In this paper, centralized access control and slot allocation algorithm is proposed for wireless networks. The proposed algorithm is characterized by the contention-based reservation. In order to reduce the collision probability of reservation request, the base station calculates and broadcasts the transmission probability of reservation requests, and the wireless terminal transmits its reservation request with the received transmission probability. The scheduler allocates the uplink data slots based on the successful reservation requests. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithms can provide high channel utilization, and furthermore, maintains constant delay performance in the heavy traffic environment.
In this paper, we propose a QoS (Quality of Service)-aware and cooperative resource reservation scheme using cross-layer link adaptation for wireless high definition video transmission through UWB (Ultra Wide Band) network with D-MAC (Distributed Medium Access Control). A wireless high definition video transmission system usually requires stable high throughput even without line-of-sight, e.g., a destination device in another room separated by a wall. Since the WiMedia D-MAC supporting DRP (Distributed Reservation Protocol) scheme causes lots of DRP resource reservation conflicts due to failure of beacon detection in wireless channel environment, overall performances of the WiMedia D-MAC can be deteriorated. And the current WiMedia MAC standard has not considered QoS provisioning even though QoS parameters such as a range of service rates are provided to each traffic stream. Therefore, we propose Relay DRP protocol with QoS-based relay node selection criterion, which makes a relay path to avoid DRP resource reservation conflicts and guarantee QoS more stably through cross-layer link adaptation of cooperative relay transmission scheme and is compliant with the current WiMedia D-MAC protocol. Simulation results demonstrate performance improvements of the proposed method for throughput and QoS provisioning.
In the IEEE 802.11 DCF (Distributed Coordination Function) protocol, the binary exponential backoff algorithm is used to avoid data collisions. However, as the number of stations increases of, the collision probability tends to grow and the overall network performance is reduced. To solve this problem, this paper proposes a data transmission scheme based on the channel reservation method. In the proposed scheme, channel time is divided into reservation period and contention period. During the reservation period, stations succeeded in channel reservation transmit their own data packets in sequence without contention. During the contention period, each station sends its data packets through contentions as in DCF. During both the reservation period and the contention period, each station sends a request for channel reservation for the next reservation period to an AP (Access Point). After receiving such a channel reservation request from each station, the AP decides whether the reservation is succeeded and sends the result via a beacon frame to each station. Performance of the proposed scheme is analyzed through simulations. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme tends to reduce the collision probability of DCF and to improve the overall network performance.
This paper proposes the MAC scheme based on variable reservation slots for the guaranteed QoS of ATM services on RF and evaluates the performance. This scheme has improved the utilization of channel and success ratio of reservation by using the variable number of RES(REServation) slots according to the collisions. It is the results of performance evaluation that the CTD of CBR Service is 7.9ms with overall $load(\rho)$ 85%. And also VBR service of it is 3.5ms, ABR service of it is 9.8ms with overall load 85%.
