승용 이앙기 부착형 제초입제 살포기 개발과 살포성능 (Development and Application Performance of a Granular Herbicide Applicator Attached to Rice Transplanter)

  • A herbicide applicator attached to a rice transplanter was developed to perform herbicide application and transplanting simultaneously. The prototype machine was composed of herbicide tank, discharge device, spinner, scattering plate and power drive. The application rate of the machine could be adjusted from 10 to 30 kg/㏊ and the application swath was 1.8m. According to the field test, application uniformity showed the range of 13.6~43.9% in terms of CV(coefficient of variation) depending on the spinner speed, application height and shape of diffuser. The best uniformity could be achieved with the spinner speed of 30.8m/s and application height of 20cm. Field efficiency of the prototype was 4.7hr/㏊. Transplanting machine has field efficiency of 4.6hr/㏊ in Korea. By attaching the herbicide applicator, field efficiency became lowed only by 0.1hr/㏊, which was counted for filling time of herbicide. Simultaneous operation of transplanting and herbicide application had a of labor saying. The weed control efficacy was measured to be 96% in field when AC140 + Stomp and Londax + YRC was applied at the 65th day after transplanting. 벼농사용 무인 제초로봇의 건답환경 주행 성능 (Traveling Performance of a Robot Platform for Unmanned Weeding in a Dry Field)

  • This paper introduces a robot platform which can do weeding while traveling between rice seedlings stably against irregular land surface of a paddy field. Also, an autonomous navigation technique that can track on stable state without any damage of the seedlings in the working area is proposed. Detection of the rice seedlings and avoidance knocking down by the robot platform is achieved by the sensor fusion of a laser range finder (LRF) and an inertial measurement unit (IMU). These sensors are also used to control navigating direction of the robot to keep going along the column of rice seedling consistently. Deviation of the robot direction from the rice column that is sensed by the LRF is fed back to a proportional and derivative controller to obtain stable adjustment of navigating direction and get proper returning speed of the robot to the rice column.

Enhancing the Biological Control of Rice Seedling Disease by Adding Specific Carbon Sources into the Bacillus cereus D324 Formulation in Water-Seeded Rice

  • Utilization of carbon sources by Bacillus cereus D324, a biological control agent, and Pythium species, which causes rice seedling disease, was studied with the objective of increasing the efficacy of biological control by providing the biological control agent with specific beneficial carbon sources. D-galactose, D-sorbitol, and D-mannitol were poor carbon sources for Pythium spp. growth but were good for B. cereus D324 growth. Growth in a growth chamber of rice seeds coated with B. cereus D324 amended with specific carbon sources, such as D-galactose and D-sorbitol, showed significantly enhanced seedling emergence compared to seeds coated only with B. cereus D324. Field trials showed that both seedling emergence and yield increased, when the above specific carbon sources were added to B. cereus D324 in seed coating formulations. This result indicated that amending seed coating formulations with specific carbon sources could significantly increase seedling emergence and yield in the field.

  • The objective of this study is to measure backscattering coefficients of paddy rice using L, C, X-bands scatterometer system during a rice growth period. The measurement was conducted at an experimental field located in National Institute of Agricultural Science and Technology (NIAST), Suwon, Korea. The rice cultivar was a kind of Japonica type, called Chuchung. The scatterometer system consists of dual-polarimetric square horn antennas, HP8720D vector network analyzer (20MHz ${\sim}$ 20GHz), RF cables, and a personal computer that controls frequency, polarization and data storage. The scatterometer system is calibrated using a calibration kit (3.5mm, 85052D). The backscattering coefficients were calculated by applying radar equation for the measured at incidence angles between $20^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ for four polarization (HR, VV, HV, VH), respectively, and compared with rice growth data such as plant height, stem number, biomass, dry weight and LAI that were collected at time of each scatterometer measurement simultaneously.

