Stationkeeping of an Airship

  • The airship is starting to receive new highlights as a stable floating platform. A floating platform can serve as a telecommunication relay station or an environmental outpost. Much of these operations require unmanned autonomous operation on the airship. Due to difficulties in modelling and identifying the airship, controlling the airship is not an easy task. Different from the normal aircraft, the airship is affected by "added mass" and buoyancy. The added mass is the additional mass felt required to move the object in a fluid. As we are searching for a stable floating platform, controlling the airship to keep station is critical. We use a simple airship model with added mass for simulation. Classical controller is used to find acceptable airship performances.

  • When a power system experiences a serious disturbance on insufficient power, the system frequency may drop. For system frequency will be maintain standard value, under_frequency relay will reconstruct balance of power and load by load shedding. Currently load shedding scheme is due to establishment plan by fixed scenario. Where compare current scheme with past scheme, system frequency should be recovered by load shedding using rate of frequency decline. This paper suggests the dynamic load shedding scheme by using the rate of change of frequency when The Korea Electric power system is happened the large disturbance.

  • The second harmonic component is commonly used for blocking differential relay in power transformers. However, it is difficult to distinguish between inrush and internal winding fault with differential current protective relaying. This paper proposed a new method using Nuro-Fuzzy System based on HCM(Hard C-Means). The proposed system is more objective and systematic than existing model. The data used in input are 3-phase primary voltage and fundamental harmonic of differential current. Various states of transformer are simulated using BCTRAN and HYSDAT of EMTP. As a result of the application of algorithm in various cases, the exact discrimination between internal winding fault and inrush is performed.

  • A drum level control is one of the most important control systems in thermal power plant. The control objective of drum level of boiler in thermal power plant is to maintain drum level at constant set-point regardless of disturbance such as main steam flow. The implemented drum level controller is the cascade PI controller. The important factor in drum level controller is the parameters of two PI controllers. The tuning of PI controller parameter is tedious and time-consuming job. In this paper, the relay feedback Ziegler - Nichols tuning method extended to auto-tune cascade PI drum level controller. Finally, the simulation result using boiler model in Power Plant shows the validity of auto-tuned cascade PI controller.

  • Harmonic current originating from electric locomotives can be magnified due to the impedance characteristics of power supply circuit and bring about various problems. That is, electromagnetic interference with communication lines, operational trouble in signaling, overheat and/or vibration in power capacitor, mis-operation in protection relay and so on. Therefore, the exact assessment of the harmonic current flow must be undertaken at design and planning stage for the electric traction systems. For these reasons, this study propose a new approach to model and to analyse traction power feeding system focused on system response to current and voltage harmonic(PART I ). Measurements of harmonics are also performed for railway power supply systems under normal operation. Spectrum and distortion analyses in measurement data are variously described in PART II

  • This research is to select a path planning algorithm to maximize survivability for Unmanned Aerial Vehicle(UAV). An UAV is a powered pilotless aircraft, which is controlled remotely or autonomously. UAVs are currently employed in many military missions(surveillance, reconnaissance, communication relay, targeting, strike etc.) and a number of civilian applications(communication service, broadcast service, traffic control support, monitoring, measurement etc.). In this research, a mathematical programming model is suggested by using MRPP(Most Reliable Path Problem) and verified by using ILOG CPLEX. A path planning algorithm for UAV is selected by comparing of SPP(Shortest Path Problem) algorithms which transfer MRPP into SPP.

  • The system improves the safety and efficiency of railway transport, combining the advanced axle-counter with single-track semiautomatic block. Using computer, to accomplish relay-based semiautomatic block logic operation and axle-counter to check section status, it will further increase the performance of railway transport. Safety-related communication is one of the important topics in railway signal system. By referring to relevant safety-related communication standards, to research on safety-related communication of Micro-computer automatic block between Railway Stations System, the thesis introduces the basic requirements, concept model, codes, and the process, etc.

DiffServ-Aware Pricing for Wireless Internet

  • In this work we propose a new pricing scheme for the wireless Internet services over WiMAX system. First, let us review the characteristics of wireless network which is based on multi-hop relay WiMAX system. Next, we show why usage-based and QoS-aware pricing scheme is needed in the wireless Internet. After that, we propose a theoretical model for the price of multimedia services called a DAP (DiffServ-aware pricing) scheme for the WiMAX multimedia network which takes into account the consumed radio resource of WiMAX system as well as the supported QoS in the IP backbone network. Finally, we present explicit formulae for the packet price, price of consumed radio resource, and price of consumed bytes.

Wireless Ad-hoc Networks Using Cooperative Diversity-based Routing in Fading Channel

  • We propose new routing scheme, Cooperative Diversity-based Routing (CDR)which utilize the cooperative space diversity for power saving and for performance enhancement of wireless ad-hoc networks. The end-to-end performance of the proposed routing, CDR, is analyzed based on the Haenggi's link model. The improved performance is compared with Multi-hop Relay Routing (MRR) by analytical methods. When the required outage probability is $1{\times}10^{-3}$ at the destination node in ad-hoc networks with 7 nodes, we noticed that each node can save power consumption by 21.5 dB in average, by using our proposed CDR compared to MRR.
