This study was designed to compare the Biological effects of the cereals and legumes Proteins on albino rats. Fifty weaning albino rats weighing $49\;gr{\pm}2$ in both sexes were divided into 5 groups and fed corn crude protein diet, wheat crude protein diet, soybean protein diet, yeast diet and 30% sugar-casein diet for the control group. The protein contains same levels with isocaloric values each diet. After 12 weeks the rats were sacrificed for chemical analysis and the results are as follow ; 1. The highest food consumption was found in the groups of yeast and soybean, and the lowest was found in the groups of wheat diet and corn diet. 2. The groups of yeast & soybean protein showed the highest body weight increase, while the groups of wheat diet and corn diet showed the lowest. 3. Highly significant difference was found between the standard group and the groups of corn protein and soybean protein in Food Efficiency Ratio. (F. E. R.) (p<0.01). 4. Protein Efficiency Ratio showed a similar pattern as the F.E.R., however, there was no significant differences among the groups. 5. The kind of diets did not influence the hematology of the subjects. 6. The rate of nitrogen retention of male standard group was lower compared with all the experimental groups (p<0.01), and that of female soybean group was higher than any other groups (p<0.01). 7. Female corn diet group had the lowest organ weights, as found in the growth rate, which was significant (p<0.01). In the male corn diet group only the kidney showed significantly low in weight (p<0.01), and the spleen of male yeast group was also shown low with significance (p<0.01). 8. Nitrogen retentions of the liver and muscle in male corn diet group were lower than any other groups (p<0.05), and the brain nitrogen content of female standard group was high with significance (p<0.01). According to the results above, yeast and soybean protein can be regarded as a nutritious and also inexpensive protein sources.
This experiment was conducted for 4 weeks to compare the feeding values of dried meal of Russian Comfrey and Kale as green feeds with Acacia leaf meal and Ladino clover meal, and to investigate the effects of feeding these on the total cholesterol in blood serum and liver fat content. Seventy-five male chicks of Single Comb White Leghorn were allotted into 5 treatments. Fifteen birds in each treatment were received Russian Comfrey meal, Kale meal, Acasia leaf meal, Ladino clover meal or no dried meal, respectively. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. No significant differences were recognized between the treatments and control in the growth rate, feed consumption, feed efficiency, utilization of nutrients, nitrogen retention and metabolizable energy value. 2. Carotene content in Russian Comfrey and Kale has been decreased as the growing stage advanced, and the leaves of both vegetable contained significantly (p<0.01) more carotene than that in stems. Vitamin C content of leaves was also signifcantly (p<0.01) higher than that in stems, however, vitamin C content has been increased as the growing stage advanced. 3. Toltal cholesterol content in blood serum of the chickens fed the Acacia leaf meal or Russian Comfrey meal was significantly (p<0.05) lower than Ladino clover meal fed group or those received no green feeds. Kale seems to decrease cholesterol content a little. Above results indicated that Acacia leaf and Russian Comfrey might contain certain substances that would depressing the cholesterol content. 4. No significant differences in the liver fat were discovered among the treatment but it was observed that liver fat was decreased as the cholesterol content increased.

This study is to analyze the characteristics of golf course water usage using groundwater and rainwater data obtained from 17 golf courses in Jeju Island during 2007~2009. The groundwater usages were 246,275 $m^3/year$, 213,062 $m^3/year$, 155,235 $m^3/year$, and 126,666 $m^3/year$ in the west, south, east, and north regions, respectively. Monthly rate of the amount of groundwater usage to the amount of permission was 29.5%. The rainfall usages were 386,591 $m^3/year$, 326,464 $m^3/year$, 251,248 $m^3/year$, and 232,061 $m^3/year$ in the south, west, east, and north regions, respectively. Monthly rate of rainwater usage to the amount of water retention of golf courses was 19.6%. The average annual water usage in the 17 golf courses was 499,377 $m^3/year$. From the average usage, it was found that the rainwater usage (305,126 $m^3/year$ ) was 1.6 times higher than that of groundwater (194,251 $m^3/year$ ). That means the annual average rainwater usage to the entire water usage was 61.1%, which was above the criteria of 40%.