벼멸구 생태형의 교잡종별 발육 및 수도 품종별 피해 (Development of the Brown Planthopper, Nilaparvata lungens Sta$\{aa}$l, Biotypes and Their Hybrid Progenies Fed on Different Cultivars of Rice with Various Resistance Gene and Damage of Different Rice Cultivars)

  • Some attempts were made to investigate the gentic characteristics of the brown planthopper(BPH), Nilaparvata lugens Sta${\aa}$l, biotypes. In terms of egg and nymphal periods, egg hatcgability, emergence ratio, and population change of BPH and plant damage of rice cultivars by the infestation of BPH biotypes and their hybrid progenies in field conditions. The egg and nymphal periods of the three of BPH biotypes and their hybrid progenies on Dongjinbyeo with no resistance gene were shorter than on rice cultivars with resistance gene. But the periods of biotype-2(♀) X 2(♂) (E) on Samgangbyeo with Bph-1 gene and biotype-3(♀) X 3(♂)(I) on Mirying 63 with bph-2 gene were as short as on Dongjinbyeo. The egg hatchability and emergence ratio of the three Bph biotypes and their hybrid progenies on Dongjinbyeo were higher than on the other rice cultivars, and those of E on Samgangbyeo and I on Miryang 63 were as high as on Dongjinbyeo. In rice paddy field, biotype-1(♀) X 1(♂)(A)$\sim$I infested on Dongjinbyeo, E onSamgangbyeo, and I on Miryang 63 were increased their population densities remarkably in next generation. Dongjinbyeo infested by A$\sim$I, and Myryang 63 infested by I were hopperburned at 60 days after infestation and had a damage rating of 0.9. But Samgangbyeo infested by E was no hopperburn(damage rating: 7.3) though it showed high BPH population at 60 days after infestation.

Diallel Analysis for Rice Allelopathic Potential against Barnyardgrass Assessed in Field Condition

  • A complete diallel cross was performed to determine the inheritance of allelopathic potential and combining ability of six rice germplasm that showed different level of allelopathic potential against barnyardgrass. Parents and F1 of 30 crosses were assessed for allelophatic potential in field condition. Barnyardgrass (Echinochloa crus-galli (L.) Beauv. var. frumentaceae) was used for rice allelopathic potential indicator which was observed in height and shoot dry weight, then suppression percentage were calculated by comparing to barnyardgrass grown in control plot (no rice). It was found that general combining ability showed no significant effect, whereas specific combining ability and reciprocal effect were significant. Variance analysis confirmed that genetic control of allelopathic potential in rice against barnyardgrass was mostly directed by dominance gene effect. The dominant genes were associated with high allelopathic potential and recessive genes were associated with low allelopathic potential. Heritability in broad sense for barnyardgrass dry weight suppression was around 41%; whereas for barnyardgrass height suppression was 51%. However, heritability in narrow sense was very low. The finding suggests that accumulation of genes associated with allelopathic potential would be a strategy to develop promising varieties in reference with the specific combining ability of cross combinations.

벼의 냉수피해 감소를 위한 관개수온 조사와 대책수립 (Measurement of Irrigation Water Temperature and Preventive Measure against Cold Watter Damage to Paddy Rice)

  • Paddy rice is semi-tropical crop and requires warmirrigation water. If mean water temperature at the water source during the growing period is below 18$^{\circ}C$, sime kinds of water warming mechanism should be taken. In this study irrigation water temperature is measured and preventive measures to cold water damage on paddy rice are suggested. Field observations were performed at 100ha field area downtream of the Unmoon reservoir during the growing season of 1997. Land use, canal system, water temperature at irrigation canals. reservoir, and paddy fields were observed. In addition, growth and yield of the rice at selected plots were observed. Accordingly to the record, cold water damage occurred in this area due to the cold irrigation water supply in 1996. It did not occur because of the effective irrigation water management practice in 1997. However, several preventive measures such as pontoon intake system, using existing weir and construting a new warming pond, are suggested to prevent cold water damage in the future. If a new warming pond is construted to raise irrigation water temperature by 2 $^{\circ}C$, a pond area of 2.94 ha is required.

