The purposes of this study were to analyze the consumer inclination to convenience towards HMR in order to verify the structural correlation of the actual state of consumption, and to analyze consequently, the direct or indirect effects among 'frequency of using,' 'preference', 'satisfaction', and 'intention to repurchase'. The subjects were adults in their twenties or older who had used HMRs and lived in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province in Korea. Random sampling of 550 subjects, who were distributed a questionnaire from March 12 to 30, 2005. A total of 451 questionnaires were returned (the return rates were 82%). The main results of this study were as follows : Regarding the types of HMR, 'Ready to eat' had higher preference (3.31), satisfaction (3.33) and 'intention to purchase it again' (3.38) than those of 'Ready to heat' and 'Ready to end-cook.' Consumer inclination to convenience towards HMR was analyzed in order to verify the structural correlation of the actual state of consumption, and consequently, the direct or indirect effects among 'frequency of using,' 'preference', 'satisfaction', and 'intention to repurchase' were analyzed. The gross effect of 'frequency of using' on 'intention to repurchase' was 0.435, the gross effect of preference on 'intention to purchase it again' was 0.659, and the gross effect of satisfaction on 'intention to purchase it again' was 0.772 for 'Ready to eat.' The gross effect of 'frequency of using' on 'intention to repurchase' was 0.448, the gross effect of preference on 'intention to repurchase' was 0.556, and the gross effect of satisfaction on 'intention to repurchase' was 0.654 for 'Ready to heat.' The gross effect of 'frequency of using' on 'intention to repurchase' was 0.432, the gross effect of preference on 'intention to repurchase' was 0.494, and the gross effect of satisfaction on 'intention to repurchase' was 0.608 for 'Ready to end-cook.' To summerize the above results, there was a difference of the structural correlation among component concepts of the actual state of consuming according to the criteria of HMR. Thus, it implied that differentiated sales strategies were needed according to the criteria of HMR.

Recently, an extended warranty of a system following the expiration of the basic warranty is becoming increasingly popular to the user. In this respect, we suggest a two stage maintenance policy under the non-renewing warranty from the user's point of view in this paper. In the first stage, the user has to decide whether or not to purchase the extended warranty period. And, in the second stage, the optimal replacement period following the expiration of the warranty is determined. Under the extended warranty, the failed system is minimally repaired by the manufacturer at no cost to the user. We utilize the expected cost from the user's perspective to determine the optimal two stage maintenance policy. Finally, a few numerical examples are given for illustrative purpose.
The survey was conducted to investigate athletes# beverage drinking pattern and their knowledge concerning hydration and fluid replacement. The subjects were 371 collegiate athletes (235 males and 136 females) in Seoul and Daejun area. The mean age of the athletes was 20.44 y. The prevalence of sports drink use among subjects at ordinary time, after training, and after competition were 9.0%, 17.1%, and 57.3% respectively. Primary source of sports drink information were advertisement (57.3%), friends or colleagues (14.9%), and coaches (7.0%) The purchase of sports drink was done by athletes themselves (76.0%) and coaches (22.6%). The most influential factor in choice of sports drink was taste (61.5%), brand name (15.1%), composition (12.4%), and advertisement (6.7%) However, only 9.5% of the subjects answered they know well about the sports drink they are drinking. To the 15 questions to survey the nutritional knowledge about fluid and intake of sports drink, subjects responded correctly to 58.47%. Their sex or experiences of nutrition education didn#t affect to their knowledge. As the result, the prevalence of collegiate athletes# sports drink use was high but their knowledge about it was not sufficient. These results suggest that an effective and practical nutrition education for adequate hydration and choice of sports drink for atheletes should be considered.