Influence of Hydrolytic Degradation on the Morphology of Cured Urea-Formaldehyde Resins of Different Formaldehyde/Urea Mole Ratios

  • In an effort to understand the hydrolytic degradation process of cured urea-formaldehyde (UF) resins responsible for the formaldehyde emission of wood-based composite panels, this study analyzed the influence of acid hydrolysis on the morphology of cured UF resins with different formaldehyde/urea (F/U) mole ratios such as 1.6, 1.4, 1.2 and 1.0. Field emission-scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) was employed to observe both exterior and fracture surfaces on thin films of cured UF resins before and after the etching with hydrochloric acid as a simulation of the hydrolytic degradation process. FE-SEM images showed that the exterior surface of cured UF resin with the F/U mole ratio of 1.0 had spherical structures after the acid hydrolysis while the other cured UF resins were not the case. However, the fracture surface observation showed that all the samples possessed spherical structures in the cured state of UF resins although their occurrence and size decreased as the F/U mole ratio increased. For the first time, we found the spherical structures in cured UF resins of higher F/U mole ratio of 1.4. After the acid hydrolysis, the spherical structures became a much predominant at the fracture surface. These results indicated that the spherical structures in cured UF resinswere much more resistant to the hydrolytic degradation by the acid than amorphous region.

변성전분과 폴리에틸렌 혼합물의 물성 및 분해성 평가 (Mechanical Properties and Degradability of Modified Starch and Polyethylene Blends)

  • Starch was modified with epichlorohydrin(ECH) to improve the miscibility with LDPE and LLDPE. Native starch or epichlorohydrin treated starch was mixed with grycerol and LDPE/LLDPE resin using a kneader and extruded using a single screw extruder to make pallets. The pallets were compression-molded at 145 into composite boards to evaluate their color, oxygen permeation, mechanical and thermal properties, and degradability under UV irradiation. Sheets with epichlorohydrin treated starch generally showed higher L-value than that of native starch blend sheets. The hunter b-values in both native starch blends and epichlorohydrin treated starch blends increased with Increasing starch contents. Tensile strength and percent elongation of sheets decreased with increasing starch contents. Tensile strength and percent elongation of sheets decreased with increasing starch contents. The degradability of blends under UV radiation increased with increasing starch contents in both blend types. The results represents that crosslinking of starch with epichlorohydrin may be a good method to improve miscibility of starch with petroleum-based materials.

Thermal Properties of DGEBHA/MDA/SN/zeolite System Degraded by Moisture Absorption

  • Cured epoxy resins are extensively used for the electrical insulation in high-voltage equipments. The bisphenol A-based epoxy resins lured with azine show, especially, good thermal properties and mechanical resistances. For the technical and economic reasons, varing amount of inorganic fillers are added to endow the required special properties. In the large generators and motors of power plants, epoxy insulation is disclosed to the harsh conditions like the superheated steam and abrupt temperature variation. Hygrothermal aging at elevated temperatures tends to induce degradation in epoxy resins. To predict the effect of this degradation in DGEBA/MDA/SN/zeolite system, we proceeded the forced moisture absorption experiment using the autoclave. The thermal properties of the untreated and treated specimens were analyzed by DSC and TGA under the nitrogen flowing condition. The moisture absorption results showed a weight increase during hygrothermal aging at 1207. At the initial aging period, the system leaded to more or less postcuring but more prolonged environmental aging leaded the discoloration of specimen and lowering the T$_{g}$./.

S여대생(女大生)의 구강보건 실태조사 (A STUDY ON THE DENTAL HEALTH STATUS OF A COLLEGE GIRL STUDENTS)

  • The author conducted a dental survey of a college girl students and compared with that of E college students 10 years ago which based on the same criteria. The items of this survey included the prevalence of dental caries, DMFT and the kinds of restored material. All college students 1,414 were examined in May 1978, with the recommended criteria and method of W.H.O.. Among them, the data of 1,393 were analyzed for this study. The following results were obtained: 1. The average number of present teeth were 28.97${\pm}$1.64. 2. The prevalence of dental caries was 84.92% and D.M.F. index was 15.51. Average D.M.F. teeth were 4.49${\pm}$3.69. 3. The average number of decayed (D) teeth were 2.09${\pm}$2.16. 4.30% of the present decayed teeth was secondary decay, and 2.44% of the decayed teeth was indicated for extraction. 4. The average number of missing(M) teeth were 0.32${\pm}$0.79. It included 8.56% of root fragements. 5. Average number of filled(F) teeth were 2.09${\pm}$3.17. F-ratio of this group was 46.45%. The analysis revealed 50.88% of amalgam alloy, 31.41% of gold inlays, and 1.20%, the least among the filling materials, silicate cement or composite resin. 6. While the prosthodontic treatment, such as crown and bridge has reduced than that of 10 years ago, the fillings and inlays as the conservative means has increased.

