The purpose of this study is to gain an in-depth understand of the dwelling needs of residents who are interested in Cohousing. To do this, we interviewed 18 urban residents who wanted a community life; investigated consciousness of neighbor relationships; and analyzed their consciousness of Cohousing residences, preference types, and spatial needs. At first the research has revealed that the neighbor relationships of the participants were not very close and that there was a difference in awareness levels between a 'good neighbor' and 'strange neighbor' with regard to neighbors, though all of the participants required a vitalization of these relationships. Second, Cohousing residence types could be divided into the 'life preferred type' and 'space preferred type', depending on the differences of pursued dwelling interests. These could be further segmented into the 'leisure life preferred type' and 'daily life preferred type', 'public space preferred type' and 'individual space preferred type'. Thirdly, preferences for Cohousing types varied depending on differences in priority with regard to important concepts of the social-physical environment (e.g., community property, effectiveness, naturalness, economic feasibility, and individuality). Finally, we found that the greatest needs were for public gardens and exercise space as aspects of the common spaces. Agreements pertaining to special use were considered as most important during the design process of the common spaces.
Housing Adjustment is a set of creative human activities that take place to meet various housing needs. Thus far, numerous studies have given attention to speculate a typology of those activities on an empirical base. Overall, though, little is known about its theoretical underpinning, due to the independent nature of each individual study in interpreting differences in conclusions. This study examines and compares results from two previous studies on housing adjustment. Previous research on housing adjustment suggests that, other than household and housing characteristics, housing satisfaction as an intervening variable is deeply associated with the choice of housing adjustment involved in mobility, home improvement, or cognitive adaptation. The two studies used similar theoretical schemes, asked similar questions, yet one sample consisted of Korean American residents and the other sample was poor housing residents in Korea. This study shows that differences in sample characteristics lead to a strong discrepancy in interpreting Speare's (1974) satisfaction theory of housing adjustment. For Korean Americans, housing satisfaction turned out to be a good predictor of housing adjustment preference, while it is not the case for poor housing residents in Korea. This implies that findings of any Single study can not be generalized directly to the population as a whole. Thus, continued effort should be made to compare specific findings from various research studies, seeking explanations for differences in conclusions. Theory can be legitimately built and strengthened in this integrated manner.
Urban outdoor playground serves as the space to promote the physical, cognitive, social, creative, emotional and linguistic development of children and the education center to stimulate the imagination and curiosity of them. It is also the place to be used as a basic park for urban residents and the local community space for associating with people of various levels. However, this playground as a banal space did not function properly before now. In 21st century, urban playground requires change and its various changes have been attempted. In particular, there is a need for the change into eco-friendly playground to provide children's health and urban healthy environment. Therefore, it requires much effort to construct and vitalize the eco-friendly playground adequate for domestic circumstances in Korea. This study derived the preferred planning items among eco-friendly playground planning elements focused on the people to use it and provided the data for the construction of local friendly, eco-friendly outdoor playground. For this purpose, we visited the playground of the apartment house built in 10 years with more than 300 households and surveyed 200 adults and investigated the residents' utilization and satisfaction on the current playground and the recognition and preference for eco-friendly playground.
Background and objective: A great deal of previous research has highlighted the value of educational and cultural facilities embedded in housing prices, by taking a large spatial area as the focus, such as the city or district level. However, few studies have investigated the extent to which educational and cultural facilities influence the formation of housing prices from an accessibility perspective. This study aims to identify the value of educational and cultural facilities embedded in the housing prices in Seoul Metropolitan City with a focus on the concept of the residents' neighbourhood and accessibility. Methods: To this end, this research used a spatial regression model with educational and cultural facilities as the independent variables and housing prices as the dependent variable. The model assessed the accessibility of cultural and educational facilities by considering geographic effects. Results: The findings are as follows. First, the spatial error model was found to be the best fit for multi-unit housing, while the spatial lag model was more appropriate for single-unit housing and apartments. Second, private educational facilities and art museums had positive effects on single- and multi-unit housing prices, while historical sites had a negative effect. Finally, private educational facilities positively influenced apartment prices, whereas public libraries and urban park areas had a negative effect. Conclusion: These findings indicate that the accessibility of educational and cultural facilities reflects residents' preferences and needs, which will ultimately influence housing prices.
The need for floating photovoltaic is being emphasized to expand renewable energy but low residents' acceptance is a major obstacle to the deployment of floating photovoltaic. Using the discrete choice experiment, this study analyzed the preferences for community-based floating photovoltaic projects and proposed a method to increase the residents' acceptance of floating photovoltaic projects. The estimates of the marginal willingness to accept (MWTA) of the distance, the coverage ratio, the landscape, the project owner (public institution), and the project owner (large company) are -0.69%p/km, 0.13%p/%p, -0.57%p, -2.95%p, -1.73%p, respectively. According to the result of simulation analysis, the residents' acceptance is significantly higher when the project is operated by a public institution, with a choice probability of 58%, than when the project is operated by a private company, with a choice probability of 29%, 12% for a large and small company, respectively. In addition, as a result of the analysis of the expected returns, the results show that the closer the distance from the residence to the power plant, the higher the expected return.