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the food-related lifestyle choices of female baby boomers and to investigate variables regarding home meal replacement (HMR) buying behaviors and future needs. This study was conducted on 358 female baby boomers 53 years of age living in Gyeonggi and near Seoul. Out of 420 distributed questionnaires, 358 were returned and used for analysis (response rate: 85.2%). As a result of cluster analysis, three groups were identified based on the food-related lifestyles : a value-seeking group, a convenience-seeking group, and a health-seeking group. Among the three groups, there were significant differences in two socio-demographic characteristics, education level (p<0.05) and regular exercise (p<0.01), and in several health- and food-related habits, type of breakfast (p<0.01), type of dinner (p<0.05), dinner details (p<0.05), frequency of eating out (p<0.05), and eating habits score (p<0.01). The health-seeking group was significantly more likely to purchase ready to cook (RTC) items (59.1%) than were the other groups (p<0.001). However, the ratio of HMR purchasing for the purpose of meal replacement (p<0.05) and an HMR purchasing frequency of more than twice a week (p<0.001) were significantly lower in the health-seeking group. Reasons for selecting HMR showed a similar tendency among groups in taste (26.2%), convenience (18.7%), price (16.9%), safety (15.3%) and type of food (14.3%). However, the satisfaction scores for hygiene and safety reported by the health-seeking group were significantly lower than those reported by the other groups. More than two-thirds of all respondents were willing to purchase HMR in the future, though there were significant differences according to group: convenience-seeking group, 73.1%, health-seeking group, 70.1%, and value-seeking group, 65.7% (p<0.05). Our results suggest that the number of baby boomers purchasing HMR products will continue to grow and baby boomers will want HMR products to be more healthy (52.0%), safe (28.5%) and delicious (13.4%). An emphasis on taste was high in the convenience-seeking group, whereas an emphasis on health was high in the health-seeking and value-seeking groups. In conclusion, this study shows various food-related lifestyles amongst female baby boomers and illustrates the need to develop HMR marketing strategies targeted to these different lifestyles.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the purchasing behavior and selection attributes for Home Meal Replacement (HMR) and to identify the selection attributes affecting purchasing frequency and purchasing costs of married women living in a city. Among 837 questionnaires distributed to HMR married women consumers, 752 complete questionnaires (89.8%) were analyzed. The younger married women group showed higher frequency of purchasing HMR than the older age group. The 20s and 30s age groups showed higher purchasing costs for HMR than the 40s and older age groups. A higher proportion of employed married women purchased HMR three or more times per week and spent an average of more than 20,000 won per purchase in comparison with unemployed married women. HMR selection attributes were classified into five factors: 'taste and sanitation', 'economic efficiency', 'health and nutrition', 'convenience', and 'reliability and awareness'; mean scores of these factors' importance levels were 4.28, 3.93, 3.59, 3.54, and 3.50 out of 5 points, respectively. The importance level of 'taste and sanitation' factor was significantly greater as married women's age decreased. However, the importance level of 'health and nutrition' factor was significantly greater as married women's age increased. The results of the logistic regression analyses indicate that the 'taste and sanitation' and 'health and nutrition' factors affected frequency of purchasing HMR. The 'reliability and awareness' factor had the most significant impact on cost per purchasing HMR. Therefore, a product differentiation strategy according to married women's age and employment status should be applied. Product qualities and brand value should be improved to enhance competition in the HMR market.

The purpose of this study was to investigate and compare the consumption behaviors for purchase of Home Meal Replacement (HMR) products and importance and satisfaction on selective attributes of HMR in middle-aged adults by gender. The subjects were 919 middle-aged adults (400 males and 519 females; 40 to 64 years) residing in Seoul and its metropolitan area, who have HMR purchasing experience. The survey was conducted from January to August 2018. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 23.0 program. Consumption frequency of HMR products in male and female subjects was 1-2 times a month by 42.3% and 40.8% and 4-6 times a month by 26.8% and 19.8%, respectively (p<0.05). Reasons for purchasing HMR in male and female subjects were shown significantly different from saving time by 44.8% and 50.5% and easy cooking by 25.8% and 16.6%, respectively (p<0.01). HMR products with high preference and satisfaction for the subjects included Gimbap, precooked dried rice, and frozen food. According to the Importance-Performance Analysis (IPA), selective attributes of HMR with high importance and low satisfaction in the second quadrant were food additives, origin, nutrient content, and price, for both male and female subjects; additionally, hygiene was a factor included only by female subjects. Therefore, these results suggest that it is needed to consider to produce HMR products with improved qualities using reliable food materials and ingredients and to maintain competitive pricing for the expansion of HMR products consumption of middle-aged adults.
