To gather information, a survey of the technical methods of apartment remodeling in domestic and foreign was conducted. As a case study, three types will be applicable to apartment remodeling: Horizontally expanding remodeling, combining remodeling, conversion remodeling. The results of the study are as follows: 1. Horizontally expanding remodeling type will be applied the dry construction and anchor pile foundation at skeleton and the double flooring at infill. 2. The purpose of this study is to provide the feasibility of apartment remodeling types in DaeJeon City. This study was conducted by survey for the residents' perceptions of the apartment remodeling. In addition, this study estimated the cost according to remodeling types by comparing it with that other apartments in DaeJeon City. By doing so, this study evaluated the feasibility of remodeling. The results of this study are as follows: 1. Not only the level of the residents' perception but also the intention of apartment remodeling was high. 2. The cost of remodeling was similar to that of residents had answered at questionaire. Thus, the remodeling cost proven to be very reasonable. 3. The cost of horizontally expanding remodeling type was cheaper than that of moving within the same apartment complex or into the new apartment. The cost of others (duplex, expansion or reduction of household) are cheaper that of moving. But one of the difficulties in carrying out these types lies in the fact that the remodeling should be performed in the apartment complex or building. Accordingly, this study proposes that horizontally expanding remodeling type is more feasible in DaeJeon City.

Compared with other industries, the construction Industry has many parties(A/E/C) as well as many types of construction activities. Especially, as for the remodeling project, the owner group the remodeling union consists of various stakeholders union and requiring the additional activities of demolition except for the existing new building construction project. Like this, the remodeling project has its own characteristics different from a new building construction project. As for the remodeling project, the Owner's decision making for a remodeling alternative has to be preceded, and other parties are required to propose a remodeling alternative which satisfies the Owner's requirements. However, because of time constraints, many types of problems occur during the decision-making process. In consideration of this, in this research, the authors would like to suggest a decision-making support system to help the Owner's decision-making in the early stage of a remodeling project. For this paper purpose of a remodeling decision-making framework based on Building Information Modeling(BIM) was suggested to help with the Owner's decision-making for each remodeling item and the decision-making support system was evaluated through Case Study.
The building remodeling is providing a lot of solutions - structural, aesthetic, environmental, and energy performance improvement - in improving buildings performance and environment. The remodelings influences on our society are resource conservation, environmental conservation, expansion of construction market, and creation of new employment. The three principal remodeler groups involved in this building remodeling are general construction contractors, interior architecture contractors, and ESCO (Energy Service Company). Having a representative character, this study classifies remodeling methods into five types: structural remodeling, spatial remodeling, exterior remodeling, environment-friendly remodeling, and ecological remodeling.

The study is based on a two-year research study titled 'A study on the Development of the Programs for Housing Policy to support Multi-family Housing Remodeling in Korea'. The primary purpose of this two-year study was to recommend governmental program initiatives for supporting multi-family housing remodeling activities in Korea. As a part of this research study, this article was written based on the results from the two surveys regarding multi-family housing remodeling in the United States and Korea, and a focus group with housing researchers affiliated to the Joint Center for Housing Studies. Major research findings are presented as follows: First, there have been various types of supportive programs for single- and multi-family housing remodeling in the United States. Those have focused on lower income families than middle income families. Compared with the programs in the United States, the apartment remodeling in Korea has been focusing on small population of the multi-family housing owners. Apartment remodeling in Korea needs supportive programs for rental housing remodeling and the housing remodeling for low-incomes. Second, there have been various types of remodeling activities made in multi-family housing properties in the United States. Size of remodeling project also varied. Their remodeling activities were based on the long-term repairing plans initiated by professional apartment management groups. For making our multi-family housing properties more sustainable, we also need to have the long-term repairing plans. Third, the apartment property remodeling has been regarded as a substitute of reconstruction of apartment properties. However, remodeling should be regarded as one of the most efficient ways to extend the life-cycle of apartment buildings. Thus, benefits and executive plans of apartment remodeling should be studied by a professional research center under our governmental responsibilities as done in the United States.
The purpose of this study is to understand the residential needs of family types and to suggest the basic documents for the apartments remodeling, which can be through the actual survey of residential living of old apartments. Generally, they have the residential living pattern according to the family types and the residential space types and it has an effect on the confrontation structure of residential living and residential space. Finally, through the analysis on the confrontation structure of residential living and residential space according to the family types and residential space, we found the residential needs and the family types and the applicable family types and there is some difference the residential needs according to the family types, but no difference according to the entrance types.

In the case of remodeling in deteriorated heating system, the principal decision factor of choice was showed “economics” as priority. Residents in rental apartment preferred remodeling to reconstruction, and unit heating system to central heating system.
The study analyzes the remodeling characteristics of the four different types of secondary kitchens in apartment house based on their floor plans. The secondary kitchens are categorized into side placement, back placement, back placement with extensions on both sides, and back placement with an extension on a single side. The twelve apartment complexes in Ulsan were selected so that they may all consist each of the four types, and answered the survey. The classified traits of secondary kitchen were examined based on the characteristics of floor plan and remodeling. Side placement and back placement with extensions on both sides mostly used glass hinged doors. Back placement and back placement with a single side extension used glass sliding doors. It was found that the majority of the floor materials consisted of both wood and tiles, except for side placements, where only tiles were used. The sizes of the back placements with both and single side extensions were the largest. The side and back placements were rarely renovated, however, back placements with both and single side extensions went through massive remodeling.
Aging in place strategies such as residential remodeling have potential to enable older persons to remain in their own homes satisfactorily in terms of quality of life. The purpose of this study is to investigate the types of residential remodeling, needs, and opinions of elderly households living in Seoul and to suggest the housing policy and system for improving independent living of elderly households. Using face to face interview with structured questionnaire, 115 elderly households were interviewed during April $25{\sim}June$ 25, 2005. Most of respondents wanted to stay in their own homes as long as they can and some of them remodeled their houses to adapt their physical and financial conditions and housing needs. Various factors such as financial problem and lack of knowledge about remodeling process, however, restricted their actions to realize their needs. Based on the results, some suggestions to activate 'aging in place' were proposed as future guidelines of housing policy related to residential remodeling for housing welfare of the elderly.
