  • Orbital TIG welding process being used fur the new construction, the repair of nuclear piping system ana other critical piping. When weld quality is important or there are a large number of similar weld to be made or when access is restricted with manual torch, Orbital TIG welding is most effective process because of practical for out-of-position and high weld quality. Furthermore, typically superior to manual TIG welding process where the pipe remains in place and the tungsten electrode orbits the weld. As smaller and more compact welding head is being developed, could operate in tight spaces and lend itself to this type of application better than any other welding process. Orbital TIG welding has become more and more field practical process.

  • Cast steels have been mainly in rod type couplers which connect railway vehicles. These components, as important members, are exposed to repeat to repeated stresses and impact loading during stop and departure service for a long tie. The coupler suffers fatigue crack initiations and demage that cause need to repair weldment due to these loading conditions. Therefore, the heat affected zone of cast steel couple in rod type were evaluated in view of metallurgical weld characteristics after repair welding at laboratory. The specimens with two different welding techniques were evaluated after several welding conditions and post-heat treatments. Micro-vickers hardness and tensile tests and microstructural observations were conducted on heat affected zone of the weldment according to repair weld and post-heat treatment.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a Half Nozzle Repair(HNR) process to prevent the leakage from welds on small bore piping in Reactor Coolant System. The Codes & Standards of tempered bead and design requirements of J-Groove welds are reviewed. Automatic machine GTAW welding and machining equipments are developed to perform HNR process. Single pass welding and overlay welding equipments are conducted in order to obtain the optimal temper bead welding process parameters with Alloy 52M filler wire. Coarse grain heat affected zone(CGHAZ) is formed by rapid cooling rate in heat affected zone after welding. Accordingly, a proper temper bead technique is required to reduce CGHAZ in 1-Layer of welds by 2- and 3-Layers. Mock-up tests show that the developed HNR process is possible to meet ASME Code & Standard requirements without any defect.

선박용 디젤기관의 주철부품 보수용접 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Characteristics of Repair Welding for Cast Iron Part of Diesel Engine for Ship)

  • Arc welding is sometimes used to repair damaged cast iron parts in diesel engine for driving n ship. In this case cold arc welding is good for saving the time and results in good repairing. But if some difference in hardness on welding zones made with AWS E Ni-CI and NiFe-CI happen, repaired parts would be cracked in a short. In order to overcome this default, the study is performed on varying preheating temperature of welding parts, selecting welding rod and welding work way. The result will be used on ship's working shop.

  • The welding part of the valve needs immediate action when leakage occurs due to cracks or damage. In order to repair leakage of the welding part, the valve must be separated from the pipe or replaced with a new valve. However, it is difficult to remove the valve while operating the power plant. This study presents a method to remove leakage by precisely processing the gap between the clamp and the incision part within 0.1mm while installed in the pipe system. If the external leakage is removed using a clamp on the welding part without removing the valve during operation, the time and cost required for maintenance can be reduced.