The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of elderly women's makeup behavior, psychological traits and demographic variables on their preference for makeup images in daily life(hereinafter called general makeup image) and for the makeup images of their own future funeral portraits. As for the method of research, a research study was implemented by using the questionnaire method. Seven factors were selected for makeup behavior: fashionability, conformity, subjectivity, instrumentality, interpersonal orientation and conspicuousness. The selected psychological traits were personality, death attitude and depression. Preference for general makeup image and for the makeup image of funeral portrait were investigated in terms of four: agreeableness, refinement, individuality and dignity. The subjects in this study were 651 female elderly residents in and around Seoul who were in their 60s to 80s. Concerning data analysis, factor analysis, Cronbach alpha coefficient, Pearson productmoment correlation coefficient, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Duncan's multiple range test and multiple regression analysis were utilized. Concerning the influence of the elderly women's makeup behavior, personality, death attitude, depression and demographic variables on preference for the makeup image of funeral portrait, their preference for an agreeable makeup image was analyzed. Thus, makeup behavior, personality, death attitude and depression were identified as the variables to exert a significant influence on preference for the makeup images of funeral portrait. The findings of the study are expected to help make makeup for funeral portrait entrenched as a part of the beauty industry and to make a contribution to the development of the beauty industry.
This research is a follow-up study of the analysis of satisfaction and preference rates in bathroom design relevant to age variable. This project examines the satisfaction and preference rates relevant to the variety a family type. Mid-sized apartments most favored by the mid-class families were selected as the objects of the research so that they represent the present conditions in Korean bathroom designs most comprehensively. In order to maintain consistency in research objects, this article limited them to the top five brand-name apartments in the metropolitan area based on the brand popularity and construction capability. The method of the research was surveys; we were able to retrieve and analyze 427 copies through internet. The data were processed by SPSS PC+ windows version 15.0 program and were analyzed using the means, crosstabs statistics, One-way ANOVA. The results are as follows: 1) The most significant factor that determines the variety a family type is the existence of senior citizens in the household. 2) The preference of families with young children is mostly determined by elements related to the safety of the children. 3) The satisfaction and preference rates are closely related to family types of each household. We sincerely hope that this article will provide guidelines for customized bathroom designs based on the ages, life cycles, and socioeconomic status of the residents so that the desings will answer to the needs of each household.
This study was performed with 482 subjects(278 boys and 204 girls in Seoul and Kyunggido area) to find out the attitude and eating behaviors about Kimchi on Korean young generation. General characteristics about subject and attitude and eating behavior were surveyed by self-developed questionnaires. 85.9% of the subjects were nuclear family type and 49.9% of respondent's mother had full-time job and 96.1% of subjects were middle or upper economic status. The preference for Kimchi, 60.4% of respondents answered that they liked Kimchi. According to grade, the rate of preference about Kimchi was significantly different, higher grade students were found higher preference on Kimchi : 64.4% of middle and 70.4% of high school students liked Kimchi. The eating patterns of Kimchi, up to 60% of respondents answered they ate Kimchi in every meal time, which suggested that it was still an important side dish in Korean meal among teenagers. The eating behaviors on Kimchi, $85{\sim}90%$ of respondents answered that they preferred Kimchi in meal time. Baechu Kimchi(chinese cabbage Kimchi) and Gakdugi(radish cube Kimchi) was highly preferred. And their preference of food which made from Kimchi (such as Kimchi fried rice, Kimchi stew, Kimchi pancake) was highly evaluated. 65.6% of residents pointed out that 'Kimchi is very nutritious food'. The respondent's structure of value on Kimchi were not significantly difference between sex and age. But it was significantly difference(p<0.01) between the groups with preference and familiarity on Kimchi. The group had higher preference and familiarity on Kimchi agreed to the positive values about Kimchi. These result suggested that various kinds of Kimchi should be developed for young generation to meet their taste and also continuous nutrition education about traditional food especially Kimchi should be promoted at home and school.
Apartment houses, the representative type of urban housing, are becoming an important element in Korea urban landscape. In this regard, this study aims to consider landscape in view of city residents reflecting human's visual perceptual characteristic, and in line with this, the urban landscape of apartment houses viewed from the urban center main intersections has been embodied according to the physical components of the intersections, which was followed by preference survey of the city residents, and then based on this, the visual-perceptual characteristics were examined. The findings are as follows: 1. The findings gained from the average of the landscape types indicate that the city residents are more satisfied when the shielding by surrounding buildings is minimized, view securing is relatively good, the whole complex is clearly observed because of its proximity to the visual point, and the view of the complex is well recognized from the focus point. 2. The examination concerning the preferred factors positively evaluated in terms of architectural planning shows that when the complex view is changeable sophisticated, makes the residents feel comfortable with its stable, open plan, and it's in harmony with surroundings, such housing attracts the city residents. 3. In terms of architectural planning factors, it turned out that the complex is more preferred when the visibility of the complex and the scale of surrounding green space are in good condition, and such elements of the complex as the sky line, the overall shape, the elevation, variation of the shape and height are harmonious with one another.
This study aims at examining the actual conditions of lighting environment and the consciousness and responses of residents with the living room of apartment house, grasping the problems of existing lighting methods, offering the lighting environment design standard in harmony with the various demands of residents, functions of living room space, life in living room and interior decoration and then pursuing the comfortable living environment. As the scope and methods of research for these, existing research methods are examined through the consideration of preceding researches and the basic outline of this research is constructed. Questionnaire survey is conducted with six apartment complexes including Kumho district, Munhung district, Sangmu district, Unnam district, Ilkok district and Chumdan district, the problems and improvements of lighting environment conditions are examined, conception and selection of lighting equipment design image are made, lighting equipment design of living room is suggested and the expected effects of lighting equipment ordering method are arranged as follows. As a result of examining and analyzing the lighting environment of living room in existing apartment houses, it is known that the conditions of existing lighting environment considered uniform lighting plan for functional sides of each room which didn't consider the various living behaviors and preference of residents and while the degree of interior decoration design is actually positive. Accordingly it seems that the lighting equipment ordering which considers the various preferences of residents is applied as the means for comfortable lighting environment, the interior environmental mood will be greatly improved.
