  • Data hiding is a way to hide the information in multimedia media such as images or video. The scheme proposed by Nguyen and Chang, was able to embed, extract, and restore the cover image and the secret data using Sudoku. But in the extracting phase, the occurrence of duplicate values in the reference matrix was found to decrease the embedding capacity of secret data. This paper has proposed a reversible data hiding scheme while maintaining the quality of the image to provide high embedding capacity using $7{\times}7$ Sudoku and Shamir's secret sharing scheme.

  • This paper deals with the gravimetric solution of geoid by Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) technique in and around Korean Peninsula. The used reference surface is OSU91A geopotential model up to degree and order 180 refered to GRS80. The remove and restore technique was applied to obtain the geoidal height in this paper. And the FFT with 20% window was applied to compute the medium wavelength effect from terrestrial gravity anomalies. For the comparison of computed results, the geometric geoidal height was derived from GPS/Levelling data. According to the comparison, the mean value and RMSE of the differences are 0.3819m and 0.4695m respectively.

  • In this article, an explicit solution of the EM algorithm for the image deburring is presented. To obtain the restore image from the strictly iterative EM algorithm is quite time-consumed and impractical in particular when the underlying observed image is not small and the number of iterations required to converge is large. The explicit solution provides a quite reasonable restore image although it exploits the approximation in the outside of the valid area of image, and also allows to obtain the effective EM solutions without iteration process in real-time in practice by using the discrete finite Fourier transformation.

  • This paper deals with the geoid modelling in and around Korean peninsula referred to Bessel ellipsoid. Several useful data were used to compute precise geoidal heights referred to GRS80 by remove and restore technique and FFT technique was used to evaluate Stokes' integral. All grid point elevations extracted from GTOPO 30 and Bessel coordinates of all grid point were computed through coordinates transformation by applying three transformation parameters. Finally, geoidal heights referred to Bessel ellipsoid were calculated by geometric method. As the results of this study, a precise gravimetric geoid model referred to GRS80 (KOGGDM33) and geoid model referred to Bessel ellipsoid(KOBGDM33) in and around Korean peninsula were developed. KOBGDM33 shows the gradual distribution of geoidal heights from -91.8 m in Yongampo to -39.0 m in the straits of Korea.

  • Batch type and column type experiments were performed in order to predict adsorption and movement within soil. Clay minerals montmorillonite and kaolinite were respectively added to paraquat which is a cationic compound with long residual time, 2,4-D which is an anionic compound with relatively short residual time and napropamide which is an amphoteric compound. Therefore, it is very important to determine the movements of toxic pollutants in the ground soil to establish measures to prevent soil grounds contamination and to restore contaminated soils effectively, because contamination of soil is getting severe due to these toxic wastes, industrial waste water, and agricultural chemicals, etc. Therefore, in this study, we have carried out column and batch experiments by using general toxic organic compounds as test samples in order to restore contaminated soils effectively as well as to prepare a basic data to develop absorbents that will remove various toxic organic compounds, with a grandiose purpose to prevent contaminations of soil and grounds due to various toxic organic compounds.

  • Currently, with the rapid development of the digital age, multimedia-related image devices become popular. However, images are susceptible to corruption in processing image data due to the impulse noise and active researches have been conducted to restore these images. This paper, in order to restore the damaged images in impulse noise environments, suggested an image restoration algorithm which applies weights depending on spatial distance between directionality and pixel by focusing on damaged pixels. Additionally, this algorithm was compared with existing methods by using the PSNR (peak signal to noise ratio) as the objective standard to judge whether there were improved effects.

  • This paper describes a smart structural system, which uses smart materials for real-time monitoring and active control of bolted-joints in steel structures. The goal of this research is to reduce the possibility of failure and the cost of maintenance of steel structures such as bridges, electricity pylons, steel lattice towers and so on. The concept of the smart structural system combines impedance based health monitoring techniques with a shape memory alloy (SMA) washer to restore the tension of the loosened bolt. The impedance-based structural health monitoring (SHM) techniques were used to detect loosened bolts in bolted-joints. By comparing electrical impedance signatures measured from a potentially damage structure with baseline data obtained from the pristine structure, the bolt loosening damage could be detected. An outlier analysis, using generalized extreme value (GEV) distribution, providing optimal decision boundaries, has been carried out for more systematic damage detection. Once the loosening damage was detected in the bolted joint, the external heater, which was bonded to the SMA washer, actuated the washer. Then, the heated SMA washer expanded axially and adjusted the bolt tension to restore the lost torque. Additionally, temperature variation due to the heater was compensated by applying the effective frequency shift (EFS) algorithm to improve the performance of the diagnostic results. An experimental study was conducted by integrating the piezoelectric material based structural health monitoring and the SMA-based active control function on a bolted joint, after which the performance of the smart 'self-monitoring and self-healing bolted joint system' was demonstrated.

  • In the U.S., the state, local, tribe, and territorial governments seek funding from the federal government through the Public Assistance program to carry out these recovery works. In this paper historic public assistance data between 1998 and 2021 have been analyzed to derive several insights such as: types of disasters causing the most damage, states requiring more support, net present value of the federal expense etc. This paper has found that the states requiring more support from the federal government are not always the states suffering the maximum losses from the disasters. It has also found that the net present value of the federal expense between 1998 and 2020 to restore, repair, reconstruct, or replace disaster damaged roads and bridges across the U.S. is $15 billion in 2021 values. Moreover, this paper has tested the correlation between the states' public assistance funds requirements and the existing condition and performance of roads and bridges as revealed by the American Society of Civil Engineer's infrastructure grade card. It has found a weak correlation between these two. The outcomes of this paper can be used by the decision makers to analyze the viability of any possible alternative to the exiting public assistance program. The insights can also help in better decision making in pre-disaster preparation and post-disaster funds allocation.

  • This paper propose a method for representing distributed data of sensor networks. The proposed method is based on a general distributed regression framework that models sensor data by fitting a global function to each of the local measurements and explores the possible extensions of distribution regression by using complex signal representations. In order to reduce the amount of processed data and the required communication, the signal model has to be as compact as possible, with the ability to restore the arbitrary measurements. To achieve this requirement, data compression step is included, where the basis function set is changed to an overcomplete set. This have better advantages in case of nonstationary signal modeling than complete base representation.

  • Reversible data hiding techniques have been developed to hide confidential data in the image by shifting the histogram of the image. These techniques have a weakness in which the security of hidden confidential data is weak. In this paper, to solve this drawback, we propose a technique of triple encrypting confidential data using pixel value information and hiding it in the cover image. When confidential data is triple encrypted using the proposed technique and hidden in the cover image to generate a stego-image, since encryption based on pixel information is performed three times, the security of confidential data hidden by triple encryption is greatly improved. In the experiment to measure the performance of the proposed technique, even if the triple-encrypted confidential data was extracted from the stego-image, the original confidential data could not be extracted without the encryption keys. And since the image quality of the stego-image is 48.39dB or higher, it was not possible to recognize whether confidential data was hidden in the stego-image, and more than 30,487 bits of confidential data were hidden in the stego-image. The proposed technique can extract the original confidential data from the triple-encrypted confidential data hidden in the stego-image without loss, and can restore the original cover image from the stego-image without distortion. Therefore, the proposed technique can be effectively used in applications such as military, medical, digital library, where security is important and it is necessary to completely restore the original cover image.