  • The production of carbon fiber reinforced thermoplastics(CFRTP) parts using an injection/compression molding process that differs from the conventionally used fabrication methods was investigated Before the application of composite molding in the injection/compression molding process, a simple compression molding experiment was performed using a hydraulic press machine to determine the characteristics of resin impregnation and to obtain a basic physical property data for the CFRTP. Based on these results, injection/compression molded specimens were manufactured and an additional insert/over molding process was applied to improve the impregnation rate of the molded specimens. The results demonstrated that the tensile strength of the molded parts using the faster injection/compression process was similar to that of a hydraulic press molded product.

탄소나노튜브로 표면처리 된 탄소섬유/에폭시 수지 복합재료의 기계적 특성 연구 (A Study of Mechanical Interfacial Properties of Carbon Nanotube on Carbon Fiber/Epoxy Resin Composites)

  • In this work, the grow of carbon nanotube (CNT) on carbon fiber was introduced on PAN-based carbon fibers for the enhancement of mechanical interfacial strength of carbon fibers-reinforced composites. The surface properties of carbon fibers were determined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and mechanical interfacial properties of the composites were studied by interlaminar shear strength (ILSS). From the results, it was found that the mechanical interfacial properties of CNT-carbon fibers-reinforced composites (CNT-CFRPs) enhanced with decreasing the CNT content. The excessive CNT content can lead the failure due to the interfacial separation between fibers and matrices in this system. In conclusion, the optimum CNT content on carbon fiber surfaces can be a key factor to determine the mechanical interfacial properties of the CNT-CFRPs.

Effective Management of Multiple Non-carious Cervical Lesions with Gingival Recession and Dentin Hypersensitivity: Two Cases Report of Combined Restorative and Periodontal Approach

  • Managing multiple non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) with gingival recession and dentin hypersensitivity can be challenging. Herein, we present two cases of successful treatment procedure for multiple NCCLs with gingival recession and dentin hypersensitivity using an envelope coronally advanced flap with CTG and composite resin restoration. Through the combined approach of restorative and periodontal procedure, both patients showed adequate extent of gingival coverage and esthetic outcome based on the Modified Root Coverage Esthetic Score (MRES) at 6 months postoperatively. Also, dentin hypersensitivity was reduced effectively during the follow up period. Although the pocket depth slightly increased in patient 1, possibly due to the amount of restoration located sub-gingivally, pocket depth remained within 3 mm. This suggest that re-establishing the clinical CEJ and performing partial restoration is advantageous for periodontal tissue and is expected to contribute to maintain gingival height in the long term. These case reports emphasize the efficacy of the combined approach for treating multiple NCCLs with gingival recession and dentin hypersensitivity, highlighting the importance of careful restoration planning for optimal clinical and aesthetic outcomes.

에폭시 수지/무기물 첨가제 복합체의 열팽창계수 조절 및 석조문화재의 응용 (Tuning Thermal Expansion Coefficient of Composites Containing Epoxy Resin/Inorganic Additives for Stone Conservation)

  • 석조문화재에 사용되는 에폭시 수지에 열팽창계수가 낮은 무기물을 첨가하여, 석재와 비슷한 수준으로의 열팽창계수 조절 및 무기물 첨가에 따른 기계적 변화를 연구하였다. 사용된 에폭시 주제는 hydrogenated bisphenol A (HBA), 경화제로는 상온에서 경화가 가능한 Isophoronediamine (IPDA), 점도 조절을 위한 반응성 희석제로는 difunctional polyglycidyl epoxide (DPE)를 선정하였으며 열팽창계수를 조절하기 위한 무기물 첨가제는 talc와 fused silica 를 사용하였다. 에폭시 수지와 희석제의 함량에 따라 점도를, 에폭시 수지와 무기물 첨가제의 부피비에 따른 열팽창계수를 측정하여 물리 화학적 물성 개선 가능성을 확인하였으며 인장강도, 전단강도 측정을 통하여 기계적 성능을 비교하였다. 연구결과 에폭시 수지에 첨가될 무기물 첨가제의 함량이 커질수록 열팽창 계수가 감소할 뿐만 아니라, 굴곡강도가 감소하고 전단 강도는 증가하는 특성이 나타났으며, fused silica를 사용한 에폭시 수지가 talc를 사용한 제품군에 비해 열팽창계수가 크게 감소하여 석재와 비슷한 수준으로 조절 가능함을 확인하였다.

