  • Unsupervised neural networks have not caught enough attention until Generative Adversarial Network (GAN) was proposed. By using both the generator and discriminator networks, GAN can extract the main characteristic of the original dataset and produce new data with similarlatent statistics. However, researchers understand fully that training GAN is not easy because of its unstable condition. The discriminator usually performs too good when helping the generator to learn statistics of the training datasets. Thus, the generated data is not compelling. Various research have focused on how to improve the stability and classification accuracy of GAN. However, few studies delve into how to improve the training efficiency and to save training time. In this paper, we propose a novel optimizer, named FAST-ADAM, which integrates the Lookahead to ADAM optimizer to train the generator of a semi-supervised generative adversarial network (SSGAN). We experiment to assess the feasibility and performance of our optimizer using Canadian Institute For Advanced Research - 10 (CIFAR-10) benchmark dataset. From the experiment results, we show that FAST-ADAM can help the generator to reach convergence faster than the original ADAM while maintaining comparable training accuracy results.

  • We design an ingenious view-pooling method named learning-based multiple pooling fusion (LMPF), and apply it to multi-view convolutional neural network (MVCNN) for 3D model classification or retrieval. By this means, multi-view feature maps projected from a 3D model can be compiled as a simple and effective feature descriptor. The LMPF method fuses the max pooling method and the mean pooling method by learning a set of optimal weights. Compared with the hand-crafted approaches such as max pooling and mean pooling, the LMPF method can decrease the information loss effectively because of its "learning" ability. Experiments on ModelNet40 dataset and McGill dataset are presented and the results verify that LMPF can outperform those previous methods to a great extent.

  • Social networking platforms have become a smart way for people to interact and meet on internet. It provides a way to keep in touch with friends, families, colleagues, business partners, and many more. Among the various social networking sites, Twitter is one of the fastest-growing sites where users can read the news, share ideas, discuss issues etc. Due to its vast popularity, the accounts of legitimate users are vulnerable to the large number of threats. Spam and Malware are some of the most affecting threats found on Twitter. Therefore, in order to enjoy seamless services it is required to secure Twitter against malicious users by fixing them in advance. Various researches have used many Machine Learning (ML) based approaches to detect spammers on Twitter. This research aims to devise a secure system based on Hybrid Similarity Cosine and Soft Cosine measured in combination with Genetic Algorithm (GA) and Artificial Neural Network (ANN) to secure Twitter network against spammers. The similarity among tweets is determined using Cosine with Soft Cosine which has been applied on the Twitter dataset. GA has been utilized to enhance training with minimum training error by selecting the best suitable features according to the designed fitness function. The tweets have been classified as spammer and non-spammer based on ANN structure along with the voting rule. The True Positive Rate (TPR), False Positive Rate (FPR) and Classification Accuracy are considered as the evaluation parameter to evaluate the performance of system designed in this research. The simulation results reveals that our proposed model outperform the existing state-of-arts.

  • Violence in the Internet era poses a new challenge to the current counter-riot work, and according to research and analysis, most of the violent incidents occurring are related to the dissemination of violence images. The use of the popular deep learning neural network to automatically analyze the massive amount of images on the Internet has become one of the important tools in the current counter-violence work. This paper focuses on the use of transfer learning techniques and the introduction of an attention mechanism to the residual network (ResNet) model for the classification and identification of violence images. Firstly, the feature elements of the violence images are identified and a targeted dataset is constructed; secondly, due to the small number of positive samples of violence images, pre-training and attention mechanisms are introduced to suggest improvements to the traditional residual network; finally, the improved model is trained and tested on the constructed dedicated dataset. The research results show that the improved network model can quickly and accurately identify violence images with an average accuracy rate of 92.20%, thus effectively reducing the cost of manual identification and providing decision support for combating rebel organization activities.

