To address the problems caused by the corrosion of steel rebar, active research has recently been carried out on members where fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) is used in place of rebar. As FRP bar is highly brittle and has a low modulus of elasticity, further research is needed on the evaluation of serviceability, in other words on the deflection of flexural concrete members reinforced with FRP rebars. Taking the reinforcement ratio as a variable, this paper analyzes the flexural capacity of concrete beams reinforced with CFRP rebar. The test results of specimens reinforced with CFRP rebar show an increase in stiffness and resisting force along with an increase in the reinforcement ratio. A reinforcement ratio of about 1.3 is needed for the member reinforced with CFRP rebar to show same section property of a steel member. Through a comparison for the value of an effective moment of inertia, the equation suggested by Bischoff & Scanlon predicted values closest to the actual results.
Since the concrete strength around the reinforcement rebar affects the tension stiffening, the tension stiffening effect of ultra high performance concrete on the concrete members reinforced by steel rebar is examined by testing the specimens with circular cross section with the length 850 mm reinforced by a steel rebar at the center of a specimen's cross section in this research. Conducting a tensile test on the specimens, the cracking behavior is evaluated and a curve with an exponential descending branch is obtained to explain the post-cracking zone. In addition, this paper proposes an equation for this branch and parameters of equation is obtained based on the ratio of cover thickness to rebar diameter (c/d) and reinforcement percentage (${\rho}$).

Reinforcement steel fixing is a skilled and manually intensive construction trade. Current practice for the quality assessment of reinforcement steel fixing is normally performed by fabricators and has high potential in having errors due to the tedious nature of the work. In order to overcome the current inspection limitation, this study presents an approach that provides visual assistance and inspection enhancement for inspectors to assess the dimensional layout of reinforcement steel fixing. To this end, this study aims to establish an end-to-end framework for rebar layout quality inspection using laser scanning and Augmented Reality (AR). The proposed framework is composed of three parts: (1) the laser-scanned rebar data processing; (2) the rebar inspection procedure integrating with AR; and (3) the checking and fixing the rebar layout through AR visualization. In order to investigate the feasibility of the proposed framework, a case study assessing the rebar layout of a lab-scaled formwork containing two rebar layers is conducted. The results of the case studies demonstrate that the proposed approach using laser scanning and AR has the potential to produce an intuitive and accurate quality assessment for the rebar layout.
Rebar corrosion in concrete is one of the main causes of reduction of service life of reinforced concrete buildings. This paper presents the influence of rebar corrosion on the structural behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) buildings subjected to strong earthquake ground motion. Different levels of rebar corrosion scenarios were applied on a typical four story RC frame. The deteriorated conditions as a result of these scenarios include loss in cross-sectional area and loss of mechanical properties of the reinforcement bars, loss in bond strength, and loss in concrete strength and its modulus of elasticity. Dynamic analyses of the frame with different corrosion scenarios are performed with selected strong earthquake ground motion records. The influences of degradation in both concrete and reinforcement on structural behavior are investigated by comparing the various parameters of the frame under different corrosion scenarios with respect to each other. The results show that the progressive deterioration of the frame due to rebar corrosion causes serious structural behavior changes such as change in failure mode. The intensity, propagation time, and extensity of rebar corrosion have very important effects on the level of degradation of steel and concrete, as well as on the earthquake behavior of the structure.

In this study, when subjected to in-plane shear such as a shear wall, the behavior characteristics of a concrete member using CFRP rebars were investigated when the longitudinal reinforcement ratio was kept constant at 2.96% and the transverse reinforcement ratio was changed from 0.30 to 2.98%. The evaluation was conducted based on MCFT theory and analyzed by comparison with the case of concrete members using steel rebars. When the reinforcement ratio ranged from 0.30 to 1.19%, concrete members employing CFRP rebars exhibited higher shear strength compared to those using steel rebars. In contrast, at high reinforcement ratios of 1.79 and 2.98%, it was observed that the shear strength of the member with CFRP rebar was lower compared to the member with steel rebar. Maximum shear strain was observed to be higher for members reinforced with steel rebars at lower reinforcing bar ratios, while for ratios of 0.97% and above, CFRP rebars resulted in higher maximum shear strain. As the reinforcement ratio increases, the use of CFRP rebar instead of steel rebar results in a greater increase in maximum shear strain. By analyzing the difference in strain in the reinforcing bar as well as the difference in principal strain in the element caused by differences in the mechanical properties of the steel rebar and CFRP rebar, the shear strength and shear strain when using steel rebar and CFRP rebar with different reinforcement ratios can be compared and analyzed.

