Graphic Simulator for Analyzing the Remote Operation of the Advanced Spent Fuel Conditioning Process

  • KAERI is developing the Advanced Spent Fuel Conditioning Process (ACP) as a pre-disposal treatment process for spent fuel. Equipment used for such a spent fuel recycling and management process must operate in intense radiation fields as well as in a high temperature. Therefore, remote maintenance has a played a significant role in this process because of combined chemical and radiological contamination. Hence suitable remote handling and maintenance technology needs to be developed along with the design of the process concepts. To do this, we developed the graphic simulator for the ACP. The graphic simulator provides the capability of verifying the remote operability of the process without fabrication of the process equipment. In other words, by applying virtual reality to the remote maintenance operation, a remote operation task can be simulated in the graphic simulator, not in a real environment. The graphic simulator will substantially reduce the cost of the development of the remote handling and maintenance procedure as well as the process equipment, while at the same time producing a process and a remote maintenance concept that is more reliable, easier to implement, and easier to understand.

  • Because of advanced control technology, Shop floor control system of various kinds of equipment and machinery need a web based remote monitoring to control process efficiently. This paper presents the development of Operation Control System. Operation Control System(OCS) is based on intelligent web monitoring, so that OCS is improved the working condition for the line of heat treatment process and the product's quality. The developed OCS is consisted of Atmega128(MCU) based on embedded system, running the data logging of the line of heat treatment process. Web monitoring system is based on CS8900 ethernet controller and TCP/IP for remote monitoring responsibility between a server and clients and controlling the progress of entire system. The developed OCS is implemented on the line of heat treatment process and shows the improvement of environment condition, product's quality and efficiency of process line.

Through utilizing this graphic simulation in this digital mockup, general guidelines can be established for designing equipment intended for remote handling and maintenance. Also, the designer of the equipment that must be remotely maintained should ensure that there is adequate access to the process equipment. The graphic simulator will substantially reduce the cost of the develo363pment of the remote handling and maintenance procedure as well as the process equipment.

  • Activated sludge processes are widely used in biological wastewater treatment processes. The main motivation of this research is to develop an intelligent control strategy for activated sludge process (ASP). ASP is a complex and nonlinear dynamic system because of the characteristic of wastewater, the change in influent rate, weather conditions, and so on. The mathematical model of ASP also includes uncertainties which are ignored or not considered by process engineer or controller designer. The ASP model based on Matlab/Simulink is designed in this paper. The performance of the model is tested by IWA (International Water Association) and COST (European Cooperation in the filed of Scientific and Technical Research) data that include steady-state results during 14 days. In this paper, fuzzy logic control approach is applied to control the DO (dissolved oxygen) concentration. The fuzzy logic controller that includes two inputs and one output can adjust air flowrate. Also, this paper introduces the remote monitoring and control system that is applied for the CSTR (Continuously Stirred Tank Reactor) wastewater treatment system. The CSTR plant has a local control and the remote monitoring system which is contained communication parts which consist of LAN (Local Area Network) network and CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) wireless module. Remote control and monitoring systems are constructed in the laboratory.

Polymerization of Tetraethoxysilane by Using Remote Argon/dinitrogen oxide Microwave Plasma

  • Polymerization of tetraethoxysilane on a glass substrate was investigated by remote microwave plasma using argon with portions of nitrous oxide as carrier gas. Transparent layer like a thickness of 0.5 ${\mu}m$ 3 ${\mu}m$ were obtained, differing in chemical composition, depending on plasma power and treatment time as well as on ageing time. In general the milder the treatment and the shorter the ageing was, the higher was the content of organic structural elements in the layer. We have identified that the chemical structure of our samples composed of mainly Si O and Si C groups containing aliphatics, carbonyl groups. These results were obtained by X ray photon spectroscopy, Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy, and scanning electron microscope combined with Energy dispersive X ray spectroscopy.

  • 본 연구에서는 도로 지하에 매설되어 있는 $2m{\times}2m$ 정도 규격의 박스형태 암거의 좁은 공간에서 준설작업을 할 수 있는 준설기 개발에 관하여 기술하고자 한다. 개발된 준설기는 버켓 구동식으로 동작하며, 지하에 매설된 암거의 내부를 지상에서 영상을 통해 인식하여 원격 조정이 가능하다. 위험한 작업환경에서도 준설작업이 가능하므로 개발결과를 상용화하고자 한다.

