  • An algorithm is presenter for generating the most probable states in decreasing order of probability of each unit. The proposed new algorithm in this note is compared with the existing methods regarding memory requirement and execution time. Our method is simpler and, judging from the computing experiment, it requires less memory size than the previously known methods and takes comparable execution time to previous methods for an acceptable level of criterion.

  • Electric industry has been the object of major reforms in many countries. These reforms are aimed at attaining efficiency through competition. Thus network companies do not charge transmission cost for line user the same as method at past. This paper presents a transmission cost allocation through reliability differentiated transmission pricing in competitive electric industry. The proposed method considers only the line capacity affecting the reliability of transmission pricing under normal state and contingency state.

  • Three general algorithms for evaluating the reliability for complex bridge system are proposed. These methods, such as Keystone, Boolean, Network algorithms are powerful and effective to derive an reliability expression for many practical complex systems. The combination approach of RBD and FTA proposed in this paper provides an effective way to evaluate the functional dependency for applications of FMEA.

  • This study examined the use of Facebook in United Arab Emirates. There were two objectives of this study. The first purpose was to identify the motive for the use of Facebook among people in U.A.E. This study conducted the survey using both qualitative and quantitative methods. One hundred eighty-three working people were used from the survey. Thirty-five questions identified from the interviews were used for the questionnaire design in quantitative method. Factor analysis showed six factors namely usefulness, usage, reliability, making new friends, ethical issue and openness of information. The total variance explained by all the factors was fifty-two percent. This study also examined the demographic variables whether they would play an important role in using the social network site. The study included two more variables, income and married status, which were not frequently examined by previous studies. MANOVA showed statistical significant differences (p < .01) across six factors. ANOVA results showed that gender variable affected only the factor of openness of information. Males were more likely to share their information compared to females. Income variable affected all the factors except the openness of information. The results showed that high-income people had the highest meanscores on three factors (usage, reliability, making new friends) while low-income people had the highest means on usefulness and ethical factors.Marital status had significant effects on usefulness, reliability, and ethical factors. Married people had the low scores on reliability and ethical factors. Lastly, education variable had no effect on all the factors examined.

  • Almost all existing software reliability models are based on the assumptions of he software usage and software failure process. There, therefore, is no universally applicable software reliability model. To develop a universal software reliability model this paper suggests the predictive filter as a general software reliability prediction model for time domain failure data. Its usefulness is empirically verified by analyzing the failure datasets obtained from 14 different software projects. Based on the average relative prediction error, the suggested predictive filter is compared with other well-known neural network models and statistical software reliability growth models. Experimental results show that the predictive filter generally results in a simple model and adapts well across different software projects.

  • This investigation deals with reliability and sensitivity analysis of a repairable embedded system with standby wherein repairman takes multiple vacations. The hardware system consists of 'M' operating and 'S' standby components. The repairman can leave for multiple vacations of random length during its idle time. Whenever any operating unit fails, it is immediately replaced by a standby unit if available. Moreover, governing equations of an embedded system are constructed using appropriate birth-death rates. The vacation and repair time of repairman are exponentially distributed. The matrix method is used to find the steady-state probabilities of the number of failed components in the embedded system as well as other performance measures. Reliability indexes are presented. Further, numerical experiments are carried out for various system characteristics to examine the effects of different parameter. Using a special class of neuro-fuzzy systems i.e. Adaptive Network-based Fuzzy Interference Systems (ANFIS), we also approximate various performance measures. Finally, the conclusions and future research directions are provided.

  • Distributed Control System(DCS) is one of the best solutions to implement control systems because it provides continuous observation of control process and execution of commands to induce proper operations. In this paper, a design of control network for DCS in nuclear power plant is proposed. The proposed control network on DCS has a simple architecture and deterministic property. Thus, the proposed control network offers hard real-time periodic service. It also has redundant media for the fault-tolerance. As a result, high safety and reliability required in nuclear power plant are guaranteed.

  • Performance index is a measure of telecommunications network integrating reliability and capacity simultaneously. This paper suggests a computerized algorithm evaluating a performance index for telecommunications network and compares this computerized algorithm with the algorithm[1] by experimenting on several benchmarks. A computerized algorithm proposed by this paper is superior to the algorithm[1] with respect to the computation time for most of the benchmarks.

  • Smart Grid is grafting IT(information technology) techniques on existing electric power network, supplier and the consumer to do real-time exchange of information lead to both direction and energy efficiency optimization, it is a next potential electric power network method. Because of applying various distributed electric power sources, the electric power network system will follow in size and it is dispersive and it will operate independently, and it become the intelligent electric power network, which in consumer demand reacts at real-time, because of using various sensors. In this article explain concept, features, and contemporary background of Smart Grid, and describe improve reliability of the electric power quality.

  • Multilayer neural network using a modified beackpropagation learning algorithm was introduced to achieve automatic identification of different types of aircraft in a variety of 3-D orientations. A 3-D shape of an aircraft can be described by a library of 2-D images corresponding to the projected views of an aircraft. From each 2-D binary aircraft image we extracted 2-D invariant (L, Φ) feature vector to be used for training neural network aircraft classifier. Simulations concerning the neural network classification rate was compared using nearest-neighbor classfier (NNC) which has been widely served as a performance benchmark. And we also introduced reliability measure of the designed neural network classifier.