  • Among the technologies of the 4th industrial revolution, drones that have grown rapidly and are being used in various industries can be operated by the pilot directly or can be operated automatically through programming. In order to be controlled by a pilot or to operate automatically, it is essential to predict and analyze the optimal path for the drone to move without obstacles. In this paper, after securing and analyzing the pilot training dataset through the unmanned aerial vehicle piloting training platform designed through prior research, the profile of the dataset that should be preceded to search and derive the optimal route of the unmanned aerial vehicle was designed. The drone pilot training data includes the speed, movement distance, and angle of the drone, and the data set is visualized to unify the properties showing the same pattern into one and preprocess the properties showing the outliers. It is expected that the proposed big data-based profile can be used to predict and analyze the optimal movement path of an unmanned aerial vehicle.

  • This research proposes a novel approach for Tamil Handwritten Character Recognition (THCR) that combines feature selection and ensemble learning techniques. The Tamil script is complex and highly variable, requiring a robust and accurate recognition system. Feature selection is used to reduce dimensionality while preserving discriminative features, improving classification performance and reducing computational complexity. Several feature selection methods are compared, and individual classifiers (support vector machines, neural networks, and decision trees) are evaluated through extensive experiments. Ensemble learning techniques such as bagging, and boosting are employed to leverage the strengths of multiple classifiers and enhance recognition accuracy. The proposed approach is evaluated on the HP Labs Dataset, achieving an impressive 95.56% accuracy using an ensemble learning framework based on support vector machines. The dataset consists of 82,928 samples with 247 distinct classes, contributed by 500 participants from Tamil Nadu. It includes 40,000 characters with 500 user variations. The results surpass or rival existing methods, demonstrating the effectiveness of the approach. The research also offers insights for developing advanced recognition systems for other complex scripts. Future investigations could explore the integration of deep learning techniques and the extension of the proposed approach to other Indic scripts and languages, advancing the field of handwritten character recognition.

  • Image matching is a crucial preprocessing step for effective utilization of multi-temporal and multi-sensor very high resolution (VHR) satellite images. Deep learning (DL) method which is attracting widespread interest has proven to be an efficient approach to measure the similarity between image pairs in quick and accurate manner by extracting complex and detailed features from satellite images. However, Image matching of VHR satellite images remains challenging due to limitations of DL models in which the results are depending on the quantity and quality of training dataset, as well as the difficulty of creating training dataset with VHR satellite images. Therefore, this study examines the feasibility of DL-based method in matching pair extraction which is the most time-consuming process during image registration. This paper also aims to analyze factors that affect the accuracy based on the configuration of training dataset, when developing training dataset from existing multi-sensor VHR image database with bias for DL-based image matching. For this purpose, the generated training dataset were composed of correct matching pairs and incorrect matching pairs by assigning true and false labels to image pairs extracted using a grid-based Scale Invariant Feature Transform (SIFT) algorithm for a total of 12 multi-temporal and multi-sensor VHR images. The Siamese convolutional neural network (SCNN), proposed for matching pair extraction on constructed training dataset, proceeds with model learning and measures similarities by passing two images in parallel to the two identical convolutional neural network structures. The results from this study confirm that data acquired from VHR satellite image database can be used as DL training dataset and indicate the potential to improve efficiency of the matching process by appropriate configuration of multi-sensor images. DL-based image matching techniques using multi-sensor VHR satellite images are expected to replace existing manual-based feature extraction methods based on its stable performance, thus further develop into an integrated DL-based image registration framework.

  • In the current COVID-19 pandemic, fake news and misinformation related to COVID-19 have been causing serious confusion in our society. To accurately detect such fake news, social context-based methods have been widely studied in the literature. They detect fake news based on the social context that indicates how a news article is propagated over social media (e.g., Twitter). Most existing COVID-19 related datasets gathered for fake news detection, however, contain only the news content information, but not its social context information. In this case, the social context-based detection methods cannot be applied, which could be a big obstacle in the fake news detection research. To address this issue, in this work, we collect from Twitter the social context information based on CoAID, which is a COVID-19 news content dataset built for fake news detection, thereby building CoAID+ that includes both the news content information and its social context information. The CoAID+ dataset can be utilized in a variety of methods for social context-based fake news detection, thus would help revitalize the fake news detection research area. Finally, through a comprehensive analysis of the CoAID+ dataset in various perspectives, we present some interesting features capable of differentiating real and fake news.