If the flexural member of concrete is designed using the FRP rebar, suddenly brittleness destruction resulted from the fracture of FRP rebar is generated in the extreme situation because of brittleness characteristics of FRP rebar and concrete when designed to be less than balanced reinforcement ratio, so it is recommended to design the flexural member of concrete to be more than balanced reinforcement ratio. In ACI 440.1R-06 proposes the different bending strength decrease coefficient according to destructive form of concrete flexural member using the FRP rebar. However, ACI 440.1R-06 applies the same strength decrease coeffient to all FRP rebars made of diverse materials. If the same strength decrease coefficient is applied to all FRP rebars, effect of increasing the reinforcement ratio and selection of FRP rebar will be considerably limited. In this regard, we are to propose the formula to calculate the bending strength decrease coefficient in consideration of change in characteristics of FRP rebar and L/D through the reliability analysis in this paper.
Reinforcement corrosion can cause serious safety deterioration to aging concrete structures exposed in aggressive environments. This paper presents an approach for reliability analyses of deteriorating reinforced concrete structures affected by reinforcement corrosion on the basis of the representative symptoms identified during the deterioration process. The concrete cracking growth and rebar bond strength evolution due to reinforcement corrosion are chosen as key symptoms for the performance deterioration of concrete structures. The crack width at concrete cover surface largely depends on the corrosion penetration of rebar due to the expansive rust layer at the bond interface generated by reinforcement corrosion. The bond strength of rebar in the concrete correlates well with concrete crack width and decays steadily with crack width growth. The estimates of cracking development and bond strength deterioration are examined by experimental data available from various sources, and then matched with symptom-based lifetime Weibull model. The symptom reliability and remaining useful life are predicted from the predictive lifetime Weibull model for deteriorating concrete structures. Finally, a numerical example is provided to demonstrate the applicability of the proposed approach for forecasting the performance of concrete structures subject to reinforcement corrosion. The results show that the corrosion rate has significant impact on the reliability associated with serviceability and load bearing capacity of reinforced concrete structures during their service life.

This study suggests a rebar detection technique for simultaneous detection of size and cover of embedded reinforcement in concrete. The structure of the probe made in this study is somewhat different from commercial ones. This probe has three sensing coils. Rebar size and cover depth can be evaluated by detecting and analyzing the signal from them. Amplitude and phase variation of each coil in the probe was investigated using an impedance analyzer and the loci of transfer functions of the coils were analyzed. The locus of transfer function from the sensing coil positioned inside excitation coil was simple as well known, but the others from the coils outside excitation coil were not so. Actual experiment on rebar detection was performed with our probe and an eddy current test system for various rebar sizes and depths. The signal shape according to variation of cover depths showed the same tendency with the transfer function loci acquired by impedance analyzer. The different variation pattern of signal enabled to evaluate rebar size and cover depth simultaneously.

This paper presents the continuous hoop reinforcement method as a means to overcome the difficulty of rebar construction due to the seismic detail of lateral reinforcement. Because the continuous hoop has no seismic hook, and there is less interference during the rebar work, rebar quantities and construction time can be reduced. Since the details of column and beam continuous hoops are different from those of conventional lateral reinforcements, the construction method should be developed through mock-up tests. The length of the beam mock-up is 8m and the section size is $500mm{\times}700mm$, the height of the column mock-up is 2.8m and 4m, and the section size is $800{\times}800mm$. The length and the size are determined based on the elements that are generally used in reinforced concrete basement parking lots and office buildings. The results of the mock-up test showed that the quantities of rebar could be reduced by 20% and the time could be reduced by up to 40% compared with conventional lateral reinforcements.
The importance for the department combined is increased concerning structures and pile foundation with the introduction of structures in sesmic design of structures. Therefore, the railway bridge and the road bridge standards approach for the earthquake about above the department combined by using strong coupling. Also, mechanical interpretation is performed as foundation combined with the head of pile foundation assuming the pillars. Accordingly, this study suggests the head of PHC repair can enhance the load carrying capacity and constructability of the department combined after bending, pulling, shear and compressive tests by appling the reinforcement of bending the rebar, the reinforcement of pulling the rebar.
