Change of transmission characteristics of FSSs in hybrid composites due to residual stresses

  • The frequency selective surface (FSS) embedded hybrid composite materials have been developed to provide excellent mechanical and specific electromagnetic properties. Radar absorbing structures (RASs) are an example material that provides both radar absorbing properties and structural characteristics. The absorbing efficiency of an RAS can be improved using selected materials having special absorptive properties and structural characteristics and can be in the form of multi-layers or have a certain stacking sequence. However, residual stresses occur in FSS embedded composite structures after co-curing due to a mismatch between the coefficients of thermal expansion of the FSS and the composite material. In this study, to develop an RAS, the thermal residual stresses of FSS embedded composite structures were analyzed using finite element analysis, considering the effect of stacking sequence of composite laminates with square loop (SL) and double square loop (DSL) FSS patterns. The FSS radar absorbing efficiency was measured in the K-band frequency range of 21.6 GHz. Residual stress leads to a change in the deformation of the FSS pattern. Using these results, the effect of transmission characteristics with respect to the deformation on FSS pattern was analyzed using an FSS Simulator.

  • 분산 제어 (DM; dispersion management)와 광 위상 공액기 (OPC; optical phase conjugator)가 적용된 광전송 링크에서 송신단부터 OPC까지 중계 구간이 증가할수록 단일 모드 광섬유 (SMF; single mode fiber)의 길이와 중계 구간 당 잉여 분산 (RDPS; residual dispersion per span)은 감소하고, OPC부터 수신단까지는 중계 구간이 증가할수록 SMF 길이와 RDPS가 증가하는 분포에서 인접 중계 구간과의 SMF 길이와 RDPS 편차가 WDM 신호의 보상에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다.

TiNi/A16061 형상기억복합재료의 미시적 손상거동과 손상위치측정에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Microscopic Damage Behavior and the Damage Position Evaluation of TiNi/Al6061 Share Memory Alloy Composite)

  • TiNi alloy fiber was used to solve the problem of the tensile residual stress as the reinforced material. TiNi alloy fiber improves the tensile strength of composite by occurring compressive residual stress in the matrix using shape memory effect. In order to generate compressive residual stress in TiNi/Al6061 shape memory alloy(SMA) composite, 1, 3 and 5% pre-strains were applied to the composite in advance. It was also evaluated the effect of compressive residual stress corresponding to the pre-strain variation and the volume fraction of TiNi alloy. AE technique was used to clarify the microscopic damage behavior at high temperature and the effect of pre-strain in TiNi/Al6061 SMA composite. The results of the microscopic damage evaluation of TiNi/Al6061 SMA composite under various pre-strain using AE technique can be divided into three stage corresponding to the AE signals. AE counts and events were useful parameters to evaluate the fracture mechanism according to the variation of pre-strain. In addition, two dimensional AE source location technique was applied for monitoring the crack initiation and propagation in composite.

인발 선재의 잔류응력에 미치는 공정변수의 영향 및 잔류응력 완화 (Influence of Process Parameters on Residual Stress and Reducing Residual Stress in Drawn Wire)

  • The influence of process parameters in drawn wire on residual stresses was investigated. Based on a FE-simulation of the wire drawing process, the effects of process parameters such as semi-die angle, reduction, friction coefficient and bearing length on the residual stresses were investigated. The validity of the FE-simulation results was verified by the comparison of the previous simulated results with experimental data. In this study, semi-die angle and die reduction have significant effect on the residual stresses at the surface of drawn wire. Several methods such as, addition of axial tension, application of skin pass, straightening in multi-roll straightener etc, were suggested in the previous studies to reduce the residual stresses. In this study, the results show that the concurrent application of skin pass with low die reduction and low semi-die angle at the final stage of drawing operation reduces dramatically the both axial and hoop residual stresses after drawing