  • 최근 시간적, 공간적, 의료기술 적용의 한계를 극복하기 위하여 의료 기술과 IT 기술의 융합을 시도하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 응급 의료 서비스를 위한 원격 의료 지도를 지원하기 위한 앱을 개발하였다. 개발된 스마트 원격 의료 지도 지원 앱은 원격지에 있는 의사가 응급 구조사로부터 응급 환자의 상황을 실시간으로 전달 받을 수 있다. 또한 환자의 상태 진단 및 응급 치료를 지도할 수 있으며 응급실에서의 대응이 신속하게 이루어질 수 있도록 할 수 있다.

견비통(肩臂痛)에 대한 Trigger Point 자침(刺鍼)과 원위취혈(遠位取穴)의 치료효과(治療效果)에 대한 임상적(臨床的) 비교(比較) 연구(硏究) (Clinical Study of Different Effect between Trigger Point Needling and Remote Acupuncture Point Needling on Shoulder Pain Patient)

  • Objectives : This report is to compare Remote Acupuncture Point Needling group with Trigger Point Needling group about Shoulder pain treatment. Methods : From November 11th 2006 to May 10th 2007, 30 cases of shoulder pain patients were divided into 2 groups ; one group(test I group) took remote acupuncture point needling, and the other group(test II group) took trigger point needling. For evaluating change of pain, Visual Analog Scale(VAS) and clinical evaluation grade and Range of Motion was checked before and after Treatment. Results : Both acupuncture therapy showed good effect on shoulder pain. And test II group showed better effect on decreasing pain than test I group. It was proved by the difference between VAS and ROM checked before treatment and what checked after treatment. But it was only significant statistically for adduction, inversion and eversion of shoulder joint motion. Conclusion : Trigger point needling can be recommended as a useful therapy to treat shoulder pain.

퇴행성 슬관절염의 맞춤형 침구 임상시험 프로토콜 개발을 위한 전화조사 (Telephone Survey for Developing Clinical Trial Protocol on Individualized Acupuncture Treatment for Knee Osteoarthritis)

  • Objectives : This study was accomplished in order to find out how Korean medical doctors take acupuncture prescription for knee osteoarthritis in clinical practice Methods : The survey questions were developed by the consensus from 4 professors and 10 residents who major in acupuncture & moxibustion for developing clinical trial protocol on individualized acupuncture treatment for knee osteoarthritis. 206 persons having more than 10 years experience were randomly selected from a list of Korean medical doctors. Telephone interviews with them were conducted by the well-trained interviewers between May 21 and May 27 in 2005. Results : 139 of 206 Korean medical doctors made an acupuncture prescription prior to treatment of knee osteoarthritis. 103 of 139 Korean medical doctors used both local and remote points, and 26 of them used remote points only, and 10 of them used local points only. In case of doctors who use remote points, the five element (45 of 129) or Saam (28 of 129) acupoints were used dominantly, and its was based on the pattern identification of the Jangbu organs related with the pain (56 of 129) or of the pain location (35 of 129). Conclusion : This study showed that Koran medical doctors prefer to use remote points such as five element or Saam acupoints based on the pattern identification of the Jangbu organs related with the pain or the pain location. These result may be useful for developing protocols for clinical trial on acupuncture on knee osteoarthritis.

Remote digital monitoring during the retention phase of orthodontic treatment: A prospective feasibility study

  • Objective: To evaluate if a remote digital monitoring system added at the end of orthodontic treatment could positively influence the retention phase by reducing the occurrence of misfit of removable appliances, number of emergency appointments (EA), and orthodontic relapse. Methods: Twenty-seven patients who completed active orthodontic treatment were divided into the study and control groups. In addition to the standard chairside follow-up appointments at month 1 (T1), month 3 (T2), month 6 (T3), the study group patients were monitored using Dental Monitoring® with monthly intra-oral scans. Occurrence of misfit of removable retainers, number of EAs, and intercanine width change were recorded for both groups. Differences in EAs and retainer fit were assessed using the chi-square test. Intra-group and inter-group differences in the intercanine width were assessed with Friedman test and Mann-Whitney U test, respectively (α = 0.05). Results: The study group showed a significantly lower occurrence of misfit of removable retainers (p = 0.027) compared to the control group. No significant inter- and intra-group difference was found in the EAs and intercanine width change at each time-point. Conclusions: Integrating remote monitoring systems, such as Dental Monitoring®, to the retention phase of the orthodontic treatment may lower the occurrence of misfit of removable retainers. However, a small sample size and a short observation period limit the strength of this evidence. These preliminary results tentatively suggest that remote monitoring technologies may be beneficial, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, when the regularity of in-office visits might be disrupted.
