  • In this study, a novel systematic design procedure by Genetic Algorithm of a two stage relief valve is proposed. First of all, a mathematical model describing the dynamics of a balanced piston type relief valve has been derived. Governing equations such as dynamic equations for the main spool and the pilot spool and flow equations for each orifice are established. The mathematical model is verified by comparing the results of simulation with that of experiments. Furthermore, influences of the parameters on the dynamic characteristics of a relief valve have been investigated by simulation of the proposed model. Major design parameters on the valve response are determin...

  • Purpose: This study was to review dysmenorrhea and its relief methods in nursing students by using base data for reducing dysmenorrhea. Method: The subjects were 92 students, data were collected by questionnaire surveys using convenience sampling and analyzed by the SPSS 12.0 program. Results: Medium amount of menstruation was most frequently answered and massage on painful sites was the most frequently used relief method(p<0.05). Frequency of medication was once a day during menstrual period, and methods that the most wanted to use when pain got severe was alternative methods(aroma, massage, and acupuncture)(p<0.05). Amount of menstruation showed a negative correlation with the duration(r=-0.32), dysmenorrhea was correlated with the severest days of dysmenorrhea(r=0.24) and the frequency of medication(r=-0.23). Conclusion: These results suggested that dysmenorrhea was correlated with the severest days of dysmenorrhea and the frequency of medication, but other variables showed no relations with menstrual characteristics.

  • In this study relationship between relief angles and chatter vibration in turning was examined by using the direct cutting test, in which the cutting depth of a tapered workpiece is varied continuously and the limiting depth of cut is measured at the time when chatter occurs. Test results reveal that 1) limiting depth of cut increases is proportion to side relief angles between 0$^{\circ}$ and 3$^{\circ}$, 2) limiting depth of cut does not show any evident change in spite of side relief angle increased from 3$^{\circ}$ to 12$^{\circ}$, 3) also limiting depth of cut does not change despite front angle change from 0$^{\circ}$ to 12$^{\circ}$.

  • An intra-articular lumbar facet joint block with a local anesthetic and asteroid is a reliable method of diagnosis and therapy for low back pain and/or sciatica caused by lumbar facet arthropathy under fluoroscopy. We injected 40 mg of methylperdnisolone acetate and 1 ml of 0.5% bupivacaine into each lumbar facet joint to 14 patients. The results are as follows: 1) Excellent pain relief in 2 patients (14.29%) 2) Good pain relief in 6 patients (42.85%) 3) Fair pain relief in 4 patients (28.57%) 4) Non effective pain relief in 2 patients (14.29%).

  • To improve the practical application of the thermal expansion of closed long pipeline exposing to external heating sources such as solar energy, safety engineering and system optimization for relief valve in the closed piping system are suggested through theoretical approach, correlation in view of temperature and pressure increase caused by external solar energy in the closed piping system. The profile for thermal relief valve including relieving capacity, influx heat energy, sizing criteria, set pressure, selection against back pressure is also presented. It is noted that following topic on solar relief valve should be applied to engineering, installation and commissioning.

  • We have designed the vent relief valve to set bi-level safety pressure for oxidizer tank. The minimum cavity volume was calculated to reduce the pressure deviation, and the valve operation characteristics was analyzed by using modeling. We have a plan to manufacture the validation model based on the analysis results.

  • In this study, a variable elasticity spring was applied to improve the pressure control precision of conventional relief valves. The equilibrium equation of the forces acting on the valve poppet was derived; it is demonstrated that matching the elastic rate of the pressure-adjusting coil spring to the equivalent elastic rate of the flow force improved the pressure override. The procedures that were used to design the variable elasticity spring are presented, and some applications of the variable elasticity spring are also introduced. Computer simulations were used to analyze three cases: a poppet-closed flow force structure, a poppet-open flow force structure with a constant elasticity spring, and a structure containing a variable elasticity spring. It is confirmed that the pressure control precision of the relief valve can be significantly improved upon by applying a variable elasticity spring to the poppet-open flow force structure.

  • Attaching shelf to retaining structure leads to a decrease in the total lateral earth pressure. This decrease enables the retaining structures to become more stable, to have small displacement, and to exhibit lower bending moments, the relief shelves effects are analyzed using FEM in order to understand how they stabilize cantilever wall in this study. Several models are varied by changing location and width of shelves to realize earth pressure and displacements of retaining wall. The displacement is getting smaller because earth pressure acting on shelf increases as shelves locations are lower and width is longer. The ground settlement variation effects caused by relief shelves are studied also. The ground settlement increases abruptly where shelf location is between of 0.5H and 0.625H, and settlement decreases suddenly where shelf width is between b/h=0.375 and b/h=0.500. The shelf significantly reduces earth pressure and movement of the wall. This decrease in the lateral pressure increases the retaining structure stability.

  • A flare system is a very important system that crucially affects on the process safety in chemical plants. If a flare system is designed too small, it cannot prevent catastrophic accidents of a chemical plant. On the other hand, if a flare system is designed too large, it will waste resources. Therefore, reasonable relief load estimation has been a crucial issue in the industry. American Petroleum Institute (API) suggests basic guidelines for relief load estimation, and a lot of engineering companies have developed their own relief load estimation methods that use an unbalanced heat and material method. However, these methods have to involve lots of conservative assumptions that lead to an overestimation of relief loads. In this study, the new design procedure for a flare system based on dynamic simulation was proposed in order to avoid the overestimation of relief loads. The relief load of a deethanizer process was tested to verify the performance of the proposed design procedure.

  • High-speed trains have been developed widely in many countries in order to transport large quantity of people and commodities rapidly. When a high speed train enters a tunnel, aerodynamic resistance is generated suddenly. The resistance caused from air pressure induces micro pressure wave and discomfort to passengers in a train. Therefore, a pressure relief system should be installed in a tunnel to reduce the resistance acting against the running train in a tunnel. Additionally, the shape of a grain should be streamlined in order to reduce aerodynamic resistance caused by a high-speed train. The cross-section of a tunnel also should be carefully designed to reduce discomfort of passengers. This study represents the effect of pressure relief ducts installed between two running tunnels. The pressure relief duct was integrated with a cross-passage in order to save cost and construction time. One-dimensional network numerical simulations were carried out in order to estimate the effect of pressure relief systems.
