The advent of a fourth industrial revolution, built on advances in digital technology, has coincided with studies using various unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) being performed worldwide. However, the accuracy of different sensors and their suitability for particular research studies are factors that need to be carefully evaluated. In this study, we evaluated UAV photogrammetry using smart technology. To assess the performance of digital photogrammetry, the accuracy of common procedures for generating orthomosaic images and digital surface models (DSMs) using terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) techniques was measured. Two different type of non-surveying camera(Smartphone camera, fisheye camera) were attached to UAV platform. For fisheye camera, lens distortion was corrected by considering characteristics of lens. Accuracy of orthoimage and DSM generated were comparatively analyzed using aerial and TLS data. Accuracy comparison analysis proceeded as follows. First, we used Ortho mosaic image to compare the check point with a certain area. In addition, vertical errors of camera DSM were compared and analyzed based on TLS. In this study, we propose and evaluate the feasibility of UAV photogrammetry which can acquire 3 - D spatial information at low cost in a construction site.
As Geographic Information Systems represents three-dimensional topological Information, the systems provide accurate and delicate services for user. In order to execute three-dimensional topological operations, a dimensional transformation and heterogeneous spatial models should be used. However, the existing systems that use the dimensional transformation and the heterogeneous models, are not only difficult to operate the spatial operators, but also happened to support non- interoperability. Therefore, in order to support the spatial operation as well as interoperability between dimensions, we propose three-dimensional spatial operators for the proposed models. We defined the three-dimensional spatial operators prior to designing the proposed model. We also implemented the operators of proposed model and evaluated the implemented model on the component environment. Finally, the proposed model is able to not only support interoperability among systems but also execute spatial queries efficiently on three-dimensional spatial objects.
Ultra Wideband is a new technology from commercial or civilian application viewpoint. It uses already allocated radio spectrum without causing significant interference to other users. It uses very low power, which is below the thermal noise of the receiver and is inherently difficult to detect by un-intentional users. Since, FCC approved the regulation for the commercial use of UWB in February 2002, the development of UWB technology is drastically gaining momentum. However, the technology itself is not new. It has already been used in military applications. UWB has three basic areas of applications, which are communication, positioning and imaging (UWB Microwave). The main commercial application will be for communication since it has very high data transfer rate for short distance. It can also be used for both indoor and outdoor 3-D positioning. Another important application is imaging like microwave remote sensing. An UWB sensor can pass through doors and walls and hence detect the objects inside the room. In this paper, we will introduce about UWB technology along with it’s various possible applications. We will also present some models to generate UWB signal and it’s analysis using signal-processing tools.
The needs for digital models of real environment such as 3D terrain or cyber city model are increasing. Most of applications related with modeling and simulation require virtual environment constructed from geospatial information of real world in order to guarantee reliability and accuracy of the simulation. The most fundamental data for building virtual environment, terrain elevation and orthogonal imagery is acquired from optical sensor of satellite or airplane. Providing interoperable and reusable digital model is important to promote practical application of high-resolution satellite imagery. This paper presents the new research regarding representation of geospatial information, especially for 3D shape and appearance of virtual terrain. and describe framework for constructing real-time 3D model of large terrain based on high-resolution satellite imagery. It provides infrastructure of 3D simulation with geographical context. Web architecture, XML language and open protocols to build a standard based 3D terrain are presented. Details of standard-based approach for providing infrastructure of real-time 3D simulation using high-resolution satellite imagery are also presented. This work would facilitate interchange and interoperability across diverse systems and be usable by governments, industry scientists and general public.
In the present study, the interior orientation parameters were computed by using various kinds of methods. Five DSMs (Digital Surface Models) in total were produced by applying interior orientation parameters to the image processing, and the accuracy was evaluated. In order to use interior orientation parameters as independent variables of DSM accuracy, flight parameters and exterior orientation parameters that can affect the accuracy of DSM were set to be the only fixed variables. From the results of the present study, the RMSE of campaign 3-2 was found to be 0.0305 m, which was the most favorable result. Thus, it is advisable to produce DSM by adjusted interior parameters after figuring out the interior orientation parameters using a camera calibration program at laboratory environment.

In this paper, we described the statistical modeling of crop yields using satellite images, climatic datasets, soil property maps, and fertilizer data for the Midwestern United States during 2001-2012. Satellite images were obtained from the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS), and climatic datasets were provided by the Parameter-elevation Regressions on Independent Slopes Model (PRISM) Climate Group. Soil property maps were derived from the Harmonized World Soil Database (HWSD). Our multivariate regression models produced quite good prediction accuracies, with differences of approximately 8-15% from the governmental statistics of corn and soybean yields. The unfavorable conditions of climate and vegetation in 2012 could have resulted in a decrease in yields according to the regression models, but the actual yields were greater than predicted. It can be interpreted that factors other than climate, vegetation, soil, and fertilizer may be involved in the negative biases. Also, we found that soybean yield was more affected by minimum temperature conditions while corn yield was more associated with photosynthetic activities. These two crops can have different potential impacts regarding climate change, and it is important to quantify the degree of the crop sensitivities to climatic variations to help adaptation by humans. Considering the yield decreases during the drought event, we can assume that climatic effect may be stronger than human adaptive capacity. Thus, further studies are demanded particularly by enhancing the data regarding human activities such as tillage, fertilization, irrigation, and comprehensive agricultural technologies.
