In this study, boiler tube thickness measurement and numerical analysis were conducted for standard 500MW coal-fired power plant in order to research the mechanism of tangential-fired boiler corrosion empirically. The most dominant corrosion mechanism of tangential-fired boiler waterwall was corrosion by sulfur contained in the unburned carbon. And the secondary mechanism was $H_2S$ gas corrosion at localized reducing atmosphere. It is required to decrease the air-stage combustion operation in order to mitigate the waterwall tube corrosion. Also stringent coal pulverization quality control and reinforcing work for corrosion susceptible area such as anti-corrosion coatings is required

The safety and serviceability of concrete structures are influenced by corrosion of steel bars in concrete. Several methods have been available to protect the reinforcing bars from corrosion. Among them, the surface coating method is one of the easiest way to apply to concrete structures. However, the realistic guideline for surface coating materials has not been established yet in this country. In this study, in order to establish a reasonable technical guidelines, the durability of the concrete treated by coatings was evaluated.

Coated bars are protecting reinforcing bars from corrosion and enhancing durabilities of reinforced concrete structures are tested to evaluate corrosion protection properties. Tests are performed based on the relevant standards of ACI and ASTM, such as chemical resistance, salt water spray, salt crack test and chloride permeability test with the main variable of the coating thickness. Three type materials are tested by Polyethylene, epoxy and bare bar. Test results show good chemical protection property and chloride permeability. Polyethylene coated bar is good coating material than any other materials.

Chloride penetration into concrete is the main cause of the steel corrosion in concrete structures exposed to chloride-rich environments. Protective surface coatings are increasingly being applied to concrete structures to reduce chloride penetration. In this study, the performance of various surface coatings was evaluated. Most coatings showed good results for the various tests of the performance evaluation. Surface coatings can delay deterioration such as chloride-induced reinforcing bar corrosion effectively.
In recent years, epoxy-coated reinforcing bars have been widely used in order to prevent the corrosion of ordinary reinforcing bar. However, they have a bad balance between performance and cost. Especially, they have a brittleness properties, low bond strength to cement concrete and no good bend-ability in the field. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the tensile properties and adhesion of hybrid-type anti-corrosion polymer cement slurry (PCS). PCSs are prepared with four types polymer dispersions using fly ash and silica fume, and tested for proper coating thickness, tensile properties, adhesion to steel plate and bend-ability. From the test results, the viscosity of PCS is effected by polymer dispersion types, and is a little decreased by using fly ash. The coating thickness of PCS has a proper thickness at polymer-binder ratio of 100%. It is apparent that the coating thickness has various values according to viscosity of PCS, water-binder ratio and polymer-binder rato. PCS has a good various anticorrosion properties and physical properties such as tensile strength, adhesion and bend-ability. It is also recommended that proper coating thickness to reinforcing bar is in the ranges of 150 to $250{\mu}m$ for bond strength, adhesion and bend-ability. It is also expected that the coated reinforcing bar using PCS is widely used instead of epoxy coated reinforcing bar in the industrial field.

An experimental investigation on the relationship between corrosion of reinforcement and bond strength in pull-out test specimen has been conducted to establish the allowable limit of rust of reinforcement in the construction field. The reinforcing bars used in this study were rusted before embedded in pull-out test specimen. The first component of this experiment is to make reinforcing bar rust electrically based on Faraday's theory to be 2, 4, 6, 8 and $10\%$ of reinforcing bar weight. For estimation of the amount of rust by weight, Clarke's solution and shot blasting were adopted and compared. Parameters also include 24 and 45MPa of concrete compressive strengths and diameter of reinforcing bar (16, 19 and 25mm). Pull-out tests were carried out according to KS F 2441 and ASTM C 234. Results show that up to $2\%$ of rust increases the bond strength regardless of concrete strength and diameter of reinforcing bar. As expected, the bond strength increases as compressive strength of concrete increases and the diameter of bar decreases.

Reinforced concrete is, in general, known as high durability construction material under normal environments due to strong alkalinity of cement. It is , however, well known that moderate or minor cracks in reinforced concrete should be most serious causes to deteriorate the durability of RC structures. Furthermore, chloride contents penetrating through unexpected cracks in reinforced concrete bridges get to weaken corrosion resistance of reinforcement steel in concrete and than to accelerate the deterioration of concrete durability. The objective of this experimental research is 1) to evaluate the effect of various corrosion protection system for reinforced concrete specimens with moderate or minor cracks which are exposed to cyclic wet and dry seawater, and then 2) to develop effective corrosion protection system for reinforced concrete bridges under the exposure of various detrimental environments such as seawater, deicing and etc.

Test results to evaluate the mechanical properties of epoxy-coated bars and corrosion protection characteristics of epoxy coating on the bars are described. The results show good adhesion and abrasion resistance satisfying the requirements in relevant standards. The test results also show that for a coating thickness ranging from 150${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ to 300${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$, satisfactory results are obtained regarding bendability. Cautions shall be required when bending epoxy-coated bars at a high bending degree and at a low temperature. The results of accelerated corrosion tests show good corrosion resistance. However, surface defects from the steel itself and insufficient blast-clean process form weak points resulting blistering or disbonding of the coating. The use of epoxy-coated bars is expected to help protect corrosion of reinforcement and extend the service life of reinforced concrete structures.

This paper reports the results of an experimental investigation of the polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP) influence on the steel reinforcement corrosion and compressive strength of concretes in sulphate medium. The effect of admixture of PVP in concrete on the corrosion resistance of steel reinforced concrete was assessed by measuring electrochemical test during 60 days immersion in two different external solutions. AC impedance spectrum indicated that the resistance of PVP mixed electrodes were higher than those without PVP. The compressive strength of concrete specimens containing PVP was measured and an increase of 19%~24% was observed.
