  • With the recent development of deep convolutional neural network learning, deep learning techniques applied to single image super-resolution are showing good results. One of the existing deep learning-based super-resolution techniques is RDN(Residual Dense Network), in which the initial feature information is transmitted to the last layer using residual dense blocks, and subsequent layers are restored using input information of previous layers. However, if all hierarchical features are connected and learned and a large number of residual dense blocks are stacked, despite good performance, a large number of parameters and huge computational load are needed, so it takes a lot of time to learn a network and a slow processing speed, and it is not applicable to a mobile system. In this paper, we use the residual dense structure, which is a continuous memory structure that reuses previous information, and the residual dense channel attention block using the channel attention method that determines the importance according to the feature map of the image. We propose a method that can increase the depth to obtain a large receptive field and maintain a concise model at the same time. As a result of the experiment, the proposed network obtained PSNR as low as 0.205dB on average at 4× magnification compared to RDN, but about 1.8 times faster processing speed, about 10 times less number of parameters and about 1.74 times less computation.

  • For orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM), cyclic prefix (CP) should be longer than the length of channel impulse response. In order to prevent a loss of bandwidth efficiency due to the use of a CP, residual intersymbol interference cancellation (RISIC) method has recently been developed. In this paper, we first apply the RISIC algorithm to the space-time block coded (STBC) OFDM and the space-frequency block coded (SFBC) OFDM with insufficient CP. It is shown that in the STBC OFDM, tail cancellation as well as cyclic restoration of the RISIC should be repeated. Second, we propose iterative channel estimation method for the RISIC in the STBC OFDM system with insufficient CP. Based on the expectation-maximization (EM) algorithm, the proposed estimation method exploits the extrinsic probabilities of the channel decoder iteratively. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated by computer simulation in a multipath fading environment.

  • A numerical simulation has been performed for the penetration of a long-rod penetrator into a metal block (ceramic-tile-inserted 4340-steel plate). The impact velocity is 1.5km/s at a normal incidence angle. The first two validations are conducted for a semi-infinite block measuring the depth of penetration (DOP). The material model of ceramic is the JH-2 (Johnson-Holmquist) model. The predicted DOP values are in close agreement with the experimental data. Then, the primary simulation is performed by varying the position of the confined ceramic tile for three types of thickness of ceramic tile. The residual velocity, residual mass and residual kinetic energy of the long-rod are obtained from the simulation. Based on these predicted values, the trend of the ballistic performance of the protective structure is estimated. In addition, the mass efficiency is calculated in order to determine the performance of the ceramic-tile-inserted metal block. Finally, the optimum protective structure is identified.

  • In this paper, we proposed a deep learning based super-resolution method that combines Channel Attention and Spatial Attention feature enhancement methods. It is important to restore high-frequency components, such as texture and features, that have large changes in surrounding pixels during super-resolution processing. We proposed a super-resolution method using feature enhancement that combines Channel Attention and Spatial Attention. The existing CNN (Convolutional Neural Network) based super-resolution method has difficulty in deep network learning and lacks emphasis on high frequency components, resulting in blurry contours and distortion. In order to solve the problem, we used an emphasis block that combines Channel Attention and Spatial Attention to which Skip Connection was applied, and a Residual Block. The emphasized feature map extracted by the method was extended through Sub-pixel Convolution to obtain the super resolution. As a result, about PSNR improved by 5%, SSIM improved by 3% compared with the conventional SRCNN, and by comparison with VDSR, about PSNR improved by 2% and SSIM improved by 1%.

  • In this paper, the preconditioned multistage time stepping methods which are popular multigrid smoothers is studied for the compressible flow calculations. Fourier analysis on the local time stepping and block-Jacobi preconditioned residual operators is performed using the linearized 2-D Navier-Stokes equations. It fumed out that block-Jacobi preconditioner has better performance in eigenvalue clustering. They are implemented in the 2-D compressible Euler and Wavier-Stokes calculations with multigrid methods to verify that the block-Jacobi preconditioned multistage time stepping shows better performance in convergence acceleration.

