  • As very sensitive magnetic field sensors, superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs) are used to measure magnetic field signals from the human heart. By analyzing these cardiomagnetic signals, functional diagnoses of heart can be done. In order to measure weak biomagnetic signals, we need a multichannel SQUID array with sensor coverage large enough to cover the whole heart to enable the measurement in a single position setting. In this paper, we review the recent development of SQUID systems for measuring cardiomagnetic fields, with special emphasis on SQUID types.

  • x mol% (x = 0 ~ 20) Na2CO3 excess Bi2.5Na3.5Nb5O18 (BNN) particles were synthesized using molten salt as a flux. The secondary phases were observed at stoichiometric ratio of BNN precursors and their intensity decreased with increasing Na contents. The results of SEM images showed that all particles existed in a platelet shape and the particle increased in size with higher increasing Na contents. Plate-like NaNbO3 particles were developed using BNN precursor obtained by a topochemical microcrystal conversion. XRD analysis of NaNbO3 particles showed that a single perovskite phase and the intensity of (h00) peaks increased with increasing Na contents in BNN precursor. SEM images showed that the size of plate-like NaNbO3 was significantly changed by controlling Na contents in BNN precursors.

  • Remote sensing division of satellite technology research center (SaTReC), Korea advanced institute of science and technology (KAIST) has developed a ground receiving and processing system for high resolution satellite images. Developed system will be adapted and operated to receive, process and distributes images acquired from of the second Korean Multi-purpose Satellite (KOMPSAT-2), which will be launched in 2004. This project had initiated to develop and Koreanize the state-of-the-art technologies related to the ground receiving system fur high resolution remote sensing images, which range from direct ingestion of image data to the distribution of products through precise image correction. During four years development, the system has been verified in various ways including real operation of custom-made systems such as a prototype system for SPOT and a commercialised system for KOMPSAT-1. Currently the system is under customisation for installation at KOMPSAT-2 ground station. In this paper, we present accomplished work and future work.

  • The development of a low earth orbit microsatellite is recognized as a good means of enhancing the technological capability, to gain experience and to train engineers to acquire knowledge and experience in space systems. Most developed countries in space technology do not allow the transfer of critical space technologies such as technology involved in attitude determination and control systems. And the export of critical components and equipment such as high precision attitude sensors is tightly controlled. Therefore it is inevitable to independently acquire self-design and manufacturing capability to implement a satellite mission. The KITSAT-3 program was aimed at verifying the capability to design, develop and operate an indigenous microsatellite system, which includes such critical technologies and associated components and equipment, as well as train engineers. KITSAT-3 was launched on May 26, 1999 using the Indian launcher PSLV-C2. The operations team has successfully performed a full functional checkout during the launch and early operations phase and the satellite is presently in a normal operations mode. This paper introduces the KITSAT-3 program and the results of the initial operations.
