  • This paper designs and presents the results of an air network simulation radio transmission link applied with a multi-beam active phase array antenna simulator in a testbed system for verifying an air network currently underway as a technology development task. Using the Ku band, the Radio transmission link was designed in consideration of the link budget to satisfy the requirements for the system being developed. Considering short-distance links and long-distance links, the required EIRP and G/T performance scales of multi-beam repeaters and mission planes were applied to confirm the minimum and maximum link margins based on Eb/No. In this Radio Transmission Link design, the application analysis results such as rainfall availability are used to effectively establish standards when selecting the operating radius of the multi-beam relay system and related system standards.

  • North Korea has already been using underground space for military purposes for decades, and is currently developing it as a key base for operating asymmetric forces. Accordingly, the special operations teams need fighting methods, weapon systems, and organizational structures to carry out subterranean operations. This paper presents an unmanned system platform for subterranean operations that combines tilt-rotor type drones, high-tech sensors, communication repeaters, and small robots, and a system that can be operated by special operation teams. Based on this, the survivability of the special operations teams can be strengthened and operational utility can be maximized. Afterwards, if Special Warfare Command collects collective intelligence based on the ideas related to subterranean operations presented in this paper and further develops these, it will be possible to drive subterranean operations doctrines, weapon systems, and organizational structures optimized for the battlefield on the Korean Theater of Operations in the near future.

  • It is not easy to identify the location of mobile terminals based on drones in the mountainous area, the densely populated urban area, or the space where mobile terminals can easily move by using equipments or modules that can recognize the location of sensors or mobile terminals with LBS (Location-Based Service). However, although the performance of GPS has developed due to the development of technology, it is still widely used in position recognition systems using GPS modules in the sea and onshore, and there is much room for more utilization. Currently, most of the existing sensor networks need to send at least three location information messages to mobile terminals with location information that a plurality of mobile base stations depend on GPS. However, location recognition of mobile repeaters that maintain a certain movement speed using acceleration sensors is necessary for efficient communication network connection.

  • This study is an empirical result for building an onboard communication network using metal surface wave communication and is a consideration of its application within the ship. Over the past three years, the applicability and the performance of metal surface wave communication has been confirmed by testing on five small and medium ships. In the tests, IEEE 802.11 protocol of Wi-Fi was used, and the signals were generated in the form of surface waves. Data was sent from AP to AP in the point-to-point form, and the transmission speed was measured at the same time. If necessary, additional repeaters were used to extend the transmission distance. As derived a transmission speed of 5 to 100 Mbps in wireless communication restricted areas of the 5 ships, it is believed that it is possible to reduce the weight of ships and costs by eliminating the communication cables by using surface wave communication as the back-bone network on ships.

  • OCR(On channel repeater) provides the high frequency reuse efficiency for allocating frequency bands to repeaters because the frequency of input and output signals of OCRs is the same. However the oscillation probability of OCRs is high due to the same input and output frequency. In order to prevent a repeater from oscillating, we must keep the antenna isolation higher than the gain of the repeater with a some margin. In this paper we simulated the effects of the amplitude, phase and time delay of feedback signals (m the characteristics of non-regeneration OCR. Simulation results show that the highest probability of oscillation is occurred when the gain of a repeater is the same value of the isolation. From the simulation results, we know that the phase of feedback signals can be adjusted to reduce the possibility of oscillation if a non-regeneration repeater has a narrow operation bandwidth or a signal bandwidth is narrow. As the time delay increases, the probability of oscillation and the fluctuation of gain over a certain frequency band increase also. The effects of the amplitude and phase of feedback signals on S/N of 8-VSB signal for generation and non-generation repeater were tested. The measured results show that the set-top can receive 8-VSB signal when the received signal power is $17{\sim}18dB$ higher than the noise power. When the isolation is almost same as the gain of the repeater, then the set-top can not receive 8-VSB signals due to the oscillation of the repeater. And the phase of feedback signals affects S/N at the output of the repeater when the isolation is $11.75{\sim}13.75dB$ larger than the gain of the repeater. In this case the set-top can not receive 8-VSB signal of at $48^{\circ}\;and\;347^{\circ}$ of the phase of feedback signals. However the phase of feedback signals can not affect the S/N of 8-VSB signals of the generation repeater because of the demodulation and modulation process of the generation repenter. The set-top can not receive 8-VSB signals when the amplitude of feedback signals is $12.6{\sim}13.6dB$ larger than the wanted signal power at the input port of the repeater. It's because that the amplitude of feedback signals saturates the front end of the repeater.

  • In this paper, the implementation of location based services (LBS) using S-DMB (satellite-digital multimedia broadcasting) system was proposed. In S-DMB System, the frequency of transmitted signal is about 2 GHz which has a characteristics of strong straightness but weak diffraction so that there are many shade areas such as indoors and underground spaces. Therefore the signal transmitted from the satellite should be retransmitted by the earth repeaters called as gap filler. Because each gap filler has its own identification value, the gap filler ID introduces the area in which the gap filler was installed. Generally, the 51st data symbols of S-DMB pilot signal transmitted from the satellite are padded by dummy value and gap filler ID is embedded in this pilot symbol by the gap filler when S-DMB signals are retransmitted by gap fillers. So using gap filler ID of S-DMB system, LBS such as region registration, distance and time to destination, alarm of local area information could be implemented. In the experiment to prove the performance of the proposed LBS system using the gap filler ID of the S-DMB system, the firmware of S-DMB chip composing of RF and baseband parts was lightly modified so that application processor was able to manipulate the gap filler ID and the its related regional information.

