This study was conducted to estimate groundwater demand and supply for agricultural activities in a frequent-drought area that requires implementation of optimal distribution plan utilizing the well-network system (WNS). The WNS has been considered as a viable strategic way of supplying groundwater to farmlands by connecting groundwater wells physically or virtually. The study area heavily relied on groundwater resources for irrigation up to 53% due to a lack of surface water resources. Two kinds of methods, HOMWRS software and FAO approach, were used for estimating irrigation water requirements for paddy and upland fields, respectively. During the latest 10 years (2010~2019), the water requirements was estimated to be 1,106 m3/day. The requirements notably increased to 1,121~4,004 m3/day during active farming season (May to September), which exceeded the total yield capacity of pre-existing groundwater wells (2,356 m3/day) in the area. Detailed and definite determination for groundwater demand and supply helped to determine optimal scale parameters of WNS. The WNS has achieved more balanced distribution of groundwater resources for irrigation over the study area.
This investagation was carried out by analyzing water types and measuring the environmetal isotopes (tritium and deuterium) for development of water resources and protection of ground waters from sea water intrusion. The water sample were taken monthly from April to June, 1983 from sixteen sites in the Cheju metropolitan area; three sea, three spring, and ten ground waters. The ground water in the midwest area of the city contained 20 TU of tritium and-46 per mille of deuterium, classified as the $NaHCO_3$ type of ground water, generally deep seated. The spring water and ground water in the southern part of the city contained 15 to of tritium and-39 per mile of deuterium, and appeared to the $CaHCO_3$ type of shallow ground water, easily affected 표 precipitation. The results of tritium and deuterium analyses showed that the ground water in the coastal area were not affected by sea water intrusion, although they changed from $NaHCO_3$ or $CaHCO_3$ type to NaCl type in May and June. It is concluded that the high Na and Cl content in those ground waters might come from municipal sewage. The sea water in the Yong-duam area was influenced by sping water.
Jeju Island is seeking reliable ways to secure alternative water resources using rainwater in order to conserve and manage its groundwater as sustainable water resources. The purpose of this study is to investigate the rainwater storage capability of small-size storage facilities installed at farmhouses in Uigwi and Wimi of Namwon-eup region. The rainwater outflows from the storage facilities in rain events were analyzed. The appropriate size of rainwater utilizing facilities are suggested to be about 5,800 ㎥ in Uigwi area and 4,900 ㎥ in Wimi area based on the calculation from the rainfall frequency and runoff amounts. If those facilities are put into operation in Uigwi and Wimi area, it is estimated approximately 32.3 and 11.5% of total agricultural water can be supplied by the facilities. Wimi area showed low rainwater usage because of less number of facilities relative to the size of farm areas and less intensive underground water usage. It is analyzed that more than 55% of agricultural water can be supplied by rainwater if 70 facilities without the rainwater facilities are connected to the rainwater utilizing facilities.
Distribution and stock assessment of mega-benthos living in the shallow hard bottom around Dokdo were studied in July,2000. Depth and topographical conditions have affected to the densities and biomass of benthic animals. In shallow area, less than 10 m depth, turbo shell Batillus cornutus, mussel, Mytilus corusucs were dominated and showed distinct patterns in vertical distribution. On the other hand, the area over 10m depth, it showed diverse pattern depending on topography. Turbo shell, mussel and sea cucumber Stichopus japonicus were dominated in terms of fishery resources, but abalones were rarely sampled. Stock assessment were estimated to be 6.54 M/T, 3.89 M/T and 8.92 M/T, respectively. Some parts of coastal hard bottom around Dokdo, such as the area between Dongdo and Seodo, seemed to play an Important role as nursery ground. Therefore, it is necessary to the environmental monitoring for coastal fishery managements aspects.
This study was carried out to obtain basic envirinmental information of the native area and growth characteristics at different age of Dendropanax morbifera LEV. In the southern Korea. The Dendropanax morbifera LEV. Was grown naturally at Wando, Cheju(Mt. Halla), Yecheon(Kermoon island),Sinan(Hong isand), Jindo(Mt. Chermchill) and Haenam(Mt. Taeroon), all between 30 to 450m above the sea level. The soil characterisitics of the native area had a pH of 5.3 to 5.4 with 8.4 to 9.8% content of organic matter and 18.2 to 21.3% soil moisture. Flowering starting in the middle of July begun when the trees were 6 years old. Six year old trees are 129 cm in stem height, 34 mm in stem diameter,15.4 in number of leaves with petioles 12.9 cm long. Xylem sap can be obtained from over 10 year old trees that grew well and have over 10 cm stems in diameter.
In this study used tank model and specific discharge to calculate low-flow of mountain basin and supply data that need in water resources plan. Low-flow is calculated byspecific discharge and area ratio method as resulted that calculate storage of low-flow by tank model was construed that showd all similar aspect. In judged to help in water resources plan establishment calculating low-flow using model to supplement uncertainty of observed data in that calculate of low-flow ungaged mountain area. It shows by economical and realistic plan until 12 years after development that run parallel and use economic performance analysis result valley flow and groundwater. But wide area water services and Chungju dam since 12 years onward was expose that is economic.
Water loss is one of the typical but challenging problems in water management. To reduced water loss or increase water efficiency, the pilot projects were implemented in the TTD's irrigation area. Modern soil moisture technology and local level water user training were conducted together as a mean to achieve improved water efficiency. In terms of technology, soil moisture sensors and monitoring system were used to estimate crop water requirement to reduce unnecessary irrigation. This was found to save 16.47% of irrigated water and 25.20% of irrigation supply. Further improvement of water efficiency was gained by means of local level water user training in which stakeholders were engaged in the network of communications and co-planning. The lessons learnt from the TTD pilot project was translated into good water management practices at local level.
Solar energy, which is one of renewable energy, would be the most useful resources that can be applied to making energy recycling villages without using fossil energy. This study analyzed energy potential on solar energy considering weather condition in three traditional villages and compared with energy consumption surveyed. A photovoltaic system having 3.0kWp capacity of unit module can generate 182.5%, 96.1% and 170.9% of the yearly mean consumption of electric power in Makhyun, Boojang, and Soso, respectively. A flat-plate solar collector having $2.64m^2$ area of unit module can generate warm water of $142{\ell}$/day, $89{\ell}$/day, and $173{\ell}$/day, respectively in three study villages. In Makhyun and Soso, photovoltaic power and warm water produced by solar energy were sufficient to supply required amount of electric power and warm water. However, both electric power and warm water produced by unit solar module were not sufficient in Boojang area, and so it is required to increase the module area by more than 50%. According to the results of this study, the appropriate combination of energy resources can be applied to rural green-village planning if the characteristic of energy potential for each local area is considered.
In accordance with the Cambodian government's poverty reduction policy, the Krang Ponley Water Resources Development Project was selected and has been carried out as a priority to develop the northwest areas of Phnom Penh since early 2003. Rehabilitation and new construction of water supply system such as embankments, canals and hydraulic structures are urgently needed for stable water supply, hydropower generation and flood damage reduction within the project area. The completion of the project is expected to be extremely helpful in the economic development of Cambodia as well as to improving the economic conditions of the residents in the project area.
