Resonant Tank Design Considerations and Implementation of a LLC Resonant Converter with a Wide Battery Voltage Range

  • This paper illustrates resonant tank design considerations and the implementation of a LLC resonant converter with a wide battery voltage range based on the fundamental harmonic approximation (FHA) analysis. Unlike the conventional design at zero load, the parameter K (the ratio of the transformer magnetizing inductor Lm to the resonant inductor Lr) of the LLC converter in this paper is designed with two charging points, (Vo_min, Io_max1) and (Vo_max, Io_max2), according to the battery charging strategy. A 2.9kW prototype with an output voltage range of 36V to 72V dc is built to verify the design. It achieves a peak efficiency of 96%.

  • In the buck-boost DC-DC chopper which is used at a certain situation such as in factories where loads often change a lot, the switches in the device make big energy loss in operating at Buck-Boost Mode due to hard switching and are affected by lots of stresses which decrease the efficiency rate of the converter. In order to improve this problem, to decrease the loss of snubber and switching, it has been investigated that zero voltage switching mode and zero current switching mode which make the operation of switches with soft switching. For the more sophisticated and advanced device, this paper is presented the Partial Resonant Soft Switching Mode Power Converter which is adapted the power converter having the partial resonant soft switching mode, that makes switches operate when the resonant current or voltage becomes zero by making the resonant circuit partially at turning on and off of the switches with suitable layout of the resonant elements and switch elements in the converter. Also, this paper includes the analysis and simulation of the Partial Resonant type Buck-Boost Chopper.

  • In this paper a three-phase ac-to-dc resonant converter with high input power factor and isolated output is proposed. To improve the input power factor of the converter, high frequency current is injected into the input of the three-phase diode bridge rectifier. It is injected through an impedance network consisting of a series of L-C branches from the output of the high frequency three-phase inverter. A narrow switching frequency variation is required to regulate the output voltage. A design example with different design curves is illustrated along with the component ratings. Experimental verification of the converter is performed on a prototype of 3 kW, 1000 V output, operating above 300 kHz. Experimental results confirm the concept of the proposed converter. Narrow switching frequency variation is required to regulate the output voltage.

Resonant Parametric Perturbation Method to Control Chaos in Current Mode Controlled DC-DC Buck-Boost Converter

  • Resonant parametric perturbation (RPP) method is an effective non-feedback method for controlling chaos. In this paper, the above method is applied for the current programmed buck-boost dc-dc converter which exhibits chaotic for wide parameter variations. The different possible operating regimes leading to chaotic operation of the current mode controlled buck-boost converter is discussed and the control of chaos by RPP method is demonstrated through computer simulations and experimental studies. The converter is stabilized to period 1 operation practically.

  • A capacitor common connected LLC resonant converter with auxiliary switches for a wide output voltage control range is presented in this paper. The proposed converter can be controlled in two ways to achieve a wide output voltage control range of Vo-3Vo. The first control method is performed through pulse width modulation of the auxiliary switches and primary switching devices. The second control method is conducted through frequency modulation of the primary switching devices configured to operate in full-bridge switching modes, when the auxiliary switches are turned off. The feasibility of the proposed converter is verified by the experimental results of a 5 kW prototype.

  • Conventionally, for transferring the primary power to the secondary one, the high frequency series resonant converter has been widely used for the contactless power supply system. However, the high frequency series resonant converter has the disadvantages such as the low efficiency, the high voltage gain characteristics and deviation of the phase angle in the overall load range. To improve this disadvantages, In this paper, the characteristics of the high efficiency and unit voltage gain as well as in-phase are revealed in the proposed three-level LCLC (Inductor-Capacitor- Inductor-Capacitor) resonant converter. The results are verified on the simulation based on the theoretical analysis and the 4kW experimental Prototype.

  • LLC resonant converter is used to control laser power density in ruby laser power supply. Zero voltage switching(ZVS) is implemented to minimize the switching loss by the LLC resonant converter. Laser output power is investigated and experimented by changing the output current. That current is controled by the charging voltage of capacitor. From those results, we obtained the maximum laser output of 1.94J at the discharge current of 860A and the pulse repetition rate of 1Hz.

  • In this paper, the 170W LLC half bridge DC-DC converter is designed for the lighting management system. The power conversion circuit consists of PFC and isolated LLC resonant converter. The topology of LLC half bridge resonant converter provides ZVS characteristic. And the stresses of voltage and current is smaller than that of the general resonant converters. So we can expect the higher efficiency. The optimal conditions for high efficiency were investigated through by experiment.

  • To improve the efficiency characteristics in the resonant converter using the contact-less power supply with the large air-gap and the long primary winding, this paper suggests the three-level series-parallel resonant converter(SPRC). The voltage gain characteristics of the proposed converter have the unit gain in a resonance frequency point of the series and parallel, and input voltage and current in the primary of SPRC are always In phase for the all equivalent load resistance because of the parallel resonant tank of the high impedance. The results are verified on the simulation based on the theoretical analysis and the 4kW experimental prototype.
