25노트급 활주형 어선의 기본선형 개발에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Hull Form Development of the 25 Knots Class Planing Hull Form Fishing Boat)

  • A series of tests of 5 model ships, selected from a data survey of 10 Gross Tonnage actual fishing boats, were performed in two circulating water channels (Chosun University in Korea and WJFEL in Japan), in order to develop the basic hull form of a 25 knots-class fishing boat. Resistance tests, trim and sinkage measurements and wave pattern observations etc., were included in each I1wdel test, and the model test results were compared and analyzed. The result was as follows: P-4 hull form ship changed into Deep V type bow is the best hull form with good performance, especially with regard to ship's resistance efficiency.

A damage mechanics based random-aggregate mesoscale model for concrete fracture and size effect analysis

  • This study presents a random-aggregate mesoscale model integrating the random distribution of the coarse aggerates and the damage mechanics of the mortar and interfacial transition zone (ITZ). This mesoscale model can generate the random distribution of the coarse aggregates according to the prescribed particle size distribution which enables the automation of the current methodology with different coarse aggregates' distribution. The main innovation of this work is to propose the "correction factor" to eliminate the dimensionally dependent mesh sensitivity of the concrete damaged plasticity (CDP) model. After implementing the correction factor through the user-defined subroutine in the randomly meshed mesoscale model, the predicted fracture resistance is in good agreement with the average experimental results of a series of geometrically similar single-edge-notched beams (SENB) concrete specimens. The simulated cracking pattern is also more realistic than the conventional concrete material models. The proposed random-aggregate mesoscale model hence demonstrates its validity in the application of concrete fracture failure and statistical size effect analysis.

  • We have investigated the microwave properties of a high-T$_c$. superconducting Josephson junction by Shapiro step measurements. A Josephson junction was fabricated on the bicrystal MgO substrate using pulsed laser deposition method. We have measured Shapiro steps in the I-V characteristics under the irradiation of 1.36 cm wavelength up to 45 K and found inclined current steps above 50 K. In order to understand these results, we introduced an additional resistance connected in series to RSJ model. Using this modified RSJ model, we could explain the inclined current steps as a result of superposition of the junction and an additional resistance above certain temperatures. Also, we presented the received power of the Josephson junction above 50 K.

Investigation of rotational characteristics of column 'PINNED' bases of steel portal frames

  • Most of the portal frames are designed these days by the application of plastic analysis, with the normal assumption being made that the column bases are pinned. However, the couple produced by the compression action of the inner column flange and the tension in the holding down bolts will inevitably generate some moment resistance and rotational stiffness. Full-scale portal frame tests conducted during a previous research program had suggested that this moment can be as much as 20% of the moment of resistance of the column. The size of this moment of resistance is particularly important for the design of the tensile capacity of the holding down bolts and also the bearing resistance of the foundation. The present research program is aiming at defining this moment of resistance in simple design terms so that it could be included in the design of the frame. The investigation also included the study of the semi-rigid behaviour of the column base/foundation, which, to a certain extent, affects the overall loading capacity and stiffness of the portal frames. A series of column bases with various details were tested and were used to calibrate a finite element model which is able to simulate the action of the holding down bolts, the effect of the concrete foundation and the deformation of the base plate.

  • We have used ITO/$Alq_3$/Al structure to study complex impedance in $Alq_3$ based organic light emitting diode. Equivalent circuit was analyzed in a device structure of ITO/$Alq_3$/Al by varying the thickness of $Alq_3$ layer from 60 to 400nm. The impedance results can be fitted using equivalent circuit model of parallel combination resistance $R_p$ and capacitance $C_p$ with a small series resistance $R_s$.