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to identify the segments of the Home Meal Replacement (HMR) market according to food-related lifestyle of Japanese consumers, and to investigate its demographic characteristics, the HMR purchase status and needs of new HMR product development. Methods: A total of 2,720 domestic consumers living in Japan were surveyed using a self-administered questionnaire and 488 responses were returned. Excluding responses with significant missing data, 467 responses were used for data analysis. Results: As a result of cluster analysis, three consumer segments were identified. The diet-highly concerned segment had the highest food-related lifestyle score, followed by the diet-moderately concerned segment, and the diet-unconcerned segment (p<0.001). A significant difference in demographic characteristics among the three segments was found with respect to the type of residence (p<0.05). There were significant differences in the main place (p<0.01) and average expense (p<0.001) for HMR purchases by food-related lifestyle segments. In the case of new HMR products that need further development, 'low-sodium products' had the highest demand scores in all three segments. In the diet-highly concerned segment, the mean scores of demand for new products were significantly higher than those in the other segments (p<0.001). Conclusion: The findings of this study can be used to develop new products for the Japanese' HMR market. The segments identified in this study should be updated and revised regularly to reflect changes in the characteristics of each food-related lifestyle segment.

This study examined how consumer choices (i.e., selecting food safety certified products, health-related products, and familiar brands) affect the purchase of Korean native chicken (KNC) and the demographics that influence KNC purchases using secondary consumer panel data from the Rural Development Administration of Korea. The grocery purchase data from 654 Korean households between 2017 and 2019 were used; the propensity for food safety certified products was measured by the purchasing frequency of Good Agricultural Practice (GAP) and Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) products, and the propensity for health-related products was measured by the purchasing frequency of home meal replacement (HMR) and hedonic products. The propensity to purchase familiar brands was measured using a questionnaire. Logistic regression was used to examine the determinants of the KNC purchase experience, and multiple linear regression was used to determine the factors that influenced the KNC purchase frequency. The results showed that unemployed women purchased more safety certified products, health-related products, familiar brands, and KNC. These findings suggest that targeting consumers with differential marketing strategies may help promote KNC consumption. This study identified factors that influence KNC purchases, which is important for understanding consumer behavior and revitalizing the market.

As a simulation or replacement of analog money in cyber space, the e-cash was introduced by using cryptographic primitives. Since a perfect anonymity system causes some illegal activities, such as money laundering, blackmailing, and illegal purchase, a revocable electronic system was paid a great attention to control the anonymity. In general, Trust Third Party(TTP) is introduced to detect any dubious user and coin, namely user tracing and coin tracing. In this paper we propose a new revocable anonymity e-cash system, and verify the security requirement as well. In our scheme a user first withdraws the e-coin from bank by using blind signature, and then TTP verifies the bank's signature and records the tracing information.
In viewpoint of visual merchandising, display is recognized as important means of expressing fashion as well as essential factor of stimulating customers' interest in purchase. However, visual merchandising Is relatively new area and the number of specialized display personnels are limited Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate the practice of display in domestic fashion industry. For this study the display personnels working in 51 fashion brands were interviewed. The result was analyzed by using frequency count and percentage. It was found that few human resources were undertaking display work in various and abundant stores with relatively frequent display replacement. And main part of display work was performed outside office hours which brought out extension of working tome. Comparatively more budget assigned for ladies 'brand than mens' brand, youngsters 'than middle-ages' and obtaining display-related information was belong done mostly via domestic documentary sources and market researches. In general, optimistic attitudes were significantly shown by the interviewees that the importance of display is increasingly recognized, in the domestic fashion industry and therefore the prospect of display found to be expected as prosperous.