Landfill leachate was successfully treated in upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactors regardless of the addition of granular sludge. Initial operating period was significantly reduced by the addition of granular sludge. At hydraulic retention time (HRT) of one day, chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal rates in Control and Granule reactor were maintained over 90%, respectively with organic loading rate (OLR) of $4-8kgCOD/m^3.d$. During the experiment, the inorganic precipitates were accumulated in and around the sludge, and in the wall of the reactors were formed in both reactors regardless of addition of granular sludge. Specific methanogenic activity (SMA) increased as adaptation of microorganism to the substrate and OLR were increased. The maximum SMA value of the sludge for Granule reactor was about $0.57gCOD/g{\cdot}VSS{\cdot}.d$. The SMA value was not decreased because of excessive inorganic accumulation, however, it was needed to have pre-treatment process of influent to remove the inorganic metals.

Removal rates of NO3-N and TN in a free water surface wetland system during emergent plant growing season and non-growing were investigated. The system was established on floodplain in the down reach of the Gwangju Stream in 2008. Its dimensions were 46 meters in length and 5 meters in width. Typha angustifloria L. growing in pots about two years were planted on the half area of the system and Zizania latifolia Turcz on the other half. Water of the stream was funneled into it by gravity flow and its effluent was discharged back into it. Volumes and water quality of inflow and outflow were analyzed from October 2008 to September 2009. Inflow into the system averaged approximately 715 $m^3$/day and hydraulic residence time was about 1.5 hr. Average influent and effluent $NO_3$-N concentration was 3.37 and 2.74 mg/L, respectively and $NO_3$-N retention amounted to 18.7%. Influent and effluent TN concentration averaged 4.67 and 3.69 mg/L, respectively and TN abatement reached to 20.9%. $NO_3$-N removal rate (%) during plant growing season ($22.67{\pm}3.70$, mean ${\pm}$ standard error) was significantly high (p<0.001) when compared with that during plant non-growing one ($15.02{\pm}3.23$). TN abatement rate (%) during plant growing season ($27.42{\pm}5.98$) was also significantly high (p<0.001) when compared with that during plant non-growing one ($13.66{\pm}3.08$).
The work history of the workers injured in industrial accidents was recomposed by combining the database on compensation for industrial accidents with the database on employment insurance among those who were newly classified as disabled during the period from 1998 to 2000. It shows that the injured workers mainly returned to the original workplaces, and such workers had higher job retention rate. It is in contrast with the higher separation rate of the workers who started to work at the new workplace after medical recuperation. And it is found that 61% left or lost their jobs out of the injured workers who returned to work, and 77% of the job separators had job tenure less than one year. The analysis based on competing risks model shows that the workers at the smaller workplace have the shorter the employment duration, and the longer job-searching period has the negative effect on the employment duration of the job losers. In addition, the longer employment duration at the first job after medical recuperation is more effective on the reemployment and job stability after separation.

A quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (QPCR) was applied to estimate biokinetic coefficients of Clostridium cadaveris and Clostridium sporogenes, which utilize protein as carbon source. Experimental data on changes in peptone concentration and 16S rRNA gene copy numbers of C. cadaveris and C. sporogenes were fitted to model. The fourth-order Runge-Kutta approximation with non-linear least squares analysis was employed to solve the ordinary differential equations to estimate biokinetic coefficients. The maximum specific growth rate (μmax), half-saturation concentration (Ks), growth yield (Y), and decay coefficient (Kd) of C. cadaveris and C.sporogenes were 0.73 ± 0.05 and 1.35 ± 0.32 h-1, 6.07 ± 1.52 and 5.67 ± 1.53 g/l, 2.25 ± 0.75 × 1010 and 7.92 ± 3.71 × 109 copies/g, 0.002 ± 0.003 and 0.002 ± 0.001 h-1, respectively. The theoretical specific growth rate of C. sporogenes always exceeded that of C. cadaveris at peptone concentration higher than 3.62 g/l. When the influent peptone concentration was 5.0 g/l, the concentration of C.cadaveris gradually decreased to the steady value of 2.9 × 1010 copies/ml at 4 h Hydraulic retention time (HRT), which indicates a 67.1% reduction of the initial population, but the wash out occurred at HRTs of 1.9 and 3.2 h. The 16S rRNA gene copy numbers of C. sporogenes gradually decreased to steady values ranging from 1.1 × 1010 to 2.9 × 1010 copies/ml. C. sporogenes species was predicted to wash out at an HRT of 1.6 h.