Hydrodynamic Performance of a 2,500-ton Class Trimaran

  • This paper describes the powering, seakeeping and maneuvering performances for a 2,500-ton class trimaran. Influence of the side-hull forms and location of those in longitudinal and transverse direction to resistance performance was systematically investigated by a series of model tests and numerical calculations. It was found that the longitudinal location of side-hulls was the most influential design parameter to the resistance performance of the trimaran and the optimum location of side-hull depends on ship speeds. When the side-hull stem is located near the primary wave hollow generated by the main hull, the trimaran shows the best resistance performance. Powering performance of the trimaran is superior to those of similar mono-hull ships. Seakeeping model tests for the trimaran were executed and the results were compared with the theoretical results of a similar mono-hull ship. Generally speaking, seakeeping performance of the trimaran is superior to that of a mono-hull ship. In particular, pitching and rolling performance of the trimaran is excellent, which is due to the increased length and breadth. Maneuvering model tests using a HPMM equipment were executed to evaluate the maneuvering performance of the trimaran. Maneuvering simulation was performed using the maneuvering coefficients from the model tests. The results show that the control ability of heading angle and the direction keeping stability of the trimaran is excellent, even though the turning performance is rather worse compared to those of a similar mono-hull ship.

  • This paper describes a circuit based simulation model for a Photovoltaic(PV) cell in order to estimate the electrical behavior of the solar cell module with changes of environmental parameters such as shunt resistance, series resistance, temperature and irradiance. An accurate I-V model of PV module is presented based on the Shockley diode model. The general model was implemented on Matlab scrip file, and used irradiance and temperature as variables and outputs of the I-V characteristic. A typical PV module was used for the evaluation, and results was compared with reference taken directly from the manufacturer's published curves leading to excellent agrement with the theoretical prediction.

LiPB Battery SOC Estimation Using Extended Kalman Filter Improved with Variation of Single Dominant Parameter

  • This paper proposes the State-of-charge (SOC) estimator of a LiPB Battery using the Extended Kalman Filter (EKF). EKF can work properly only with an accurate model. Therefore, the high accuracy electrical battery model for EKF state is discussed in this paper, which is focused on high-capacity LiPB batteries. The battery model is extracted from a single cell of LiPB 40Ah, 3.7V. The dynamic behavior of single cell battery is modeled using a bulk capacitance, two series RC networks, and a series resistance. The bulk capacitance voltage represents the Open Circuit Voltage (OCV) of battery and other components represent the transient response of battery voltage. The experimental results show the strong relationship between OCV and SOC without any dependency on the current rates. Therefore, EKF is proposed to work by estimating OCV, and then is converted it to SOC. EKF is tested with the experimental data. To increase the estimation accuracy, EKF is improved with a single dominant varying parameter of bulk capacitance which follows the SOC value. Full region of SOC test is done to verify the effectiveness of EKF algorithm. The test results show the error of estimation can be reduced up to max 5%SOC.

  • Photovoltaic systems normally use a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) technique to continuously deliver the highest possible power to the load when variations in the insolation and temperature occur. A simple method of tracking the maximum power points (MPPs) and forcing the boost converter system to operate close to these points is presented through deriving small-signal model and transfer function of boost converter. This paper aims at modeling boost converter including equivalent series resistance of input reservoir capacitor by state-space-averaging method. In the future, properly designed controller for compensation will be constructed for maximum photovoltaic power tracking control.

천수 영역에서의 Series 60 선형에 대한 실험적 고찰 (An Experimental Study on the Shallow Water Effect on Series 60 Hull Form)

  • 연안항로용 선박에 있어서 수심은 선박의 흘수와 속도에 제한을 주는 요소로 작용함으로써, 설계에 있어서 상당히 중요한 요소라 할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 제한수심에 따른 선박의 저항성능의 변화를 알기 위해, 천수장비를 이용하여 각기 다른 수심에서 선박의 저항 및 트림, 침하를 측정하였다. 천수영향에 대한 기초적 연구단계로서, 본 연구에서는 Series60($C_B=0.6$) 선형을 대상 선형으로 선정하였다. 실험은 기존의 실험 자료와 동일한 수심조건을 주어 그 결과를 비교하였다. 수심조건은 각각 모형선 수선간장의 10, 15, 20, 25% 로 하였다.