  • The amplification rate of a RF repeater is limited by the feedbacked signals from the same repeater. And an ICS (Interference Cancellation System) repeater has been developed to remove the feedbacked signals. The ICS repeater estimates the amplitudes and the phases of the feedbacked signals and removes the estimated feedback signals from the received input signal of the repeater. However, it requires lots of hardware complexity and this leads to the increase the cost of the repeater. Moreover, the ICS repeater can not solve the pilot pollution problems. To solve these problems, we have studied the implementation and adaptation of smart antenna system for RF repeaters. We have designed a smart antenna system with a switching beam structure in order to reduce the hardware and computational complexity. After analyzing the proposed smart antenna system, we found out that the amplification rate of the proposed repeater increases 23dB compare to the amplification rate of ICS repeater and the output SINR increases 6dB compare to the ICS repeater.

  • In a single frequency network (SFN) for Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) terrestrial digital television (DTV) system, the interferences induced by the multiple transmitters and/or repeaters using the same frequency are inevitable. Since the presence of interferences results in performance degradation of the SFN, it is crucial to manipulate the interferences by adjusting the transmit power and timing of each transmitter and repeater. In the ATSC terrestrial DTV system, in order to facilitate the interference manipulation process, a transmitter identification (TxID) signal which is uniquely embedded in the signal to be transmitted from each transmitter and repeater is recommended. Even though the injection level of the TxID signal is much lower than the DTV signal, the TxID signal injection infects the DTV signal. Hence, the effect of the TxID signal on the DTV signal must be investigated before deployment. In this paper, the effect of the TxID signal on the performance of legacy DTV receivers under additive white Gaussian noise and multipath channel environments is investigated not only with computer simulation but also with laboratory and field tests. The test results show that the average threshold of visibility degradation of the legacy DTV receivers due to the TxID signal injection is less than 0.2 dB at the TxID injection level of -30 dB.

  • The Ministry of Education of Korea announced the university structural reform plans which reduces 160,000 of the university entrance quota during 10 years from January 2014. Because the reduction plans of entrance quota influence regional economy as well as students and universities, naive evidence of the Ministry of Education of Korea is disappointed. In this research, we forecast the total number of the university entrance exam candidate by 2032 including not only third grade high school students but also repeaters according to the 16 metropolises and provinces in Korea. We also forecast the regional university recruiting rate using the forecasts of the total number of the university entrance exam candidates. However, we can not make more realistic results because we can not apply the inter-regional movement of students to the forecast. In order to handle this limitation, we first estimated the rank of the whole 7,277 departments of all universities in Korea and assigned the quotas according to the estimated rank for each departments and then we calculated the local university recruiting rate. The estimated the university recruiting rates of 16 metropolises and provinces can provide more noticeable results of characteristics and problems than that of nationwide.

  • In this paper, we propose a digital transceiver unit design for in-building of 5G optical repeaters that extends the coverage of 5G mobile communication network services and connects to a stable wireless network in a building. The digital transceiver unit for driving the proposed 5G optical repeater is composed of 4 blocks: a signal processing unit, an RF transceiver unit, an optical input/output unit, and a clock generation unit. The signal processing unit plays an important role, such as a combination of a basic operation of the CPRI interface, a 4-channel antenna signal, and response to external control commands. It also transmits and receives high-quality IQ data through the JESD204B interface. CFR and DPD blocks operate to protect the power amplifier. The RF transmitter/receiver converts the RF signal received from the antenna to AD, is transmitted to the signal processing unit through the JESD204B interface, and DA converts the digital signal transmitted from the signal processing unit to the JESD204B interface and transmits the RF signal to the antenna. The optical input/output unit converts an electric signal into an optical signal and transmits it, and converts the optical signal into an electric signal and receives it. The clock generator suppresses jitter of the synchronous clock supplied from the CPRI interface of the optical input/output unit, and supplies a stable synchronous clock to the signal processing unit and the RF transceiver. Before CPRI connection, a local clock is supplied to operate in a CPRI connection ready state. XCZU9CG-2FFVC900I of Xilinx's MPSoC series was used to evaluate the accuracy of the digital transceiver unit for driving the 5G optical repeater proposed in this paper, and Vivado 2018.3 was used as the design tool. The 5G optical repeater digital transceiver unit proposed in this paper converts the 5G RF signal input to the ADC into digital and transmits it to the JIG through CPRI and outputs the downlink data signal received from the JIG through the CPRI to the DAC. And evaluated the performance. The experimental results showed that flatness, Return Loss, Channel Power, ACLR, EVM, Frequency Error, etc. exceeded the target set value.
