  • Physical properties of PVB [Poly(vinyl butyral)] polymer are strongly correlated with water contents in the polymer. Thus dynamics of PVB containing 10~50(w/w) % of water were studied by $^{13}$ C CP/MAS/DD over the temperature range 293K -348K. From the Peak area, line width, chemical shift, and relaxation times ( $T_{1}$ $T_{1p}$) measured at 9.4 T, it was deduced that water facilitates molecular dynamics of the PVB molecules overall including conformational exchange of the racemic and meso butyaldehyde rings in the PVB. However, the influence of water was not linear to the amount of water in the PVB samples. It is suggested that water up to 30 w/w % of the sample is closely bound to the PVB polymer and water relatively free from the PVB polymer starts to appear when water is added more than 30 w/w %.%.

  • Vibrations of the tower structures of 750kW and 6kW wind turbines(WT) are investigated by measurement and analysis. Acceleration responses of the WT towers under various operation condition are monitored in real time by the remote monitoring system using LabVIEW. Using the monitoring system, resonance condition of the tower structures is diagnosed with the wind speed data within the operating speed range. To predict the tower resonance frequency, 750 kW tower is modeled as an equivalent beam with a lumped mass and Rayleigh energy method is applied. For 6 kW WT, Rayleigh-Ritz analysis is carried out on the tower-cable coupled system. Calculated tower bending frequency is in good agreement with the measured value. Using the analysis model, parametric study is available in order to prevent the severe resonance.

  • This paper presents the vibration problem of the Engine Casing (E/C) "B" deck in the handymax vessel and describes a method to avoid resonance. The first ship of the series did not have any vibration issue on the "B" deck. However, resonance condition occurred when additional machine was installed to the following vessels. To understand the dynamic characteristics of the deck, the normal mode analysis and impact test have been performed. Within the normal operating range of the vessel, the $1^{st}$ natural frequency of the E/C "B" deck is close to the main engine's $6^{th}$ order. Based on these analysis, a reinforcement on the deck was suggested and it proved to be effective. Since actual impact test after the reinforcement also confirmed the resonance avoidance.

  • Infrared-Radio frequency double resonance (IRRFDR) and Infrared-Microwave double resonance (IRMWDR) spectroscopy have been used to probe a level of A symmetry for $CD_{3}$OH. Double resonance spectra of $CD_{3}$OH have been investigated over the range of 940 to 1020 $cm ^{-1}$ . Twenty K-type doublet transitions have been observed in both the radio frequency region, which covers 50 MHz to 1 GHz, and the microwave region, which covers 8 GHz to 12 GHz. The results propose new assignments of infrared (IR) absorption transitions and far-infrared (FIR) laser emission lines. These involve torsional excited levels and CO stretch states. Measurements of the A state splitting have permitted the determination of the asymmetry splitting parameters $S^{o}$(n, K) and $^{co}$ (n, K) for (n, K)=(0.3) and (1.3)

  • Acromegaly is a rare endocrine disorder caused by excessive secretion of the growth hormone. There is a wide range of clinical manifestations from somatic symptoms to respiratory or cardiac failure. Among them, cardiovascular involvement is a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. There are relatively few cases reporting cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) findings of cardiomyopathy in patients with acromegaly. Thus, we report a case of acromegaly showing dilated cardiomyopathy focusing on the findings of CMR.

  • The complex permeability dispersions and the microwave absorbing phenomena are investigated in ferrite microwave absorber. The complex permeability of NiZn ferrite, NiZnCo ferrite, and Y-type hexagonal ferrite were measured in 200MHz-14GHz range. Two types of resonances, the domain wall and the spin rotational resonance, were observed. With a ferrite particle with a diameter of about $1\;\mu\textrm{m}$, only spin rotational resonance were observed. The theoretical matching frequency is determined by plotting the measured complex permeability locus on the impedance matching solution map. One or two impedance matching phenomena are observed in the ferrite absorbers according to their complex permeability loci on the impedance matching solution map. The first matching frequency, found in the ferrite-rubber composites, which was higher than that of spin rotational resonance, increased with spin rotational resonance frequency.

  • In this paper, we proposed a high frequency equivalent circuit considering parasitic impedance components for differential noise analysis on the input stage during DC-DC buck converter switching operation. Based on the proposed equivalent circuit model, we presented a method to measure parasitic impedance parameters included in DC bus plate, IGBT, and PCB track using the gain phase method of a network analyzer. In order to verify the validity of this model, a DC-DC prototype consisting of a buck converter, a signal analyzer, and a LISN device, and then resonance frequency was measured in the frequency range between 150 kHz and 30 MHz. The validity of the parasitic impedance measurement method and the proposed equivalent model is verified by deriving that the measured resonance frequency and the resonance frequency of the proposed high frequency equivalent model are the same.

  • The nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and atomic magnetic resonance (AMR) plays a fundamental role in achieving a high accuracy of magnetic field measurements. Magnetic field unit (T) was realized based on the shielded proton gyromagnetic ratio (${\gamma}^{\prime}_P$), helium-4 gyromagnetic ratio (${\gamma}_{4He}$) and related techniques. The magnetic field standard system has been disseminated by the NMR magnetometer and electromagnet, a Helmholtz coil system, and AMR magnetometer in the nonmagnetic laboratory. A magnetic field standard below 1 mT has been developed by using Cs and Cs- $^4He$ AMR with automatic compensation of an external magnetic field noise. The standards serve for the calibration of magnetometers and support the test of sensors and materials in the range from $5{\mu}T$ to 2.0 T with (1 to 50) ${\mu}T/T$ uncertainty (k=2).

  • This paper proposes a controller design method for suppressing the resonance generated in the slave motor in the middle and low speed operation range, according to the load and parameter differences between two motors, during parallel operation using the master and slave method that controls two surface permanent magnet synchronous motors connected in parallel by a single inverter. The proposed resonance suppression controller is directly obtained by analyzing the resonance characteristics, using the lead controller method. Therefore, it is possible to fundamentally reduce trial and error to set the controller gain. In addition, because the proposed resonance suppression controller was designed as a lead controller, the stability region of the system increased owing to the added zero point, making the system robust with respect to parametric variations. Simulations and experiments confirmed the usefulness of the proposed method and the system's robustness with respect to parametric variations.

  • To maximize power generation and reduce the construction cost of a commercial utility-grade wind turbine, the size of the wind turbine should be large. The initial design of the 12 MW University of Ulsan(UOU) Floating Offshore Wind Turbine(FOWT) was carried out based on the 5 MW National Renewable Energy Laboratory(NREL) offshore wind turbine model. The existing 5 MW NREL offshore wind turbines have been expanded to 12 MW UOU FOWT using the geometric law of similarity and then redesigned for each factor. The resonance of the tower is the most important dynamic responses of a wind turbine, and it should be designed by avoiding resonance due to cyclic load during turbine operations. The natural frequency of the tower needs to avoid being within the frequency range corresponding to the rotational speed of the blades, 1P, and the blade passing frequency, 3P. To avoid resonance, vibration can be reduced by modifying the stiffness or mass. The direct expansion of the 5 MW wind turbine support structure caused a resonance problem with the tower of the 12 MW FOWT and the tower length and diameter was adjusted to avoid a match of the first natural frequency and 3P excitation of the tower.
