  • In our traditional living lives, our ancestors have been succeeded in and developed the shortage-replenishing materials to balance with the nature and supplement the condition of geography by the measures, called the BiBo, in order to be harmonized with the nature. This study is purposed to find the meaning and quality of the BiBo materials distributed throughout the agriculture village in Yeoungdong area, Gangwon province in terms of scenery perspectives. It is found that there are 56 village forests, 18 BiBo symbolic properties and 2 BiBo ponds in Yeoungdong area, Gangwon province. Among these, village forests are largely consisting of pine trees and most of them are functioned for water-entrance defender. Including these village forests, the BiBo symbolic properties are important historic and cultural resources in this area and expected to be used as the income-source of the farm village.

  • An important function of pollen aperture is believed to be regulating the water balance of the pollen when subjected to changes in humidity (Shukla, et al. 1998). It has been reported that mature barley pollen rapidly swells upon hydration and pollen tube emerges in a few minutes of germination (Anthony and Harlan, 1920). Although, there could be other factors responsible for rapid hydration of pollen. However, K is widely known for its rapid action as an osmotic regulator (Heslop-Harrison and Heslop-Harrison, 1996). In the present study, changes in K distrbution were traced during different stages of pollen maturation in barley. The existence of K at the aperture area of matured pollen may possibly play other import physiological roles. For example, K is reported to be an essential constituent of pollen germination and even required in higher concentration for pollen tube growth(Fan et al., 2001). These results suggest that there could be a possible relationship between K, located at the aperture area and rapid uptake of water by pollen.

  • This note presents the calculation of nominal area for rock core specimen under direct shear testing condition. The initial nominal area was assumed as ellipsoid, and the equations for calculating the nominal area are derived. The normalized shear displacement and normalized nominal area have an identical relationship regardless of the ellipsoid shape. New testing constants and the generalized method were suggested to calculate the decrease of the nominal area. The method was applied to calculate the direct shear testing data and the changes of result were discussed.

  • To understand the parks and leisure recreation environments of United States, some major areas are studied with the brief history of R & P area. development Those are 1) National Park System and National Park Service 2) ORRRC and BOR 3) Education of the Recreation & Park professions. Some findings of this study can be summarized as follows : 1. In United States, R & P area has been developed on the firm base of 'Publicity'. Central Park as a public park, National Park Service and Bureau of Outdoor Recreation as Federal organization have led this concept. 2. Major recreational resources - natural, cultural and historical etc-have converged into National Park System. On that, conservation and recreation use of those resources are possible in balance. 3. Establishment of the R & P area in the early stage made a great contribution to educate professionals. And this situation has been so helpful for balanced development of the area.

  • The phytosociological study was carried out to investigate the Corylopsis gotoana var. coreana community structural characteristics and soil environment of Mt. Baegun in Pochen. The vegetation data of total 9 relev$\acute{e}$s were analyzed by the Z$\ddot{u}$rich-Montpellier school's method. Three communities of Mt. Baegun were recognized : Corylopsis gotoana var. coreana - Quercus mongolica community, Corylopsis gotoana var. coreana - Carpinus laxiflora community, Corylopsis gotoana var. coreana typical community. The reanalysis to Corylopsis gotoana var. coreana community structural characteristics in south area classified 8 communities by literature. PCA analysis of Corylopsis gotoana var. coreana community distributed in the middle and southern area showed that the Corylopsis gotoana var. coreana community of the Mt. Jiri in the southern area was highly correlated with the one of Mt. Baegun in the middle area.

  • Here, we introduce porous graphene balls (PGB) showing superior electrochemical properties as supercapacitor electrode materials. PGB was fabricated via activation of graphene oxides (GO) by H2O2 and aerosol spray drying in series. Effect of activation on the morphology, specific surface area, pore volume, and electrochemical properties were investigated. As-prepared PGB showed spherical morphology containing pores, which lead to the effective prevention of restacking in graphene sheets. It also exhibited a large surface area, unique porous structures, and high electrical conductivity. The electrochemical properties of the PGB as electrode materials of supercapacitor are investigated by using aqueous KOH under symmetric two-electrode system. The highest specific capacitance of PGB was 279 F/g at 0.1 A/g. In addition, the high rate capability (93.8% retention) and long-term cycling stability (92.2%) of the PGB were found due to the facilitated ion mobility between the porous graphene layers.

  • Spatial information of snow cover and depth distribution is a key component for snowmelt runoff modeling. Wide snow cover areas can be extracted from NOAA AVHRR or Terra MODIS satellite images. In this study eight sets of annual snow cover data (1997-2006) in two mountainous watersheds (A: Chungju-Dam and B: Soyanggang-Dam) were extracted using NOAA AVHRR images. The distribution of snow depth within the Snow Cover Area (SCA) was generated using snowfall data from ground meteorological observation stations. Snow depletion characteristics for the two watersheds were analyzed snow distribution time series data. The decreased pattern of SCA can be expressed as a logarithmic function; the determination coefficients were 0.62 and 0.68 for the A and B watersheds, respectively. The SCA decreased over 70% within 10 days from the time of maximum SCA.

  • This experiment was conducted to breed the Boxthorn varieties with resistance to Anthracnose, good quality and high yielding potential in 1984 to 1986(3 years). The character of "Yu seong 1" with resistance to Anthracnose and "Yu seong 2"with good quality and high yielding potential are fellows;1, The plant type of "Yu seong 1" was semi-elect type but became to electtype after 60C" rediation and yield was decreased because of the number of flowers.2. The yield of "Yu seong 2" was the highest of all varieties.3. The quality(Extract and Betain contents) of "Yu seong 2" was the best ofall varieties and visible character was good. The results of this experinent showed that "Yu seong 1" should be promisinglines in south area because of resistance Anthracnose and "Yu seong 2" should bepromising lines in north area.hracnose and "Yu seong 2" should bepromising lines in north area.orth area.

  • The EM 120, a newly installed multibeam echo sounder on RM Onnuri, has several advantages over the previously installed SeaBeam 2000 in performance and thus data quality. The EM 120 system provides a bottom topographic map with high resolution by (1) increasing the number of beams, (2) increasing the across track swath range, (3) measuring the more accurate sound velocity within the water column, and (4) improving stabilization for pitching, rolling, and yawing of the ship. This study compares EM 120 and SeaBeam 2000 echo sounders in terms of the data quality from the same survey area in the Clarion-Clipperton Zone, NE Pacific. Our result shows that the EM 120 provides more precise topographic data than the SeaBeam 2000. Although overall trends of data, such as topographic direction and relief, are similar for both echo sounders, the water depths measured by the EM 120 are shallower than that of SeaBeam 2000 by 80 to 90 meters.