Butt 용접부에서 잔류응력이 피로균열성장거동에 미치는 영향에 대한 실험적 연구 1

  • The objective of this paper is to investigate the effect of residual stress on fatigue crack growth behavior. For this purpose, submerged arc welding was performed on SM50A steel plate and post weld heta treatment (PWHT) was followed. Residual stress distribution on the weld plate was determined by a hole drilling method and a series of .DELTA.P-const. and .DELTA.K-decreasing fatigue test were performed on the three different regions, i.e. weld metal, HAZ and base metla. Following conclusins were achieved. 1. In "as welded" specimens, tensile residual stresses were produced in the center portion of the specimen while compressive residual stresses were produced near the edges. In PWHT specimens, however, most of the residual stresses were disappeared. 2. The fatigue crack growth behavior in low .DELTA.K region was considerably affected by the presence of residual stress in both "as welded" and PWHT specimens. 3. Because of the relaxation of residual stresses in PWHT condition, the values of m increased from 2.62-2.78 (in the "as welded" condition) to 3.57-3.91 (in the "PWHT" condition)3.91 (in the "PWHT" condition)condition)

  • Nowadays, many components used in machinery industry is required lightness and high strength. Therefore, the effects of compressive residual stress by shot-peening which is method to improve fatigue lift of spring steel (JISG SUP-9), which used in suspension of automobile, on fatigue crack growth characteristics was investigated with considering fracture mechanics. So, we can obtain followings 1. The fatigue crack growth rate on stage II is conspicuous with the size of compressive residual stress and is dependent on Paris equation. 2. Although the maximum compressive residual stress is deeply and widely formed from surface, fatigue life does not improve than when maximum compressive residual stress is formed in surface. 3. The threshold stress intensity factor range is increased with increasing compressive residual stress. 4. In fracture surface of fatigue crack growth it is investigated that compressive residual stress remarkably retards fatigue crack growth.

  • 장거리 광전송 시스템에서 그룹 속도 분산과 비선형 현상에 의한 왜곡을 보상할 수 있는 분산 제어 (DM; dispersion management)와 광 위상 공액 기술이 결합된 전송 링크의 최적 설계를 위한 성능 분석을 수행하였다. 즉 전체 전송 링크의 중간에 위치한 광위상 공액기 (OPC; optical phase conjugator) 양쪽의 전송 구획에서의 잉여 분산의 상호 관계가 최적 전체 잉여 분산 (NRD; net residual dispersion)에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 시뮬레이션 결과 전반 전송 구획에서의 잉여 분산과 후반 전송 구획에서의 잉여 분산의 차이를 10 ps/nm로 하여 전체 전송 링크의 NRD를 10 ps/nm로 설정하여야 가장 우수한 보상이 이루어진다는 것을 확인하였다.

  • 구조재의 잔류응력(residual stress)은 외부에서 하중이 작용하지 않는 상태에서도 구조물 내부에 존재하는 응력으로 건설현장에서 구조물을 설치, 조립하는 경우에 발생하게 되며 특히 용접이나 과부하에 의한 구조물의 설치 후에도 발생할 수 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 600MPa급 mega structure용 강관제작 상의 프레스 및 용접에 의한 잔류응력의 영향을 파악하고자 홀드릴링 변형게이지법(Hole-Drilling Strain Gage Method)을 이용하여 용접선 부근을 중심으로 총 59개소를 측정하여 잔류응력의 분포 및 크기를 평가하였다.

  • Steel cord which is used as reinforcement in car tires is produced by wet-drawing process. Recently the quality improvement of the steel cord product is demanded by the tire market. After cold drawing process, produced residual stresses have a harmful effect on the durability of the wire and become the cause which decreases the quality of the product. Therefore, to improve the quality of the steel cord product, the research regarding the method of residual stress relaxation is necessary. To evaluate the quality of the cold drawn wire, it is very important to measure the residual stress, because the residual stress decides a variety of the quality level which is demanded in the cold drawn wire. The aim of this study is to propose residual stress relaxation method in the drawn wire using FE-analysis. The validity of the analysis results was verified by Nano indentation test.

  • Recently the steel parts used for automiles and trains are required to be used under higher stress than ever before in need of the weight down. However, threr are a lot of problems with developing such of fatigue strength and fatigue life are mainly focused on by adopting residual stress. And got the following characteristics from crack growth test carried out stress ratio. Fatigue life shows more improvement in the Un-peening material. And Compressive residual stress of surface on the Shot-peening processed operate resistance force of fatigue. So we cam obtain fallowings.
