튼 볍씨 사용보다 2일이 빨랐다. ⑤ 성숙기 벼 생육특성에서 간장은 기계이앙(72.4cm)보다 철분코팅볍씨 사용 담수산파 및 무논점파는 통계적으로 각각 유의하게 길고 짧았으며, 수장은 무논점파의 싹튼 볍씨 사용(24.3cm)에서 가장 길었고, 담수산파 및 기계이앙과 통계적 유의성이 있었다. 벼 직파방법별 사용종자 간에는 수장은 별 차이가 없었다. m2당 수수는 357~407개로 담수산파의 철분코팅볍씨 사용에서 가장 많았으나 벼 재배방법별로 통계적 유의성은 없었다. 수당입수는 102~106개로 거의 같았다. ⑥ 수량구성요소는 m2당 입수는 37,105~42,450개, 현미천립중은 21.9~22.8g으로 담수산파의 철분코팅볍씨 사용에서 가장 많았고 무거웠다. 등숙비율은 77.6~86.3%으로 무논점파의 철분코팅볍씨 사용에서 가장 높았으나, 수량구성요소 모두 벼 재배방법 간에 통계적 유의성은 없었다. ⑦ 쌀 수량은 10a당 568~686kg으로 담수산파의 철분코팅 볍씨 사용(686kg/10a)에서 가장 높았으며 기계이앙 및 그 외 직파방법과 통계적 유의성도 있었다. 그 외 직파방법은 기계이앙(568kg/10a) 대비 3~7% 높았으나, 통계적 유의성은 없었다. ⑧ 잎도열병은 벼 생육초기 기계이앙과 담수산파에서 약간 발병하였고, 잎집무늬마름병과 이삭누룩병은 기계이앙>무논점파≥담수산파 순으로 심하였다. ⑨ 잡초는 담수산파의 싹튼 볍씨 사용에서 발생이 심했고, 8월 16일 이후는 벼 재배방법 다같이 후발피가 발생하였다. 잡초성벼는 기계이앙은 발생되지 않았으나, 싹튼 볍씨 사용 직파는 0.6~0.7%, 철분코팅볍씨 사용 직파는 0.1%정도 발생하였다.

DEA를 활용한 중국 벼 직파농가의 경영효율성 분석 (An Analysis of the Management Efficiency for the Rice seeding Farmer in China Using DEA Model)

  • In recent years, the development of rice industry has been highly valued by the state. In hubei area, due to the development of the modernization and the shortage of labor, traditional way of rice cultivation methods is facing serious challenges, and economic benefits have become the decisive factor for the effective promotion and application of rice cultivation methods. According to the research results, first, in the input-side analysis, in the CCR model, D5, D12, D26, D28, D32, D36 farmers with high efficiency appear. The analysis result shows that among the 60 farmers, the average efficiency is 89%, and there is an inefficiency of 11%. In the BCC model, 14 farmers were identified as high-efficiency farmers, with an average efficiency of 0.9453. Second, in direct seeding cultivation of rice, the average scale efficiency is 0.9227, while the average pure technical efficiency is 0.9644. This shows that the effect of scale efficiency is greater than that of purely technical factors, ignoring the reasons for the low operational efficiency of direct seeding cultivation farmers. It can be predicted that with the further deepening of farmers' understanding of this planting mode, the proportion of rice direct seeding may be further expanded in the future. Relevant agricultural departments should further promote this technology to farmers, study the direct seeding technology using scientific methods, and evaluate the changes of this cultivation mode. The agricultural departments of government should concern about the climate risk assessment of direct seeding rice, the environmental impact assessment caused by the extensive use of herbicides, the application of mechanical technology in the process of direct seeding, the lodging of direct seeding rice, and other related issues.

Comparative analysis of growth, yields and grain quality of rice among no-tillage dry-seeding, wet-hill-seeding and transplanting

  • No-tillage practices are expected to provide several benefits such as increasing soil organic matter, reducing labor time and saving energy cost compared with conventional tillage practices. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of no-tillage dry-seeding on rice growth and soil properties in comparison with other rice cultivation methods, machine transplanting and wet-hill-seeding on puddled paddy. Rice seedling establishment was slightly higher in no-tillage dry-seeding treatment ($145seedling\;m^{-2}$) than wet-hill-seeding on puddled paddy treatment ($111seedling\;m^{-2}$), but the seedling establishment in both treatments fell within the optimum range for direct seeding rice cultivation. Plant height, number of tillers and chlorophyll content (SPAD value) of rice in no-tillage dry-seeding treatment were higher than those of the other treatments. However, no significant differences in grain yield was observed among three cultivation methods, and the yield ranged 5.8 to $5.9ton\;ha^{-1}$. The heading date from seeding under no-tillage dry-seeding treatment was on average 109 days, which was similar to that under machine transplanting treatment (112 days), but 10 days later than that under wet-hill-seeding on puddled paddy treatment (99 days). Grain quality characteristics grown in no-tillage dry-seeding were similar to those grown in the other cultivation methods. These results indicate that no-tillage dry-seeding practice is comparable to conventional tillage system in terms of seedling establishment, growth, yields and grain quality.

