  • This paper presents a procedure to recover sea surface heights (SSH) and free-air (FA) gravity anomalies from dense satellite altimeter SSH data with enhanced accuracies over the full spectrum of the gravity field. A wavenumber correlation filtering (WCF) of co-linear SSH tracks is developed for the coherent signals of sub-surface geological masses. Orbital cross-over adjustments with bias parameters are applied to the filtered SSH data, which are then separated into two groups of ascending and descending tracks and gridded with tensioned splines. A directional sensitive filter (DSF) is developed to reduce residual errors in the orbital adjustments that appear as track patterned SSH. Finally, FA gravity anomalies can be obtained by the application of a gradient filter on a high resolution estimate of geoid undulations after subtracting dynamic sea surface topography (DSST) from the SSH. These procedures are applied to the Geosat Geodetic Mission (GM) data of the southern oceans in a test area of ca. $900km\;\times{1,200}\;km$ to resolve geoid undulations and FA gravity anomalies to wavelengths of-10 km and larger. Comparisons with gravity data from ship surveys, predictions by least squares collocation (LSC), and 2 versions of NOAA's predictions using vertical deflections illustrate the performance of this procedure for recovering all elements of the gravity spectrum. Statistics on differences between precise ship data and predicted FA gravity anomalies show a mean of 0.1 mgal, an RMS of 3.5 mgal, maximum differences of 10. 2 mgal and -18.6 mgal, and a correlation coefficient of 0.993 over four straight ship tracks of ca. 1,600 km where gravity changes over 150 mgals.

  • Atrial fibrillation is needed to be detected at paroxysmal stage and to be treated. But, paroxysmal atrial fibrillation ECG is hardly obtained with 12-lead electrocardiographs but Holter systems. Presently, the averaged beat subtraction(ABS) method is solely used to estimate atrial fibrillatory waves even with somewhat large residual error. As an alternative, in this study, we suggested an ESAF(event-synchronous adaptive filter) based algorithm, in which the AF ECG was treated as a primary input and event-synchronous impulse train(ESIT) as a reference. And, ESIT was generated so to be synchronized with the ventricular activity by detecting QRS complex. We tested proposed algorithm with simulated AF ECGs and real AF ECGs. As results, even with low computational cost, this ESAF based algorithm showed better performance than the ABS method and comparable performance to algorithm based on PCA(principal component analysis) or SVD(singular value decomposition). We also proposed an expanded version of ESAF for some AF ECGs with multi-morphologic ventricular activities and this also showed reasonable performance. Ultimately, with Holter systems including our proposed algorithm, atrial activity signal can be precisely estimated in real-time so that it will be possible to calculate atrial fibrillatory rate and to evaluate the effect of anti-arrhythmic drugs.

  • The necessity of transmitting video data over a narrow-bandwidth exists steadily despite that video service over broadband is common. In this paper, we propose a scalable video coding framework for low-resolution video transmission over a very narrow-bandwidth network by super-resolution of decoded frames of a base layer using a convolutional neural network based super resolution technique to improve the coding efficiency by using it as a prediction for the enhancement layer. In contrast to the conventional scalable high efficiency video coding (SHVC) standard, in which upscaling is performed with a fixed filter, we propose a scalable video coding framework that replaces the existing fixed up-scaling filter by using the trained convolutional neural network for super-resolution. For this, we proposed a neural network structure with skip connection and residual learning technique and trained it according to the application scenario of the video coding framework. For the application scenario where a video whose resolution is $352{\times}288$ and frame rate is 8fps is encoded at 110kbps, the quality of the proposed scalable video coding framework is higher than that of the SHVC framework.

  • Non-point pollution adversely affects the water system and its influence is increasing. In order to manage such nonpoint source pollution, the government has conducted studies on LID (Low Impact Development) facilities and various efficiency evaluations. In this study, the actual installed permeable block facility among the various LID facilities was analyzed the effluent reduction rate, the residual rainfall analysis, the runoff duration time and the reduction rate of the maximum inflow and outflow for the rainfall runoff control and the results were compared the other facilities. The analysis results show that the reduction efficiency is high in order of impermeable block, filter type permeable block, and clearance type permeable block, and the graph showing the relationship between the rainfall intensity and the runoff duration time is presented. This graph can be helpful in the design of facilities such as the facility capacity selection according to the reproduction period of the permeable block facility similar to this.

