Owing to the limits of IT System-driven knowledge management(KM) for innovation processes, alternative KM methods has been suggested such as: (1) the knowledge network of experts or (2) communities-of-practice. This study analyzes two cases in terms of on-line expert knowledge networks for problem-solving, with the dimensions of analysis based on a theoretical framework. By analyzing the cases of S company's expert network and Naver's Ji-sik-iN, we found that system quality(e.g., ease of use, accessibility, and searching function), information/knowledge quality(e.g., usefulness, accuracy, and timeliness), knowledge-sharing culture, social capital and relevant reward systems are important for stimulating a Q&A-based problem-solving knowledge network. Implications of the findings and future research directions are discussed.
This paper is structured into three main parts and a conclusion. The main section provide definitions of efficiency, effectiveness and performance in terms of the distribution channel, followed by a review of related performance measurement, before discussing difficulties of measurement. According to the theoretical approach, it appears that key theroretical issues are centered around customer service, logistics excellence, time compression, the use of IT, and a move towards integrated logistics. The empirical approach shows that in the past, various financial performance indicators were regarded as relevant management information. However, today, management needs additional performance indicators. Therefore, external assessments of effectiveness must be performed to measure customers' satisfaction with the physical flow of product through the distribution channel network. So, what is needed is to take previous normative and explorative research and progress through a framework by developing valid measures of distribution channel's effectiveness and efficiency, and identifying research methodologies suited to the data collection requirements.
We have investigated a relationship between conformational preferences of various substituents in monosubstituted cyclohexanes and pertinent torsional parameter values in molecular mechanics calculations. We have manipulated torsional parameters to supply a certain energy difference between gauche and anti conformers, and applied those parameters to monosubstituted cyclohexanes. After investigating 6 different substituents, namely Me, SiH3, F, Cl, Br, and I, MM3 calculations show that (1) the MM3 calculated A values with the current torsional parameters reproduce the available experimental values well, (2) the conformational energy difference between axial and equatorial conformations (the A value) correlates perfectly with the gauche/anti energy differences of the corresponding butane-like fragment (correlation coefficient=l.000), and (3) the A values are essentially twice as the gauche/anti energy differences (slopes=1.86-2.00). On the basis of our analysis, the A values as well as the gauche/anti energy differences are easily calibrated by an adjustment of the relevant torsional parameter. Thus, our technique for tuning the torsional parameters may be of great use in updating molecular mechanics results about conformational preferences whenever a further refinement is necessary.
Innovated utilization of Korean kaolins as pharmaceuticals is attempted, for which relevant properties including adsorptive behaviours are observed in connection with their mineralogical structures. In practice, physico-chemical properties are assessed by means of IR, XRD and thermal analysis including DTA, TG and DSC. Elemental analysis of the ore specimens under investigation is carried out in conventional manners. It is found that the chemical compositions are varied significantly with sampling sites and primary classifications. The clay ores thus analyzed are mainly composed of halloysite species. Proper benefication of the raw clays is necessary so that authentic requirements for medicinal use may be satisfied. White-colored premium grade halloysite could be utilized as therapeutics with relative ease after purification. Evidence indicates that gibbsite-like impurities are intercalated between the 1 : 1 layered moieties. Thermal behaviours may be characterized in such a fashion that loss of free water occurs near 100.deg. C and further heatings result in liberation of bound water near 500.deg. C, with subsequent transformation into amorphous metastable entities. Through thermal activation, enhanced pharmaceutical effects could be envisaged.
This study was described for measuring clinically relevant levels of glucose in undiluted plasma and whole blood by near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. Result from an initial measurement of major blood components powder was over-lapped the absorption bands of glucose at 1500-1600 nm. However, the NIR data of blood components were clearly separated by principle component analysis (PCA) space. By the use of partial least squares (PLS) regression, glucose concentrations in undiluted plasma and whole blood could be determined with standard errors of prediction (SEP) of 15 mg/dl and 76 mg/dl, respectively. Although these blood components possessed strong absorption bands that overlapped with the absorption bands of glucose, successful calibration models could be carried out.
This paper seeks to provide a comprehensive review of the international rules of law on the obligations of confidentiality and its exceptions in international commercial arbitration, including the Riddick principle stemming from the common law jurisdiction. To this end, this article examines and analyzes developed countries' arbitration legislation including relevant case laws and the most recent leading institutional rules. Given the fact that the increasing use of discovery in international commercial arbitration and that the parties and practitioners in civil law countries are not familiar with the concept of the Riddick principle and its implied undertaking to a court, this article introduces the concept of the Riddick principle with some analysis for the recent case laws. Finally, this paper makes some suggestions to strengthen the compliance of confidentiality in international commercial arbitration by introducing new rules on confidentiality, inter alia, sanctions for breaching of the obligations of confidentiality.
Photoplethysmography (PPG) is a noninvasive technique that can be used to conveniently measure heart rate (HR) and thus obtain relevant health-related information. However, developing an automated PPG system is difficult, because its waveforms are susceptible to motion artifacts and between-patient variation, making its interpretation difficult. We use deep neural network (DNN) filters to mimic the cognitive ability of a human expert who can distinguish the features of PPG altered by noise from various sources. Systolic (S), onset (O), and first derivative peaks (W) are recognized by three different DNN filters. In addition, the boundaries of uninformative regions caused by artifacts are identified by two different filters. The algorithm reliably derives the HR and presents recognition scores for the S, O, and W peaks and artifacts with only a 0.7-s delay. In the evaluation using data from 11 patients obtained from PhysioNet, the algorithm yields 8643 (86.12%) reliable HR measurements from a total of 10 036 heartbeats, including some with uninformative data resulting from arrhythmias and artifacts.
Catastrophic events cause casualties, damage property, and lead to huge social impacts. To build common standards and facilitate international communications regarding disasters, the relevant authorities in social management rank them in subjectively imposed terms such as direct economic losses and loss of life. Terrorist attacks involving uncertain human factors, which are roughly graded based on the rule of property damage, are even more difficult to interpret and assess. In this paper, we collected 114 183 open-source records of terrorist attacks and used a machine learning method to grade them synthetically in an automatic and objective way. No subjective claims or personal preferences were involved in the grading, and each derived common factor contains the comprehensive and rich information of many variables. Our work presents a new automatic ranking approach and is suitable for a broad range of gradation problems. Furthermore, we can use this model to grade all such attacks globally and visualize them to provide new insights.

From dye-assisted conventional chromoendoscopy to novel virtual chromoendoscopy, image-enhanced endoscopy (IEE) is continuously evolving to meet clinical needs and improve the quality of colonoscopy. Dye-assisted chromoendoscopy using indigo carmine or crystal violet, although slightly old-fashioned, is still useful to emphasize the pit patterns of the colonic mucosa and predict the histological structures of relevant lesions. Equipment-based virtual chromoendoscopy has the advantage of being relatively easy to use. There are several types of virtual chromoendoscopy that vary depending on the manufacturer and operating principle. IEE plays distinctive roles with respect to histologic characterization of colorectal polyps and prediction of the invasion depth of colorectal cancers. In addition, the newest models of IEE have the potential to increase adenoma and polyp detection rates in screening colonoscopy.
