A study on the performance of variable damper type suspension for tracked vehicle (가변댐퍼식 궤도차량용 현수장치의 성능에 관한 연구)

  • The feasibility of using fluidic components for improving certain performance characteristics of the suspension systems for tracked vehicle is investigated. This study describes three variable damping systems for which the damping coefficients are function of relative velocity and absolute a of the vehicle body. Through the comparison analysis between constant damping coefficient damper and each of variable dampers. the followings were found: (1)Fluidic Diode Damper gave less accelerations, (2)Both Fluidic Diode Damper and Relative Velocity Damper gave the less time for which the wheel is off the ground, (3) At low vehicle velocity Fluidic Diode Damper gave low energy dissipation rate, while at high vehicle velocity Turbulence Accelerometer Damper gave low energy dissipation rate.

  • A vehicle longitudinal control strategy with guaranteed string stability for vehicle stop-and-go(SG) cruise control is presented in this paper. The SG cruise control systems should be designed such that string stability can be guaranteed in addition to that every vehicle in a string of SG cruise control vehicles must track any bounded acceleration and velocity profile of its preceding vehicle with a bounded spacing and velocity error. An optimal vehicle following control law based on the information of the 1311owing distance (clearance) and its velocity relative to the vehicle ahead (relative velocity) has been used and string stability analysis has been done based on the control law and constant time gap spacing policy, A validated multi-vehicle simulation package has been shown that the string stability analysis using the approximate model of the vehicle servo-loop which includes vehicle powertrain and brake control system dynamics is valid in the design of the SG cruise control law with guaranteed string stability.

Applicability of Coda Wave Interferometry Technique for Measurement of Acoustoelastic Effect of Concrete

  • In this study, we examined the applicability of coda wave interferometry (CWI) technique, which was developed to characterize seismic waves, to detect and evaluate change in the velocity of ultrasonic waves in concrete due to acoustoelastic effect. Ultrasonic wave measurements and compressive loading tests were conducted on a concrete specimen. The measured wave signals were processed with CWI to detect and evaluate the relative velocity change with respect to the stress state of the specimen. A phase change due to the acoustoelastic effect of concrete was clearly detected in the late-arriving coda wave. This shows that the relative velocity change of ultrasonic waves in concrete due to the acoustoelastic effect can be evaluated successfully and precisely using CWI.

  • Thispapr proposes hybrid navigation parameter estimation using sequential aerial images. The proposed navigation parameter estimation system is composed of two parts: relative position estimation and absolute position estimation. the relative position estimation recursively computes the current velocity and absolute position estimation. The relative position estimation recursively computes the current velocity and position of an aircraft by accumulating navigation parameters extracted from two succesive aerial images. Simple accumulation of parameter values decreases reliability of the extracted parameters as an aircraft goes on navigating. therefore absolute position estimation is required to compensate for position error generated in the relative position step. The absolute position estimation algorithm combining image matching and digital elevation model(DEM) matching is presented. Computer simulation with real aerial image sequences shows the efficiency of the proposed hybrial algorithm.

  • Collision warning systems have been an active research and development area as the interests and demands for ASV's (Advanced Safety Vehicles) have increased. This paper presents an experimental investigation of a collision warning system for automobiles. A collision warning HiLS(Hardware-in-the-Loop Simulation) system has been designed and used to test the collision warning algorithm, radar sensors, and warning displays under realistic operating conditions in the laboratory. the collision warning algorithm is operated by a warning index, which is a function of the warning distance and the braking distance. The computer calculates velocities of the preceding vehicle and following vehicle, relative distance and relative velocity of the vehicles using vehicle simulation models. The relative distance and the relative velocity are applied to the vehicle simulator controlled by a DC motor.

  • Factors governing the rate of heat exchange comprise the air temperature, the speed of air movement, relative humidity, and relation indoors. Recently, there are many researches on the transient analysis of indoor environmental factors such as the dry bulb temperature, relative humidity and air velocity in miniature models. The purpose of this study is to measure the environmental factors and to analyze and evaluate the characteristics of indoor environment with the different envelope structures using a granite dome model. According to the variation of humidity, the state of interior relative humidity for clay model has an equal tendency, although a little range of variation is shown in comparison to the cement model.

  • The atomizing characteristics in a spray injected from a twin fluid atomization nozzle have been investigated. The Sauter mean diameters as mean diameter are compared with wavelength calculated from the instability theory. The Sauter mean diameter are measured by the Fraunhofer diffraction theory using the Malvern particle sizer. The wavelength is calculated using the mean relative velocity instead of the exit relative velocity of nozzle. Also shadowgraphy technique is used to visualize atomization. This paper gives a possibility that the mean diameter can be predicted with the wavelength obtained by the simple instability theory.

  • Measurements errors due to sound velocity effect on vibrating gas densimeters were described. Nitrogen was used to calibrate the densimeter, and oxygen was employed to determine a coefficient for the compensation of sound velocity effect. Sound velocity effects were shown with methane at temperatures of 7.97, 19.93 and 39.57 .deg. C, and pressures up to 3.6 Mpa. A relative error of about 1% was introduced when the nitrogen calibrated densimeter was used to measure densities of pure methane. A method of sound velocity effect compensation was able to reduce the error down to 0.1%.

A curtain traveling pluviator to reconstitute large scale sand specimens

  • The preparation of repeatable and uniformly reconstituted soil specimens up to the specified conditions is an essential requirement for the laboratory tests. In this study for large samples replication, the simultaneous usage of the traveling pluviation and curtain raining technique is used to develop a new method, called the curtain travelling pluviator (CTP). This simple and cost effective system is based on the air pluviation approach, whilst reducing the sample production time, can reproduce uniform samples with relative densities ranging from 25% to 96%. In order to investigate the resulting suitability and uniformity from the proposed method, a series of tests is performed. The effect of curtain traveling velocity, curtain width, drop height, and flow rate on the parameters of the sample is thoroughly investigated. Increase in the curtain velocity and drop height leads to the increase in relative density for the sand specimen. Increase in curtain width typically resulted in the reduction of relative density. Test results reveal that the terminal drop height for the sand specimen in this study is more than 500 mm. Relative density contour lines are presented that can be utilized in optimizing the drop height and curtain width parameters. Sample uniformity in the vertical and horizontal orientation is investigated through the sampling containers. Increasing relative density tends to result in the higher sample repeatability and uniformity.

A Study on Curvature Determination Approach of Disk Cams Using relative Accelerations of Followers (종동절의 상대가속도를 이용한 원반 캠의 곡률반경 결정법에 관한 연구)

  • There are two major factors which affect the cam design : the pressure angle and the radius of curvature, Cam shape will have an instantaneous radius of curvature at every point. Even though the design constraint of the pressure angle has been satisfied the follower may still not complete the desired contact motion. If the radius of the follower roller is larger than the concave(negative) radius on the cam it occurs the gap between the cam and the follower roller at the contact point. And also if the curvature of the pitch curve of the cam is too sharp the cam profile may be undercut. This paper proposes a new approach which uses the relative velocity of the follower roller parallel to the tangent line at the contact point on the cam surface for determining the pressure angle and the relative acceeration for determining the radius of curvature.