벼 직파 유형별 생육 및 수량 비교 연구 (Comparison of Rice Growth and Yield in Different Direct Seeding Methods)

  • 벼 직파재배 유형별(철분 무논점파, 복토 무논점파, 철분 담수산파, 기계이앙-대조구) 생육 및 수량 비교를 위한 포장시험 결과는 다음과 같았다. ① 벼 직파재배 유형별 출아일수는 8~9일 소요되었으며, m2당 입모수는 철분 무논점파>복토 무논점파>철분 담수산파>관행 담수산파 순으로 많았다. 결주율은 복토 무논점파 2.7%, 철분 무논점파 2.0%로 비교적 낮게 나타났다. ② 주요 벼 생육시기별 초장 생육은 무논점파법이 담수산파에 비하여 생육초기 초장이 다소 높게 경과되었으나 파종 후 75일에는 관행 담수산파를 제외한 벼 재배방법에서 통계적 유의성 차이가 인정되지 않았다. ③ 벼 경수 생육은 철분 담수산파에서 가장 높게 경과되었으며 철분 무논점파, 관행 담수산파, 복토 무논점파, 기계이앙 순이었다. ④ 벼 수량구성요소에서 m2당 수수는 철분 담수산파>철분 무논점파>관행 담수산파>복토 무논점파>기계이앙 순으로 많게 나타났다. ⑤ 벼 직파재배 유형별 쌀 수량은 철분 담수산파 640kg/10a, 철분 무논점파 619kg/10a, 기계이앙 601kg/10a, 관행 담수산파 599kg/10a, 복토 무논점파 544kg/10a 순으로 높게 나타났다. ⑥ 현미품위는 완전립 비율이 복토 무논점파 65.8%, 철분 담수산파 65.4%, 철분 무논점파 62.7%, 기계이앙 62.3%, 관행 담수산파 62.2% 순으로 높았다.

  • History , achievement and future of direct-wet-rice-seeding technique in Korea and problems encountered in on-farming research were introduced. Some farmers are very eager to lower production cost and save labor. Their effort results in several direct-wet-seeding methods and seeding machines. The design problems and improvement points related to the direct -wet-rice-seeding machines were drawn out of field test.

벼농사 복토직파기 개발 연구 (Development of a Direct Seeder with Soil Application for a Stable Direct Seeding in Rice Cultivation)

  • This research was performed to develope a stable direct seeding method in rice cultivation using by a direct seeder with soil application. A principle of this methodology was introduced from seeding nursery system of machine transplanting enable to increase high seeding establishment direct seeding method with soil application was high of 89-95% while that of water seeding was 68%. During seeding growth plant height was ralatively small but seeding health was high. A total soil consumption of this methodology was 145kg/10a in dirll seeding and 26kg/10a in hill seeding respectively, there was 100% erected in direct seeding with soil application while water seeding was 45% in erected seeding stand. In direct seeding method with soil application total carbohydrate content was higher than that of water seeding. This machine was manufactured to attach and/or detach to a machine transplanter with riding type and machine cultivator with multipurpose. In the farmer's demonstrated rice field this method was well performed like machine transplanting in terms of rice growth and development. There was highly cost reduction for rice production like other direct seeding methods.

Effects of Ditching on Seedling Stand in Wet Direct Seeding Rice Culture

  • In order to develop more stable seedling stand method in wet direct rice seeding culture, the effect of making the drainage ditches was studied in both methods of broadcast seeding on floody paddy surface and puddled-soil drill seeding. In a broadcast seeding on floody paddy surface, the ditching after seeding using a tractor or small ditch maker improved the seedling stand, and reduced the floating seedling and herbicide injury by accelerating the drainage. Suitable ditching time was at 2 days after seeding (DAS) for the tractor and at 3 DAS for the ditch maker. In the puddled-soil drill rice seeding culture, the ditching before seeding with a ditch maker at 3 days after draining effectively improved the seedling stand due to quick draining through well formed the seeding furrows. In the puddled-soil drill seeding, seedling stand number showed higher in both ditching plots synchronized with seeding compared with both only draining treatment at 1 DAS without ditching and the flooding plot condition for 6 DAS. And the suitable ditching depth was 6 cm, as considered the ditching status and drained status. These results suggest that the ditching in wet direct rice seeding is an resonable practice for improving the seedling stand through the accelerating drainage of field.

사료작물 후작 벼 직파 방법별 생육 및 수량 비교 (Comparison of Rice Growth and Yield in Different Direct Seeding Methods Following by Italian Ryegrass Harvest)