Protein-energy malnutrition is regarded as one of the public health problems in developing countries as a result of poor feeding practices due to poverty. This study, therefore, aimed at evaluating nutritional quality of a potential weaning food formulated from locally available food materials. The cooking banana fruit(CB) and bambara groundnut seeds(BG) were purchased from local market in Akure, Ondo State, Nigeria. The CB and BG were processed into flours, mixed in ratios of 90:10, 80:20, 70:30 and 60:40 and subjected into proximate, sensory and biochemical analyses using standard procedures. Nutrend(a commercial formula) and ogi(corn gruel, a traditional weaning food) were used as control. The nutritient composition(g/100 g) of the food samples were ranged as follows: moisture 2.94-6.94, protein 7.02-16.0, ash 1.76-2.99, fat 0.76-8.45, fibre 1.52-3.75, carbohydrate 63.84-88.43 and energy 1569.8-1665.7 kcal. The biological value(BV), net protein retention(NPR), protein efficiency ratio(PER) and feed efficiency ratio(FER) of the experimental food samples were significantly(p<0.05) lower than nutrend, but higher than ogi. The haematological variables of rats fed with formulated food samples, commercial formula(nutrend) and traditional weaning food(ogi) were not significantly(p>0.05) influenced by the dietary treatment. However, the values obtained for red blood cell(RBC), white blood cell(WBC), pack cell volume(PCV) and erythrocyte sedimentation rate(ESR) were higher in the experimental food samples than the commercial food. The growth rate of animals fed with experimental food samples were lower than those fed with the nutrend, but higher than those fed with ogi. In conclusion, the nutritional quality of CB and fermented BG mix of 60:40 ratio was better than ogi; and comparable to the nutrend. This implies that it can be used to replace low quality traditional weaning food and the expensive commercial weaning formula.
The treated ballast water from previous treatment contains microorganisms and pathogenic organisms in an electrolytic treatment system. The experimental methods included using a peristaltic flow pump placed upward on an electrode pole. Due to the reaction time, the hydraulic retention time indicated unlike microorganisms on the flow rate. In electrolysis, dioxide iridium-coated titanium (Ti/Ir02) and stainless steel plates were used for the anode and cathode, respectively. Current density controls make use of a DC power supply on 250V, 100Amper. Experimental use of a current density between 0.1 and 1.0A/dm2 was able to disinfect the microorganism (E. coli, Bacteria, Bacillus sp.) in seawater for 5 seconds of reaction time. The removal rate was approximately $90\%,$ while the current density was 2.0A/dm2 and the electrode distance was 75mm. This study shows that the electrolytic treatment system has a potential for the sterilization of ballast water.
To examine the characteristics of the nutrient release from the sediments in two reservoirs, Lake Paldang and Lake Cheungpyeung, we analyzed physical and chemical properties of the sediments and calculated the nutrient release rates from the sediments. The particle properties of sediments in Lake Paldang changed from silt to sand after summer rainy season, especially in the water area of the Kyeungan River where the water depth was shallow and the width of river was narrow. The sediments in Lake Cheungpyeung had higher contents of silt and clay than in Lake Paldang, and the particle size was not much different before and after rainfall. The release rates of nutrients in two lakes varied with the kind of nutrients and the season. The release rates of DTN and ${NH_4}^+-N$ in Lake Paldang were faster in spring than autumn. But the Lake Cheungpyeung showed similar values of release rates before and after summer rainy season. ${NO_3}^--N$ and phosphorous were not released from sediments or were absorbed into sediments all the time in two lakes. Compared with other lakes, the sediments of two lakes consisted of bigger particles and had a lower organic matters content than other lake-type reservoirs. Due to the short hydraulic retention time and no stratification throughout the year in Lake Paldang and Lake Cheungpyeung, the release rates of nutrients from sediment in these reservoirs were lower than other lakes and this seems to be a typical characteristic of river-type reservoirs.
