  • Global vegetation change is one of major global concerns. Remote sensing images provide an efficient and useful data source to estimate global vegetation covers, and a number of methods have been proposed to estimate them. Among them, the NDVI is one of the most popular indices, and it is_easy to calculate with simple image computing. However, this index is very much affected by the radiometric environment of sensing such as atmospheric conditions and the sun illumination angle. Therefore, it is not appropriate to apply the NDVI to investigate seasonal changes. This paper discusses these problems and proposes an alternative index, MODVI(Modified Vegetation Index), that is less affected by radiometric environment changes. An experiment was conducted to compare these two indices using temporal Landsat TM sub-scenes.

  • Refocusing methods are used to compensate optical performance degradation of high resolution satellite camera during on-orbit operation. Due to mechanical vibration during launch and thermal vacuum environment of space where camera is exposed, the alignment of optical system may have error. The focusing error is dominant of misalignment and caused by the de-space error of secondary mirror of catoptric camera, which is most sensitive to vibration and space environment. The high resolution camera of SPOT, Pleiades and KOMPSAT2 have refocusing device to adjust focusing during orbital operation while QuickBird of US does not use on orbit refocusing method. For the Korsch type optical configuration which is preferred for large aperture space remote sensing camera, secondary mirror and folding mirror are available as refocusing element.

  • Spent nuclear fuel is very dangerous substance emitting strong ionizing radiation which is harmful to human body. The remote handling of spent nuclear fuel is essential because people cannot access this substance without protecting radiation. To handle highly radioactive material or nuclear waste, many kinds of teleoperators such as master slave manipulator, electro mechanical manipulator, servo manipulator, mobile robot was developed. The distance and dimension of target object cannot be measured easily when highly radioactive material is handled by teleoperator because one should use lead glass or TV camera and monitor to protect radiation and see target object. During experiments on the remote handling of spent nuclear fuel by electro mechanical manipulator, we often felt that a distance and dimension measurement system is necessary to handle the objects which is in the highly radioactive environment, so we developed a system which is appropriate for this purpose.

  • The remote handling and maintenance devices in the nuclear hot ceil should be checked prior to the hot operation in view of reliability and operability. In this study, the digital mock-up is implemented to analyze and define the process equipment maintenance processes instead of real mock-up, which is very expensive and time consuming. To do this, the parts of equipment and maintenance devices are modeled in 3-D graphics, assembled, and kinematics is assigned. Also, the virtual workcell of the spent fuel management process is implemented in the graphical environment which is the same as the real environment. This simulator has the several functions for verification such as analyses for the manipulator's working area, the collision detection, the path planning and graphic simulation of the processes etc. This graphic simulator of the maintenance devices can be effectively used in designing of the maintenance processes for the hot cell equipment and enhance the reliability of the spent fuel management.

  • One of the main cases of the desertification impact is the negative contribution of human activities that worsen environment. There are historical facts of inability and excessive activities which destroyed the civilizations. The basic difference is only in the tempo and scales of civilization collapse. Human pressure was accumulated within the centuries and millennia due to the extremely active economic activities. But today it covers only the decades. Presently the process of desertification has a global scale. There are huge factors of Earth aridization as an increase of the quantity of C02 and atmospheric dust and bloom. This process related not only to the arid areas. Obviously a comprehensive approach of development of territories, particularly arid areas is very important. The use of the satellite information and technologies of remote sensing data processing can take a significant place for decision-makers for calculation and estimation of the environment impacts.

  • A sunken ship often involves an oil spill. This paper was carried out to minimize environmental and cost damages stemming from oil spil of sunken shipl. Through the analysis of both the standards of the oil tank system and installation, we have identified potential oil spill sites and proposed a remedy of prevention. The result of study, the air pipes of the oil tank are a vulnerable point for oil spill. Also, the remote control devices of emergency shut-off valve have poor accessibility at abandon ship, making it difficult to shut off the emergency shut-off valve. Thus, we propose the addition of a remote quick closing valve in the air pipe and the building of a central control system.

  • Trusted Execution Environment(TEE) is an execution environment provided by CPU hardware to gain guarantee that the execution context is as expected by the execution requester. Remote attestation of the execution context naturally arises from the concept of TEEs. Many implementations of TEEs use cryptographic remote attestation methods. Though the implementation of attestation may be simple, the implementation of verification may be very complex and heavy. By using a server delegating the verification process of attestation information, one may produce lightweight binaries that may verify peers and establish a secure channel with verified peers.

  • Today, in the era of the 4th industrial revolution based on the paradigm of hyper-connectivity, super-intelligence, and superconvergence, the remote work environment is becoming central based on technologies such as mobile, cloud, and big data. This remote work environment has been accelerated by the demand for non-face-to-face due to COVID-19. Since the remote work environment can perform various tasks by accessing services and resources anytime and anywhere, it has increased work efficiency, but has caused a problem of incapacitating the traditional boundary-based network security model by making the internal and external boundaries ambiguous. In this paper, we propse a method to improve the limitations of the traditional boundary-oriented security strategy by building a security model centered on core components and their relationships based on the zero trust idea that all actions that occur in the network beyond the concept of the boundary are not trusted.