Surface albedo is an important parameter of the surface energy budget, and its accurate quantification is of major interest to the global climate modeling community. Therefore, in this paper, we consider the direct solution of kernel based bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF) models for retrieval of normalized reflectance of high resolution satellite. The BRD effects can be seen in satellite data having a wide swath such as SPOT/VGT (VEGETATION) have sufficient angular sampling, but high resolution satellites are impossible to obtain sufficient angular sampling over a pixel during short period because of their narrow swath scanning when applying semi-empirical model. This gives a difficulty to run BRDF model inferring the reflectance normalization of high resolution satellites. The principal purpose of the study is to estimate normalized reflectance of high resolution satellite (RapidEye) through BRDF components from SPOT/VGT. We use semi-empirical BRDF model to estimated BRDF components from SPOT/VGT and reflectance normalization of RapidEye. This study used SPOT/VGT satellite data acquired in the S1 (daily) data, and within this study is the multispectral sensor RapidEye. Isotropic value such as the normalized reflectance was closely related to the BRDF parameters and the kernels. Also, we show scatter plot of the SPOT/VGT and RapidEye isotropic value relationship. The linear relationship between the two linear regression analysis is performed by using the parameters of SPOTNGT like as isotropic value, geometric value and volumetric scattering value, and the kernel values of RapidEye like as geometric and volumetric scattering kernel Because BRDF parameters are difficult to directly calculate from high resolution satellites, we use to BRDF parameter of SPOT/VGT. Also, we make a decision of weighting for geometric value, volumetric scattering value and error through regression models. As a result, the weighting through linear regression analysis produced good agreement. For all sites, the SPOT/VGT isotropic and RapidEye isotropic values had the high correlation (RMSE, bias), and generally are very consistent.
Satellite remote sensing approach can be actively used for forest monitoring. Especially, it is much meaningful to utilize Korea multi-purpose satellites, an independently operated satellite in Korea, for forest monitoring of Korea, Recently, several studies have been performed to exploit meaningful information from satellite remote sensed data via machine learning approaches. The forest information produced through machine learning approaches can be used to support the efficiency of traditional forest monitoring methods, such as in-situ survey or qualitative analysis of aerial image. The performance of machine learning approaches is greatly depending on the characteristics of study area and data. Thus, it is very important to survey the best model among the various machine learning models. In this study, the performance of deep neural network to classify artificial or natural forests was analyzed in Samcheok, Korea. As a result, the pixel accuracy was about 0.857. F1 scores for natural and artificial forests were about 0.917 and 0.433 respectively. The F1 score of artificial forest was low. However, we can find that the artificial and natural forest classification performance improvement of about 0.06 and 0.10 in F1 scores, compared to the results from single layered sigmoid artificial neural network. Based on these results, it is necessary to find a more appropriate model for the forest type classification by applying additional models based on a convolutional neural network.
The rapid climatic changes being caused by global warming are resulting in abnormal weather conditions worldwide, which in some regions have increased the frequency of landslides. This study was aimed to analyze and compare the landslide susceptibility using the Frequency Ratio (FR), Statistical Index, Weight of Evidence, Certainty Factor, and Index of Entropy (IoE) at Woomyeon Mountain in South Korea. Through the construction of a landslide inventory map, 164 landslide locations in total were found, of which 50 (30%) were reserved to validate the model after 114 (70%) had been chosen at random for model training. The sixteen landslide conditioning factors related to topography, hydrology, pedology, and forestry factors were considered. The results were evaluated and compared using relative operating characteristic curve and the statistical indexes. From the analysis, it was shown that the FR and IoE models were better than the other models. The FR model, with a prediction rate of 0.805, performed slightly better than the IoE model with a prediction rate of 0.798. These models had the same sensitivity values of 0.940. The IoE model gave a specific value of 0.329 and an accuracy value of 0.710, which outperforms the FR model which gave 0.276 and 0.680, respectively, to predict the spatial landslide in the study area. The generated landslide susceptibility maps can be useful for disaster and land use planning.

Benthic marine invertebrates, the invertebrates living on the bottom of the ocean, are an essential component of the marine ecosystem, but excessive reproduction of invertebrate grazers or pirate creatures can cause damage to the coastal fishery ecosystem. In this study, we compared and evaluated You Only Look Once Version 7 (YOLOv7), the most widely used deep learning model for real-time object detection, and detection tansformer (DETR), a transformer-based model, using underwater images for benthic marine invertebratesin the coasts of South Korea. YOLOv7 showed a mean average precision at 0.5 (mAP@0.5) of 0.899, and DETR showed an mAP@0.5 of 0.862, which implies that YOLOv7 is more appropriate for object detection of various sizes. This is because YOLOv7 generates the bounding boxes at multiple scales that can help detect small objects. Both models had a processing speed of more than 30 frames persecond (FPS),so it is expected that real-time object detection from the images provided by divers and underwater drones will be possible. The proposed method can be used to prevent and restore damage to coastal fisheries ecosystems, such as rescuing invertebrate grazers and creating sea forests to prevent ocean desertification.
