  • The Korean Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) has the great ecosystem as all the artificial activities in DMZ have been prohibited over half a century. The ecosystem should be conserved even after the reunification of Korea and hence the conservation plan should be established not after the reunification but before it. It requires a considerable budget to conserve DMZ, considering management of ecology resource, recovery, and research. The objective of this paper is to analyze a fund-raising measure for DMZ conservation, using economic incentives mechanism when multiple developers participate in the auction to get the right to develop North Korean regions, have private information about their sunk costs and pay a part of their profits for the fund. First, we analyze the real option model to decide the optimal investment time. Second, we construct the auction for bidders not to misrepresent their private information, based on Bayesian Nash equilibrium.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the problems of the shuttlecock card introduced by the Busan Metropolitan City Badminton Union to members. To this end, surveys and in-depth interviews were conducted together as mixed research methods. As a result, it was found that the shuttlecock card was obligatory as an identification card, was providing some inconvenience to the members, and was not satisfactory as a payment means. In addition, it was revealed that it was not registering the existence or use of the fund under the agreement between members. It revealed that the use of the fund of the shuttlecock card has been unclear. The cause of the shuttlecock card project was basically a communication problem due to the characteristics of the vertical structure of the union, a product of failed governance.

  • The warehousing of inventories is an enormous expense to industries worldwide, and yet there are few available that can be used to design rack storage systems while considering overall system costs. The primary objective of this paper is the development of an overall ware hous storage system costs model to aid a warehous planner in the design of automated warehouse systems. A simulation model and statistical estimation procedures are used to determine the maximum inventory levels accumulated in the receiving, storage, and shipping areas. The overall cost model is developed to determine the required total land, the initial investment fund, the number of pieces of handling equipment, and the storage rack configuration for the main storage area. A numerical example is then presented to demonstrate the application of the overall system cost model developed in this paper.

  • This paper investigated performance of the Markowitz's portfolio selection model with applications to Korean stock market. We chose Samsung-Group-Funds and KOSPI index for performance comparison with the Markowitz's portfolio selection model. For the most recent one and a half year period between March 2007 and September 2008, KOSPI index almost remained the same with only 0.1% change, Samsung-Group-Funds showed 20.54% return, and Markowitz's model, which is composed of the same 17 Samsung group stocks, achieved 52% return. We performed sensitivity analysis on the duration of financial data and the frequency of portfolio change in order to maximize the return of portfolio. In conclusion, according to our empirical research results with Samsung-Group-Funds, investment by Markowitz's model, which periodically changes portfolio by using nonlinear programming with only financial data, outperformed investment by the fund managers who possess rich experiences on stock trading and actively change portfolio by the minute-by-minute market news and business information.

Thus this study was designed to find out the relationship. Methods The participants were the first and second grade middle school students. The participants were asked to measure their height and weight etc, and were asked to survey questionnaires. To diagnose the students' degree of depression, Children's Depression Inventory(CDI) by Kovas and Beck. Results The average depression score in the obese group was significantly higher than that of the normal body weight group. In addition, male obese group scored higher on CDI than the female obese group, and the obese group of participants who don't exercise, but like to play computer games and watch TV scored higher on CDI than the group who exercise and don't play computer games. Conclusions This study proved that depression in adolescent was closely related with obesity and obesity-related lifestyles. • The main objective of this study is to test hypotheses by empirical study on the technology transfer from a national institute to small and medium sized enterprises(SMEs) in the Korean electronic devices industry. The important findings of the study are as follows: First, the success of the technology transfer from national institute to SMEs depends on the character of the project manager such as research experience and academic degree level. Second, the success of the technology transfer is related to the nature of the research project, especially to the technology life cycle stage but insignificantly to the amount of R&D fund and duration. Third, another success factor for technology transfer is the joint technology development between institute and SMEs, which is due to the possibility of early commercialization of the technology development project. Fourth, the hypothesis about the relationship between the project selection and evaluation results and technology transfer success is not statistically supported.

  • This paper explores the determinants of the innovation impact of publicly funded R&D projects along three broad dimensions, namely project, firm and market-related factors. In addition to these factors we examine the attributes of the research result per se and aspects of the commercialization process. The observations from empirical and qualitative analyses are based on R&D projects funded by the Fifth and Sixth Research Framework Programmes of the European Union. Firm size, prior experience, innovation culture, the nature of the project itself, explicit intension to commercialize, consortium management and strategy are the factors with the strongest effect on project success, defined in terms of product/process innovation and/or technical knowledge creation. The paper provides important implications for the organization, objectives, and management of public programmes that fund R&D and for project and participant selection.
