Rice hull was used as a additive in order to find the effect for incresing of mushroom growth and yield in Chungnam Provincial techinical institution. 1 Treatment of 80% rice hull in small Neutaribeosut mycelial grow duration is shorter about 11 days and yield increased about 7% than conventional culture. 2. In case of Chongpung Neutaribeosut bottle culture, mycelial growth duration is shorter about two to three days in additive of 30 to 80% rice hull compared to conventional but yield similar to conventional. 3. Treatment of 30% rice hull in Agrocybe aegerita bottle culture, mycelial growth and yield increased 6days and 6% than convrntional, respectively 4 Treatment additived of 30% to 40% rice hull in Ganoderma lucidum bottle culture, similar to 454ays demand in mycelial grow duration and 38g yield/bottle in conventioal culture methods.
A simplified physiologically-based dynamic model, SIMRIW was selected for predicting the growth and yield of rice. The applicability of the model to the rice cultivars and weather conditions in the Republic of Korea was evaluated. Parameters of the model were calibrated using actual rice yields in Suweon region and an optimization scheme, Constrained Rosenbrock Algorithm. The simulated results from the calibrated model were in good agreement with the field data. The model with parameters calibrated for Suweon was applied to other five regions for the evaluation of transferability, but the simulated results fell short of satisfaction. However, the model is found to be applied to real-time prediction of the growth and yield of rice crop, which is believed to be useful for timely rice crop management, agricultural policy making, and optimal irrigation water management.
To investigate the impacts of transgenic rice on freshwater organisms, we conducted two life table experiments using Daphnia magna for fifteen and twenty days, respectively. We examined life history traits such as population growth rates (r), reproductive rates ($R_0$), generation times, and survivorship. In the first experiment, we used non-drought-stressed transgenic and non-transgenic rice harvested in 2005. In the second study, we used non-transgenic and transgenic rice harvested in 2006 following drought stress. Each experiment involved three treatments in which D. magna neonates were fed with Selenastrum capricornutum (control treatment) and S. capricornutum with 5% aqueous extracts of non-transgenic rice (N-T) and transgenic rice (T). In the first experiment, D. magna showed reduced population growth rates and lowered fecundity in the N-T and T treatments. In the second experiment, D. magna receiving both transgenic and non-transgenic rice extracts showed very high mortality, low population growth rates and reproduction rates. We could not detect any significant negative effects of extracts from transgenic rice on D. magna life history traits at 95%.

Expanded rice husk (ERR) is different from commercial rice seedling media in chemical and physical properties such as pH, permeability, and water content. This study was conducted to test a possibility of improving rice seedling growth by improving the texture of ERR as a rice seedling medium. The seedling media used were a commercial seedling medium (CSM), rice husk, and ERR 1, 2, 3, and 4 with different expansion degrees. The pH of the ERHs ranged from 6.3 to 6.8. As the expansion rate increased, ERR particle sizes decreased, and water permeability and absorption rates improved. No significant differences in shoot dry weight and rate of maturity were found among the seedlings cultivated in the different ERH media. However, the mat formation of seedling roots became loose as the expansion rates were decreased. Further studies are necessary to determine the cause of poor root growth in ERH media.
Reduction in stratospheric ozone layer increases the amount of ultraviolet-B radiation (UVB: 280-320 nm) that reaches the earth ’ s surface. UVB radiationcan damage plants, resulting in decrease in growth and productivity. UVB-augmentation studies have indicated that the sensitivity to UVB radiation in plants varies among the species and cultivars. However. there are no definitive answers for the mechanisms of UVB-resistance in higher plants and for bioengineering design and development of UVB-tolerant plants. We have been studying physiological and biochemical aspects of the effects of UVB radiation on growth and yield of rice COryza sativa LJ. aiming to clarify the mechanism of resistance to UVB radiationin rice. At this meeting. weintroduce our research as followed: (1) supplementary UVB radiation has inhibitory effects on the growth. yield and grain development of rice; (2) UVB sensitivity of rice varies widely among cultivars; (3) among Japanese rice cultivars. Sasanishiki. a leading variety in northeast Japan. is more resistant to UVB. while Norin 1. a progenitor of Sasanishiki. is less resistant; (4)UV-sensitive Norin 1 cultivar is deficient in photorepair of UVB-induced cyclobutane pyrimidine dimer (CPD). and this deficiency results from one amino acid residue alteration of CPD photolyase. These results suggest that spontaneously occurring mutation in CPD photolyase gene could lead to difference in UVB sensitivity in rice. and that CPD photolyase might be a useful target for improving UVB-sensitivity in rice by selective breeding or bioengineering of UVB-tolerant rice.
Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) at C-band is an ideal remote sensing system for crop monitoring owing to its short wavelength, which interacts with the upper parts of the crop canopy. This study evaluated the potential of dual polarimetric Sentinel-1 at C-band for monitoring rice phenology. Rice phenological variations occur in a short period. Hence, the short revisit time of Sentinel-1 SAR system can facilitate the tracking of short-term temporal morphological variations in rice crop growth. The sensitivity of SAR backscattering coefficients, backscattering ratio, and polarimetric decomposition parameters on rice phenological stages were investigated through a time-series analysis of 33 Sentinel-1 Single Look Complex images collected from 10th April to 25th October 2020 in Gimhae, South Korea. Based on the observed temporal variations in SAR parameters, we could identify and distinguish the phenological stages of the Gimhae rice growth cycle. The backscattering coefficient in VH polarisation and polarimetric decomposition parameters showed high sensitivity to rice growth. However, amongst SAR parameters estimated in this study, the VH backscattering coefficient realistically identifies all phenological stages, and its temporal variation patterns are preserved in both Sentinel-1A (S1A) and Sentinel-1B (S1B). Polarimetric decomposition parameters exhibited some offsets in successive acquisitions from S1A and S1B. Further studies with data collected from various incidence angles are crucial to determine the impact of different incidence angles on polarimetric decomposition parameters in rice paddy fields.