  • A two-dimensional numerical analysis was performed on the depth of pile embedment, the magnitude of the residual water level, and the condition of the presence or absence of cap concrete to understand the behavior of the block-type quay wall with piles. The results showed the control effect of the lateral displacement of the quay wall depending on the embedment of the pile. When the piles were not embedded, the lateral displacement of the quay wall increased proportionally as the residual water level difference increased. In contrast, when the piles were embedded into the ground, the control of the lateral displacement of the quay wall was greatly exerted even if the residual water level difference increased. There was little difference in the lateral displacement of the block-type quay wall regardless of the presence or absence of cap concrete. Under the condition where the piles were embedded down to the rubble mound layer, the piles exhibited the rotational behavior seen in the short piles. As the embedment depth of the piles increased, the piles showed the same bending behavior as the intermediate piles. Thus, the piles significantly contribute to the control of lateral displacement in the block-type quay wall with piles.

  • A packet loss in wireless environments causes a severe degradation of video quality in video communications. In this paper, a novel video error concealment algorithm is presented by combining boundary errors and a block reliability measure. The block reliability measure decides the reliability of a block by checking residual errors of a block. In the proposed approach, a motion vector of a missing unreliable block in an inter coded frame is obtained initially based on the motion vector of the same block in the reference frame. Furthermore, if the block in the reference frame is unreliable according to the reliability measure, a new motion vector is decided based on block boundary errors around the initial motion vector. According to our simulations, the proposed approach shows promising results for error concealment in error-prone wireless environments.

  • The thermo-mechanical interaction between brake block and wheel tread during braking has been found to cause thermal crack on the wheel tread. Due to thermal expansion of the rim material, the thermal cracks will protrude from the wheel tread and be more exposed to wear during the wheel/block contact than the rest of the tread surface. The wheel rim is in residual compression stress when is new. After service running, the region in the tread has reversed to tension. This condition can lead to the formation and growth of thermal cracks in the rim which can ultimately lead to premature failure of wheel. In the present paper, the thermal cracks of railway wheel, one of severe damages on the wheel tread, were evaluated to understand the safety of railway wheel in running condition. The residual stresses for damaged wheel which are applied to tread brake are investigated. Mainly X-ray diffusion method is used. Under the condition of concurrent loading of continuous rolling contact with rails and cyclic frictional heat from brake blocks, the reduction of residual stress is found to correlate well with the thermal crack initiation.

  • As it has been well appreciated from the viewpoint of efficiency, The weld-induced deformation control is one of the most important issues in marine structure production. In the case of thin plate block, weld-induced deformation is more serious than in the case of relatively thick plate block. The heat affect zone of thin plates is wider than that of thick plates with the same heat input. Among weld-induced deformations, the buckling deformation by the shrinkage and residual stress in the weld line direction is one of the most serious deformation types. This paper is concerned with controlling buckling deformations for the thin plate fillet welds, by using the tensioning method. A numerical analysis was carried out to illustrate several dominant buckling modes due to compressive residual stress in the fillet weldsof thin plates. Then, weld tests were carried out for 20 specimens with varying plate thickness, and with different magnitudes and directions for the tension load. The results graphically represented to shaw the effect of the tensioning method in reducing the weld-induced deformation. From the present findings, it was seen that the tensioning method is a useful way to control weld-induced deformations in the fillet welds of thin plates.

  • The regularized structured total least norm (RSTLN) method finds an approximate solution x and error matrix E to the overdetermined linear system (H + E)x $\approx$ b, preserving structure of H. A new separation scheme by parts of variables for the regularized structured total least norm on blind deconvolution problem is suggested. A method combining the regularized structured total least norm method with a separation by parts of variables can be obtain a better approximated solution and a smaller residual. Computational results for the practical problem with Block Toeplitz with Toeplitz Block structure show the new method ensures more efficiency on image restoration.
