  • Transverse mandibular deficiency is rare maxillomandibular malrelationship. Most of this malrelationship is considered to be caused by loss of bone substances. This can be corrected by subapical osteotomy, midsagittal vertical osteotomy, midline horizontal L sliding osteotomy, etc., case by case. In these cases, malrelationship after malunion of mandibular fracture, combination of vertical osteotomy and sliding autogenous cortical bone graft was used and favorable results were obtained. Advantages over previous traditional surgical methods were as follows : 1. This method provided easy access and good visibility. 2. It provided broad bone contact area, thus no other operation to obtain bone graft was needed. 3. There were little circumstances to extract teeth. 4. There were no difficulty in tongue movement after operation.

  • Total scalp avulsion is rare but a devastating injury. This condition burdens the patient with disfigured cosmetic appearance and permanent psychosocial trauma. Throughout history, this condition has been favored in women working with mechanics since the long hair function as a vector appliance for oblique pull of the hair into a stationary torque. We present our experience of the replantation of the total avulsed scalp in male, first to be reported in Korea. Warm ischemic time was exceeding 16 hours along with severe crushed condition of the detached margin, a relatively satisfactory result was obtained.

  • Periapical tissue reactions and root resorption following replantation with different calcium hydroxide pastes Aim Along with the expanded clinical use of calcium hydroxide, literatures have suggested mixing calcium hydroxide with various vehicles. We evaluated and compared the periapical tissue reactions and root resorption after the canals were filled with various preparations of calcium hydroxide in replantation of rat molar.(omitted)

  • We experienced a case of 49-year-old male patient with amputated two fingers preserved in Soju (Korean traditional liquor, a kind of alcoholic beverages). The amputation level of the two fingers was at the distal interphalangeal joint. The Soju was not an adequate physiologic solution for preserving the amputated tissues. Even though arterial anastomosis was successful, there was no venous drainage visible in the operative field. On the first day after the initial operation, we succeeded in the anastomosis of one vein in one of the two amputated fingers. This was 12 hours after arterial anastomosis was carried out. But no venous dranage was visible in the other finger. In spite of a salvage procedure sustained with external bleeding for 7 days, this replanted fingertip eventually fell into necrosis.
