  • This paper describes resonant mode selection with which the relative permittivity can be measured exactly. To measure the relative permittivity, a circular cylindrical cavity filled with dielectric material is used. When the circular cylindrical cavity is filled with the dielectric material, the air gap occurs on account of machining error. Accurate relative permittivity can be obtained by using less sensitive mode in resonant frequency variation by the air gap. As a result, Average 0.009% resonant frequency variation in the vertical and the radial direction appears at $TE_{011}$ mode. It is interesting that the frequency variation by the air gap at $TE_{011}$ mode turns out to be the least sensitive.

  • In the sub-surface environments, detection of the movement of contaminant substances and recharge of groundwater by rainfall are very important factors which contain porosity and effective porosity of porous media. In this paper, the applicability of permittivity methods and proposed dielectric mixing models (DDMs) are discussed. This study showed that the ratio of effective porosity to porosity of Toyoura and River sands were 0.856 and 0.843. From the relationships between the relative porosity and effective porosity, all measured values can be confirmed to outside the range to about 0.800 for Toyoura and River sands under all experiments by FDR and FDR-V systems. In the study, this permittivity equipment can be considered to be good enough to measure determining the physical parameters of saturated soils. Consequently, this permittivity method can be contributed to estimate a porosity and effective porosity of saturated porous media because it is easy and instantaneous than previous in-situ methods.

  • This paper represents the effect analysis results of surface-Icing on the UHF-band antenna for Space Launch Vehicle. In order to obtain structural model of the surface-icing, Relative Permittivity of ice at $-180^{\circ}C$ was extracted. Using this surface-Icing model, UHF-band antenna simulation and comparative analysis about the antenna parameters such as resonance frequency, reflection loss and radiation pattern were performed for each case of with or without surface-icing. Simulation results show that resonance frequency is shifted out of operation frequency due to the additional ice permittivity. This resonance frequency changes cause severe affect to the antenna performance and its radiation pattern.

  • The variation of ground-penetrating radar(GPR) signal characteristics from dielectric-filled nonmetallic pipes buried in inhomogeneous ground are compared through a numerical simulation. The relative permittivity distribution of the ground is generated by using the continuous random media(CRM) technique. As a function of the relative permittivity of the material filling the nonmetallic pipe buried in the ground media, GPR signals are simulated by using the finite-difference time-domain(FDTD) method. We show that, unlike the case for homogeneous ground, the distortion characteristics of the reflected waves caused by the front convex surface and the rear concave surface of the pipe buried in inhomogeneous ground are different depending on the permittivity contrast between the inside and outside of the pipe.

  • In this letter, we study the contemporary technologies for making ferroelectric films and the possibility of using the oscillator model of PZT-22 to analyze its ferroelectric properties. The material showed permittivity dispersion at 65 KHz and 88.5 KHz. We obtained relative attenuation ${\gamma}$, relaxation time ${\tau}$, and ${\varepsilon}_{max}$ of the material as 0.0008319, 0.5 s, and 603.438, respectively.

  • This paper described the capacitive sensor for the diagnosis of deterioration of electrical insulating oils applying guard-ring type the 3-terminal electrodes. To measure stable capacitance of the sensor and to determine the design factors of the sensor, we utilized computational analysis, FEM software. This capacitive sensor discern the extent of deterioration measuring relative permittivity of electrical insulating oils. The result of measuring numerous sample, mineral oils, as serviced year, we confirmed an increase in relative permittivity of oils. Moreover, we confirmed the superior characteristics of the sensor as a species, aged pattern of oils and operating temperature.

  • We analyzed wideband propagation characteristics of a microstrip transmission line based on FR-4 composite substrate using the wideband complex dielectric constant model and the phenomenological loss equivalence method. The loss calculated by constant relative permittivity and loss tangent is greatly overestimatd compared to that calculated by the frequency-dependent complex relative permittivity. This wideband analysis can be helpful to characterize high-speed and high-density transmission lines associated with the wideband dielectric characteristics and shows that the FR-4 composite substrate has high potential of high frequency circuit applications in terms o fthe propagation loss.

  • Broad-band RAM's (Radar absorbing materials) are designed by multi-layered lossy dielectrics. The depth, the relative permittivity and the loss tangent of each layer are optimized in order to meet the required reflective power over the specified frequency range using a genetic algorithm. The reflection coefficients are calculated by the continued fraction method. A new population model of the partial initialization method during iterations is applied for the multi-modal functions to enhance the performance of the genetic algorithm. The optimal RAN's are designed by setting the relative permittivity and the loss tangent of the dielectrics as a funtion of the frequency over 5~20GHz.

  • Thin films of polyamic acid(PAA) were fabricated by vapor deposition polymerization(VDP) from pyromellitic dianhydride(PMDA) and 4,4'-diamino diphenyl ether(DDE). Thin films of polyimide(PI) were obtained by curing PAA, and their dielectric properties have been measured. The uniform thin films of PI formed by curing PAA at 300 .deg. C for 1 hr. which was confirmed by Fourier transform Infrared spectroscopy(FT-IR) absorption at 720, 1380, 1780c $m_{-1}$. Relative permittivity and tan .delta. were 3.9 and 0.008 at 10kHz, respectively. (author). 8 refs., 11 figs., 1 tab.1 tab.