  • Porous reaction bonded SiC with high fracture strength was developed using Si melt infiltration method for use of the support layer in high temperature gas filter that is essential to develop the next generation power system such as integrated gasification combined cycle system. The porosity and pore size of porous RBSC developed in this study were in the range of 32∼36% and 37∼90 ${\mu}m$ respectively and the maximum fracture strength of porous RBSC fabricated was 120 MPa. The fracture strength and thermal shock resistance of porous RBSC fabricated by Si melt infiltration were much improved compared to those of commercially available porous clay bonded SiC due to the formation of the strong SiC/Si interface between SiC particles. The characteristics of pore structure of porous RBSC was varied depending on the amounts of residual Si as Well as the size of SiC particle used in green body.

  • In this paper, a shared band transmission, in which downlink signals from satellite to both earth station and user terminal are transmitted in the same frequency band, is considered. For proper operation of such shared band transmission, self-interference caused by the transmitted signal from its own transmitter should be cancelled and the desired signal from the other transmitter should be obtained. The self-interference is sent by its own transmitter and it can be easily regenerated with the estimated round-trip delay. In addition to this delay, non-linearity effects caused by power amplifiers at the earth station and satellite should be exploited. The proposed interference canceller divided into two parts: one is subtraction of the transmitted signal with delay and non-linearity effects, and the other is adoptive filter to suppressed the residual interference. Through computer simulations, the effectiveness of the proposed system is verified.

  • In this thesis, we study the implementation of hands-free phone in a car, taking acoustic echo canceller, in order to remove acoustic echo effectively. Conventional coustic echo canceller used for only adaptive filtering has much difficulty to solve both echo and double-talk problem. To tackle this problem, we propose acoustic echo canceller consisting of adaptive filter using a modified NLMS, VAD to catch exact voice activity duration using two independent forgetting factors, double-talk detector to detect fast and precise double talk duration using cross-correlation between microphone signal and residual echo, and output controller using VAD and double-talk detector. The proposed hands-free phone taking acoustic echo canceller shows the performance that has not acoustic echo and guarantees full duplex.

  • "Wind and Ports" is a European project that has been carried out since 2009 to handle wind forecast in port areas through an integrated system made up of an extensive in-situ wind monitoring network, the numerical simulation of wind fields, the statistical analysis of wind climate, and algorithms for medium-term (1-3 days) and short term (0.5-2 hours) wind forecasting. The in-situ wind monitoring network, currently made up of 22 ultrasonic anemometers, provides a unique opportunity for detecting high resolution thunderstorm records and studying their dominant characteristics relevant to wind engineering with special concern for wind actions on structures. In such a framework, the wind velocity of thunderstorms is firstly decomposed into the sum of a slowly-varying mean part plus a residual fluctuation dealt with as a non-stationary random process. The fluctuation, in turn, is expressed as the product of its slowly-varying standard deviation by a reduced turbulence component dealt with as a rapidly-varying stationary Gaussian random process with zero mean and unit standard deviation. The extraction of the mean part of the wind velocity is carried out through a moving average filter, and the effect of the moving average period on the statistical properties of the decomposed signals is evaluated. Among other aspects, special attention is given to the thunderstorm duration, the turbulence intensity, the power spectral density and the integral length scale. Some noteworthy wind velocity ratios that play a crucial role in the thunderstorm loading and response of structures are also analyzed.

  • We have developed and proposed the heavy ion CT system which consists of fluorescent screen and CCD camera equipped with image intensifier. In our system, we have measured the residual range of particles that passed a phantom and reconstructed the CT image for the distribution of relative stopping power by filtered back projection method with Shepp '||'&'||' Logan filter. The heavy ion $\^$12/C accelerated up to 400 MeV/u by HIMAC (Heavy Ion Medical Accelerator in Chiba) was used. Intensity of the beam output changes like macro pulse, the period being 3.3 sec and the width being 2 sec. The series of data was acquired in synchronizing with the pulse, leading to the improvement of S/N in the CT image. The fundamental performance was experimentally evaluated in the proposed system. The spatial resolution was estimated to be about 1 mm and the density resolution (electron density referred to water) to be about 0.01.