고투명도 지르코니아의 두께 및 하부 배경에 따른 색조 차단 효과 (Effects of thickness and background on the masking ability of high-trasnlucent zirconias)

  • 목적: 이 연구의 목적은 고투명도 3종류의 지르코니아의 두께 및 하부 배경에 따른 색조 차단 효과를 비교, 평가하는 것이다. 연구 재료 및 방법: 3 종류의 고투명도 지르코니아(Ceramill zolid fx white, Ceramill zolid ht+ white, Ceramill zolid ht+ preshade A2)를 각각 CAD/CAM 방식으로 직경 10 mm의 원판 형태의 4가지 두께(0.6 mm, 1.0 mm, 1.5 mm, 2.0 mm)로 10개씩 시편을 제작하였다. 하부 배경은 직경 10 mm, 두께 10 mm로 A1, A2, A3 레진 하부 배경, 청색의 코어 레진 하부 배경, Ni-Cr 합금 하부 배경을 제작하였으며, 추가로 분광 광도계 제조사에서 제공하는 검정색 및 흰색 하부 배경을 사용하였다. 지르코니아 시편과 기준 배경을 접착제없이 겹쳐 분광 광도계로 L, a*, b* 값을 측정하고 다른 하부 배경과의 ΔE 값을 계산하였다. 계산된 평균 ΔE 값을 인지 한계 1.0과 허용 한계 3.7 값을 기준으로 색조 차단 효과를 비교하였다. 통계적 유의성 검증을 위해 비모수 검정인 Kruskal-Wallis 검정을 시행하였다(α = 0.05). 결과: 지르코니아 종류, 하부 배경 및 두께 변화에 따른 평균 ΔE 값의 유의한 차이를 보였다(P = 0.000). 결론: 본 연구 결과에 의하면, 색조를 가지는 고투명도 지르코니아는 청색 레진 코어를 제외한 치아, 복합레진 및 지대주상에 수복될 때 원하는 지르코니아 색조를 얻을 수 있다.

에폭시 복합수지의 내충격성을 향상을 위한 PPG 기반 우레탄 변성 에폭시 합성 및 특성 분석 (Synthesis and characterization of PPG-based urethane-modified epoxy resin for enhancing impact resistance of epoxy composite resin)

  • 에폭시 수지는 높은 유리전이 온도 (Tg; glass transition temperature)와 우수한 물성에도 불구하고 높은 가교밀도로 인해 순간적인 충격에 쉽게 파괴되는 단점을 가지고 있다. 이를 보완하기 위해 본 연구에서는 폴리프로필렌 글리콜 (PPG; poly(propylene glycol)) 구조 기반의 diamine 물질인 Jeffamine D 2000과 프로필렌 카보네이트 (PC; propylene carbonate)의 개환중합으로 폴리올을 합성하고 이를 이용하여 우레탄 변성 에폭시를 합성하였다. 합성한 우레탄 변성 에폭시의 특성은 FT-IR, 1H-NMR로 확인하였고 접착제로서 내충격성 향상 정도를 확인하기 위해 시중에서 사용되고 있는 비스페놀계 에폭시인 DGEBA (diglycidyl ether bisphenol A)와 경화제, 경화촉진제와 배합하여 우레탄 변성 에폭시 접착제를 만들고 전단강도, 인장강도, 충격강도 실험을 통해 우레탄 변성 에폭시의 특성을 분석하였다. 그 결과 DGEBA와 우레탄 변성 에폭시의 비율이 8:2 일 때, 접착제 내 수소결합에 의한 최적의 시너지 효과로 향상된 기계적 물성을 달성할 수 있었다.