1993년 경상남도지역의 벼도열병 다발생과 그 원인 (Factors Affecting Unusually Severe Outbreak of Rice Blast in Gyeongnam Province in 1993)

  • Unusually severe rice blast epidemic sweeped over the rice growing area in Gyeongnam Province and elsewhere in 1993. Leaf blast infection was reached to 33,133 ha, which is about 24.5% of total paddy area and neck blast infection was apparent throughout 4,421 ha. Major factors affecting such an unusual epidemic appeared to be as follow: Firstly, low temperature, frequent rainfall and coincidentally insufficient duration of sunshine through July and August; Secondly, most cultivars possessing low levels of field resistance were cultivated in wide areas: Thirdly, blast fungus population was enough for successive infection under optimum weather condition and most races distributed in field were able to infect most cultivars.

봄철 논습지에 도래하는 도요·물떼새의 서식지 이용과 개체군 변동 (Characteristics of Population Dynamics and Habitat Use of Shorebirds in Rice Fields during Spring Migration)

  • 본 연구는 봄철 논습지에 도래하는 도요 물떼새류의 도래패턴과 서식지 이용 특성을 파악하고자 수행되었다. 조사는 한국 중서부지역에 위치한 아산만 일대의 농경지에서 2014년 4월 21일부터 5월 30일까지 2~3일 간격으로 총 18회 수행 되었다. 조사 기간 동안 관찰된 도요 물떼새류는 총 15종 7,852개체였다. 대상 종들의 시기별 도래 특성은 본답에 물을 대기 시작하는 4월 중반부터 관찰되었고 5월 초까지 지속적으로 종수와 개체수가 증가하는 경향이 나타났으며 5월 후반으로 가면서 종수와 개체수는 감소하였다. 농경지의 물리적 구조에 따른 서식지 이용 특성은 종별 차이가 나타났으며, 대부분의 종에서 본답과 논둑은 수로나 농로에 비해 선호성이 높게 나타났다. 본답의 미소서식지 선호성은 지역 농업인의 농업 관리에 의해 다양하게 나타났으며, 도요 물떼새류의 종별 서식지의 선호성 차이가 명확히 나타났다. 대부분 종은 무논의 본답 형태에서 관찰되었고, 써레질 후 5 cm 이하로 물을 얕게 댄 형태인 본답의 이용이 가장 높았다. 반면 물을 대지 않은 건답의 형태인 수확 후 추경한 형태는 이용을 하지 않았다. 결론적으로 봄철 논습지는 도요 물떼새류에게 중간 기착지로서 중요한 기능을 하는 것으로 나타났다.

Status of Rice Paddy Field and Weather Anomaly in the Spring of 2015 in DPRK

  • To understand the impact of 2015 spring drought on crop production of DPRK (Democratic People's Republic of Korea), we analyzed satellite and weather data to produce 2015 spring outlook of rice paddy field and rice growth in relation to weather anomaly. We defined anomaly of 2015 for weather and NDVI in comparison to past 5 year-average data. Weather anomaly layers for rainfall and mean temperature were calculated based on 27 weather station data. Rainfall in late April, early May, and late May in 2015 was much lower than those in average years. NDVI values as an indicator of rice growth in early June of 2015 was much lower than in 2014 and the average years. RapidEye and Radarsat-2 images were used to monitor status of rice paddy irrigation and transplanting. Due to rainfall shortage from late April to May, rice paddy irrigation was not favorable and rice planting was not progressed in large portion of paddy fields until early June near Pyongyang. Satellite images taken in late June showed rice paddy fields which were not irrigated until early June were flooded, assuming that rice was transplanted after rainfall in June. Weather and NDVI anomaly data in regular basis and timely acquired satellite data can be useful for grasping the crop and land status of DPRK, which is in high demand.