This study was conducted to investigate the influence of $K_{2}O$ fertilizer application on growth, yield and lodging resistance of rice. Culm length and panicle length were lowest at the treatment of fertilizer level, $N-P_{2}O_{5}-K_{2}O=16-8-8$ plot but number of panicle, percentage of fruitful culm, $1{\ell}$ grain weights of paddy rice and brown rice, 1,000 grains weight of brown rice, brown rice ratio, yields of paddy rice and brown rice were highest at the treatment of fertilizer level, $N-P_{2}O_{5}-K_{2}O=16-8-8$ kg/10a plot. Bending moment, breaking strength and lodging index were lowest at the treatment of fertilizer level, $N-P_{2}O_{5}-K_{2}O=16-8-8$ kg/10a plot. Judging from the results reported above, an optimum fertilizer level of rice for lodging resistance is most likely be $N-P_{2}O_{5}-K_{2}O=16-8-8$ kg/10a treatment.

A 4 week experiment was designed to study the effects of replacing corn with Chinese brown rice or adding different amylase in brown rice basal diet on growth performance and apparent fecal digestibilities of nutrients in growing pigs. One hundred and eight cross-bred pigs (Duroc${\times}$Landrace${\times}$Large White), weighing an average of $18.35{\pm}0.12kg$, were randomly assigned to 6 treatments with 6 replications per treatment. Diet in treatment 1 was corn-soybean meal basal diet, and in treatment 2, 3 and 4, corn was replaced by brown rice on rates of 33.3%, 66.7% and 100% respectively on the basis of treatment 1. And diets in treatment 5 and 6 were similar to treatment 4 except two kinds of amylases, glucoamylase and ${\alpha}$-amylase, were added respectively. The brown rice used in this experiment was husked from one kind of early, long grain, non-glutinous rice (ELGNR, indica rice) in southern China. The results indicated that there was a slight improvement in growth performance of pigs in brown rice treatments (p>0.05). The blood urea nitrogen value in treatment 2 was lower than that in treatment 1 (p<0.05). The differences of apparent fecal digestibilities of most nutrients were significant (p<0.05) except CP. Digestibilities of GE, OM and DM in treatment 4 were the best and digestibility of crude fat in treatment 5 appeared best (p<0.05). Contrast results between treatment 1 and treatment 2 to 4 indicated that the digestibility of GE, OM and DM increased significantly with the replacing rates of brown rice (p<0.05). Contrast results between treatment 4 and 5 indicated that adding glucoamylase in brown rice diet increased growth performance slightly (p>0.05) but not for digestibilities. This experiment shows a positive effect of brown rice on growth performance, especially on nutrient digestibility.
The purpose of this study is to develop a technology for estimating rice growth and damage effect according to bacterial leaf blight using UAV multi-spectral imagery. For this purpose, we analyzed the change of aerial images, rice growth factors (plant height, dry weight, LAI) and disease effects according to disease occurrence by using UAV images for 3 rice varieties (Milyang23, Sindongjin-byeo, Saenuri-byeo) from 2017 to 2018. The correlation between vegetation index and rice growth factor during vegetative growth period showed a high value of 0.9 or higher each year. As a result of applying the growth estimation model built in 2017 to 2018, the plant height of Milyang23 showed good error withing 10%. However, it is considered that studies to improve the accuracy of other items are needed. Fixed wing unmanned aerial photographs were also possible to estimate the damage area after 2 to 4 weeks from inoculation. Although sensing data in the multi-spectral (Blue, Green, Red, NIR) band have limitations in early diagnosis of rice disease, for rice varieties such as Milyang23 and Sindongjin-byeo, it was possible to construct the equation of infected leaf area ratio and rice yield estimation using UAV imagery in early and mid-September with high correlation coefficient of 0.8 to 0.9. The results of this study are expected to be useful for farming and policy support related to estimating rice growth, rice plant disease and yield change based on UAV images.
Gibberellins are growth hormones that play a pivotal role in the growth and development of plants. Present investigations were carried to check the effect of nitrogen(N) and silicon(Si) on bioactive $GA_1$ and its immediate precursor $GA_{20}$ at different growth stages of two rice cultivars with different maturity traits. It was observed that the endogenous bioactive $GA_1$ level gradually increased during vegetative stage and anthesis stage of both Junghwabyeo(early flowering cultivar) and Daesanbyeo(late flowering cultivar). However, the $GA_1$ and $GA_{20}$ content start decreasing during the seed filling stage in both rice cultivars, which indicated a possible relationship of bioactive $GA_1$ and floral development. Our results also confirmed that early 13-hydroxylation pathway was operated at all developmental stages of rice plant. Variation in the levels of the endogenous gibberellins in rice shoots were measured by GCMS-SIM using $^2H_2$-labeled gibberellins as internal standards. Combined application of N and Si enhanced growth parameters and reduced lodging index of both rice cultivars. It was thus concluded that the level of physiologically active $GA_1$ increased during vegetative and early reproductive stage, but starts declining at seed filling stage.