  • 철분코팅볍씨 사용 담수산파와 무논점파, 싹튼 볍씨 사용 복토 무논점파의 생육 및 수량 비교(기계이앙-대조구)를 위한 포장시험 결과는 다음과 같았다. 벼 직파재배 방법별 출아일수는 7 ~ 8일 소요되었으며, m2당 입모수는 109 ~ 167개로 무논점파(철분) > 담수산파(철분) > 무논점파(복토) 순으로 많았다. 무논점파 결주율은 1.2 ~ 2.3%로 기계이앙 1.7%와 거의 비슷하였다. 벼 초장은 기계이앙에 비하여 담수산파(철분)와 무논점파(복토)는 파종 후 30일, 무논 점파(철분)는 파종 후 45일까지 유의하게 짧았으나, 이후 점차 차이가 적어져 파종 후 63일에는 거의 비슷하였다. 벼 직파방법 간에는 싹튼볍씨를 사용한 무논점파(복토)에서 초장이 약간 길었으나 통계적으로 유의차는 없었다. 벼 경수는 기계이앙에 비하여 담수산파(철분)와 무논점파(복토)는 많았고, 철분코팅볍씨 사용 무논점파는 적었다. 벼 직파방법별로는 담수산파(철분) > 무논점파(복토) > 무논점파(철분) 순으로 많았다. 출수기는 8월 22일 ~ 24일로 기계이앙 8월 19일 보다 3 ~ 5일이 늦었고, 직파재배 방법 중에는 싹튼볍씨 이용 무논점파(복토)에서 1 ~ 2일이 빨랐다. 간장은 기계이앙에 비하여 0.1 ~ 11.6 cm가 짧았고, 철분코팅볍씨를 사용한 담수산파와 무논점파는 통계적 유의차도 있었다. 벼 직파방법별로는 무논점파(복토) > 무논점파(철분) > 담수산파(철분) 순으로 길었고, 직파재배방법 간에 통계적 유의차도 있었다. 수장은 20.0 ~ 20.7 cm로 기계이앙 18.4 cm에 비하여 1.6 ~ 2.3 cm가 길었으나, 통계적 유의차는 없었다. 수량구성요소는 다 같이 벼 재배방법 간에 통계적으로 유의차는 없었으나, m2당 수수는 413 ~ 441개로 기계이앙과 3 ~ 22개 차이가 있었고, 벼 직파방법 간에는 담수산파(철분) > 무논점파(복토) > 무논점파(철분) 순으로 많았다. 수당입수는 76 ~ 84개로 기계이앙에 비하여 4 ~ 12개가 많았고, 벼 직파방법 간에는 무논점파(복토) > 담수산파(철분) > 무논점파(철분) 순으로 많았다. m2당 입수는 담수산파(철분) > 무논점파(복토) > 무논점파(철분) > 기계이앙 순으로 많았고, 등숙비율은 81.3 ~ 88.6%, 현미천립중은 24.1 ~ 25.8g이었다. 쌀수량은 10a당 494 ~ 524 kg으로 기계이앙 보다 2 ~ 8% 높았고, 벼 재배방법 간에는, 담수산파(철분) > 무논점파(복토) ≥ 무논점파(철분) > 기계이앙 순으로 높았으나, 통계적으로 유의차는 없었다. 현미품위는 완전미 비율이 무논점파(철분) 52.9% > 무논점파(복토) 43.6% > 담수산파(철분) 40.% 순으로 높았으나, 벼 직파재배의 현미품위는 기계이앙(64.3%) 보다는 통계적으로 유의하게 낮았다. 잎도열병은 이앙 후 45일(8월 2일) 전·후에 기계이앙 보다 좀 더 심하게 발생하였으나 벼 재배방법 다 같이 목도열병은 발생하지 않았다. 잎집무늬마름병은 기계이앙 10%, 직파재배 2 ~ 5% 정도 내외 이삭누룩병은 벼 재배방법 다같이 0.1% 정도 발생하였다. 잡초는 8월에 들어서 부터 기계이앙 0.5 ~ 1%, 담수산파(철분) 3 ~ 8%, 무논점파는 1 ~ 5% 발생하였다. 특히 담수산파는 9월 상순이후 후발 피 발생이 증가하였다. 잡초성벼는 벼 재배방법 다 같이 발생하지 않았다.

Effects of cultivation methods on methane emission in rice paddy

  • Methane is the main greenhouse gas released from rice paddy field. Methane from paddy fields accounts for 11 % of the global total methane emission. The global warming potential (GWP) of methane is 25 times more than that of carbon dioxide on a mass basis. It is well known that most effective practice to mitigate methane in paddy is related to the water management during rice growing season and the use of organic matters. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of tillage and cultivation method on methane emission in paddy. Tillage (tillage and no-tillage) and cultivation methods (transplanting and direct seeding) were combined tillage-transplanting (T-T), tillage-wet hill seeding (T-W), tillage-dry seeding (T-D) and no-till dry seeding (NT-D) to evaluate methane mitigation efficiency. Daily methane emission was decreased on seeding treatments (T-W, T-D, NT-D) than transplanting treatment (T-T). Amount of methane emission during rice growing season is highest in T-T ($411.7CH_4\;kg\;ha^{-1}y^{-1}$) and lowest in NT-D treatment (89.7). In T-W and T-D treatments, methane emissions were significantly decreased by 36 and 51 % respectively compared with T-T. Methane emissions were highly correlated with the dry weight of whole rice plant ($R^2=0.62{\sim}0.93$). T-T treatment showed highest $R^2$ (0.93) among the four treatments. Rice grain yields did not significantly differ with the tillage and cultivation methods used. These results suggest that direct seeding practice in rice production could mitigate the methane emissions without loss in grain yield.
