  • The use of flowable composite resins as liners in class II packable composite resins has been suggested by some manufacturers. However, the contributions of this technique are unproven. Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare the gingival microleakage in class II packable composite restorations with or without the use of flowable composite resins as liners.. Method: Slot cavities were prepared on both proximals of 80 extracted human molars and randomly assigned to 8 groups of 20 each.(중략)

  • Toughening of epoxy resins for improvement of crack resistance has been the subject of intense research interest during the last two decades. Epoxy resins are successfully toughened by blending with a suitable liquid rubber, which initially remains miscible with epoxy and undergoes a phase separation in the course of curing that leads to the formation of a two-phase microstructure, or by directly blending preformed rubbery particle. Unlike the situation for thermoplastics, physical blending is not successful for toughening epoxy resins. Recent advances in the development of various functionalized liquid rubber-based toughening agents and core-shell particles are discussed critically in this review.

  • Vulcanized rubber containing three kinds of oligomeric resins such as cashew resin, t-octylphenol formaldehyde resin and terpene modified wood rosin has been characterized by simultaneous pyrolysis methylation-gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (SPM-GC/MS). After methylation by the SPM method using tetramethylammonium hydroxide, the methylated pyrolyzates of the corresponding resins were detected with higher sensitivity than underivatized pyrolyzates without any interferences from other ingredients of vulcanized rubber.

  • The ion exchange resins have been synthesized from chlormethyl styrene-1,4-divinyl benzene(DVB) with 1%, 5%, and 10%-crosslinking and macrocyclic ligand of cryptand type by copolymerization method and the adsorption characteristics of uranium(VI), lead(II) and holmium(III) ions have been investigated in various experimental conditions. The correlation between the adsorption characteristics of rare earths and transition metal on the resins and stability constants of complexes with macrocyclic ligand have been examined. The $UO_2^{2+}$ aqueous solutions are not adsorbed on the resins below pH 3.0, but the power of adsorption of $UO_2^{2+}$ increased rapidly above pH 4.0. The adsorption power was in the order of 1%, 10%, and 5%-crosslinked resin, but adsorptive characteristics of resins decreased in proportion to the order of dielectric constants of solvents.

  • 1, 1-diamino-3, 3, 5, 5-tetrachlorocyclotriphosphazene, 1, 1-diami-no3, 3, 5, 5-tetra-(p-bromophenoxy)cyclotriphosphazene, and 1, 1-diamino-3, 3, 5, 5-tetra-(p-chlorophenoxy) cyclotri-phosphazene(ACPP) was prepared from hexachlorocyclotriphosphazene and used for the curing agent of bisphenol A type epoxy resin and phenol novolak. The resistance to chemicals and water of the cured epoxy resins were examined by DMTA and compared with those of the epoxy rosins cured with phosphazene derivatives and 4, 4'-diaminodiphenylmethane. The effect of the curing agent on resistance to chemicals and water of the cured epoxy resins were investigated. The epoxy resins cured with 1, 1-diamino-3, 3, 5, 5-tetrachlorocyclotriphosphazene and 1, 1- diamino-3, 3, 5, 5-tetra- (p-bromophenoxy)cyclotriphosphazene showed superior resistance to chemicals and water to those of 1, 1-diamino-3, 3, 5, 5-tetra- (p-chlorophenoxy)cyclotriphosphazene and 4, 4'-diaminodiphenylmethane. It is an effective curing agent for epoxy resins to enhance the resistance to chemicals, water and tome proofing.

  • The Tribological evaluation of commercial dental composite resins containing prepolymerized particle fillers was investigated. Composite resins such as Metafil, Silux Plus, Heliomolar, and Palfique Estelite were selected as specimens. In the wear tests, a ball-on-flat wear test method was used. The friction coefficient of Metafil was quite high. The wear resistance of Silux Plus and Palfique Estelite was better than that of Metafil and Heliomolar under the same experimental conditions. The main wear mechanism of the composite resins containing prepolymerized particle fillers was abrasive wear caused by the brittle fracture of the prepolymerized particles and the debonding of the filler and the matrix.

  • Chloromethylated polystyrene resins supported diethylenetriamine of linear and claw types have been prepared by the reaction of diethylenetriamine with chloromethylated polystyrene. The kinetics of adsorption of transition metal ions on polystyrene resins were measured by the limited-bath technique. This paper reports the results of the diffusion coefficients, entropies of activation, and free energies of activation. The ratedetermining step of the adsorption of transition metals on the resins is a process of diffusion through the particles.

  • Zein protein is one of the best biopolymer for edible film making and polyols are convenient plasticizers for biopolymers. Sorbitol, glycerol and manitol at three levels (0.5, 0.7, 1g/g of zein) were used as plasticizers. Rheological and thermal properties of zein resins were studied for determining their plasticization effectiveness. Sorbitol and glycerol had good plasticizing effects and could decrease viscoelastic modulus of zein resins considerably, but manitol was not as effective as them. Effects of plasticizers on thermal properties of resins were investigated by DSC at -100 to $150^{\circ}C$. No crystallization and melting peaks related to zein resin and plasticizers were observed. Thermograms showed that polyolic plasticizers and zein resin remained a homogeneous material throughout the cooling and heating cycles.
