  • A total of 134 patients with stage 1 of non-small cell lung cancer treated by carbon ion beam of HIMAC NIRS were investigated for control rate and delivered dose. The delivered dose of every patient was converted to biological effective dose (BED) of LQ model using fraction number, dose per fraction and alpha beta ratio which shows the maximum correlation between BED and tumor control. The BED of every patient was classified to establish a BED response curve for control. Assuming fraction numbers, dose response curves were introduced from BED response curve. The total doses to realize several control rates were obtained for the treatment of small fraction number.

  • Background: This analysis was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a combination of gemcitabine and nedaplatin in treating patients with non-small cell lung cancer. Methods: Clinical studies evaluating the efficacy and safety of a combination of gemcitabine and nedaplatin with attention to response and safety for patients with non-small cell lung cancer were identified using a predefined search strategy. Pooled response rates for gemcitabine and nedaplatin were calculated. Results: In gemcitabine and nedaplatin based regimens, 4 clinical studies including 112 patients with non-small cell lung cancer were considered eligible for inclusion. The pooled analysis suggested that the pooled reponse rate was 40.2% (45/112). Main side effects included grade 3-4 neutropenia, thrombocytopenia, and anemia. Grade 3-4 nonhematological toxicity included nausea and vomiting, diarrhea, and hepatic dysfunction. There were no treatment-related deaths. Conclusion: This evidence based analysis suggests that the combination of gemcitabine and nedaplatin is associated with good response rate and accepted toxicity for treating patients with non-small cell lung cancer.

  • Purpose: This systematic analysis was conducted to evaluate the efficacy and safety of nedaplatin based salvage chemotherapy for treatment of patients with advanced cervical cancer. Methods: Clinical studies evaluating the efficacy and safety of nedaplatin based regimens on response and safety for patients with cervical cancer were identified using a predefined search strategy. Pooled response rates (RRs) were calculated. Results: For nedaplatin based regimens, 5 clinical studies including 264 patients with advanced cervical cancer were considered eligible for inclusion. The analysis showed that, in all patients, pooled RR was 74.6% (197/264). Major adverse effects were leukopenia, thrombocytopenia and nausea/vomiting. No treatment related death occurred with nedaplatin based treatment. Conclusion: This systematic analysis suggests that nedaplatin based regimens are associated with good activity with acceptable tolerability in treating patients with advanced cervical cancer.

  • Thermal mass flow meters (TMFMs) are most widely used for measuring mass flow rates in the semiconductor industry. A TMFM should have a short response time in order to measure the time-varying flow rate rapidly and accurately. Therefore it is important to study transient heat transfer phenomena in the sensor tube of a TMFM that is the most critical part in the TMFM. In the present work, a simple numerical model for transient heat transfer phenomena of the sensor tube of a TMFM is presented. Numerical solutions for the tube and fluid temperatures in a transient state are obtained using the proposed model and compared with experimental results to validate the proposed model. Based on numerical solutions, heat transfer mechanism in a transient state in the sensor tube is explained. Finally, a correlation for predicting the response time of a sensor tube is presented. The correlation is verified by experimental results.

  • A Direct injection -mixing total -flow -control sprayer was developed and evaluated . The system provided precise application rates and minimized operator exposure to chemicals as well as providing a possibility for recycling container so f unused chemicals that can causes environmental contamination. Chemicals were metered and injected proportionally to the diluent flow rate to provide constant concentrations. The main diluent flow was varied in response to changes in travel speed. Experimental variables of the sprayer were the control interval, the sensitivity of flow regulating valve, the tolerance of control object and the sensitivity of the injection pump system. The optimal performance of the flow control system was with an average response time of 8.5 sec at an absolute steady state of error of 0.067 L/min (0.8% of flow rate). The average response time of the injection rate was -0.53 sec and the coefficient of variation (CV) of concentration was 3.2%.

  • To determine the optimum mixing conditions of nopal jelly, samples were prepared with various compounding ratios of gelatin(16, 18, 20, 22 and 24g), sucrose(100, 120, 140, 160 and 180g), Citric acid(2, 3, 4, 5 and 6) using a central composite design. Physical and sensory evaluations were performed and considered using a response surface methodology. The optimum mixing rates which meet sensory items is gelatin 20.19g, sucrose 141.52g and citric acid 4.04g.

  • In this study, the relationship between military pilot's spatial ability and unusual attitude recovery was investigate. MRT(Mental Rotation Test) was measured with spatial ability whereas recovery time and error rates were mearsured with respect to 11 unusual attitudes. Eight fighter pilots and eight rear cockpit pilots of F-4E participated in this study. The results showed that MRT response time was significantly correlated with unusual attitude recovery time. The regression equation showed that unusual attitude recovery time was linearly related to MRT response time and could be explained by MRT response time more than 66%. In conclusion, it is recommended that a training is needed to improve the mental rotation ability in a visually restricted environments during maneuvering.

  • To understand the behavior of electron, ions and radicals on radio-frequency non-equilibrium plasma, it is necessary to know the basic information about its fundamental properties and reactions. Especially, the transient response of radio-frequency plasma has an important means of controlling selective etch rates and investigating the stability of a plasma chemical process. In this paper, we present the results of periodic steady-state behavior and transient behavior carbon Tetrafluoride(CF$_4$) discharge at 0.2 Torr in a 2 cm gap parallel-plate. After the number densities of charged particles became steady-state, the applied voltage was increased or decreased in an instant and the transient behavior of charged particles and radicals was investigated from one steady-state to the next steady state.

  • A multi-cylindrical hydraulic valve incorporating with an electro-rheological(ER) fluid is developed in this study. Field-dependent Bingham properties of the ER fluid are exploited to devise the valve system which features fast system response as well as simple mechanism. The fast response is accrued from almost instant response characteristics of the ER fluid itself, and the mechanism configuration is simplified since no nechanically moving parts are required. The material properties of the ER fluids to be utilized for modeling of the proposed valve system are firstly tested with a couette-type electroviscometer. The design and manufacturing processes are then undertaken on the basis of model parameters. The performance characteristics of the valve system are evaluated in terms of pressure variations with respect to the intensity of employed electric fields and flow rates.

  • The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum amount of four ingredients (spirulina, sugar, lemon and orange) for the preparation of spirulina madeleine using response surface methodology. Spirulina was added at a level of 3.5-6.0 g, sugar powder, at 40-60 g, while lemon and orange peel were included at a level of 0-8 g. The optimum mixing rates of spirulina powder, sugar powder, lemon and orange were 3.5, 40, 0, and 8 g for overall quality and 3.52, 54.42, 0, and 8 g for maximum score of overall organoleptic quality, respectively.
