Geopolymer binders fascinate the attention of researchers as a replacement to cement binder in conventional concrete. One-ton production of cement releases one ton of carbon-dioxide in the atmosphere. In the replacement of cement by geopolymer material, there are two advantages: one is the reduction of CO2 in the atmosphere, second is the utilization of Fly ash and Ground granulated blast furnace slag (GGBFS) are by-products from coal and steel industries. This paper focuses on the mechanical properties of steel fiber reinforced geopolymer concrete. The framework considered in this research work is geopolymer source (Fly ash, GGBFS and crimped steel fibre) and alkaline activator which consists of NaOH and Na2SiO3 of molarity 8M. Here the Na2SiO3 / NaOH ratio was taken as 2.5. The variables considered in this experimental work include Binder content (360,420 and 450 kg/m3), the proportion of Fly ash and GGBS (70-30, 60-40 and 50-50) for three different grades of Geopolymer concrete (GPC) GPC 20, GPC 40 and GPC 60. The percentage of crimped steel fibres was varied as 0.1%, 0.2%, 0.3%, 0.4% and 0.5%. Generally, the inclusion of steel fibres increases the flexural and split tensile strength of Geopolymer concrete. The optimum dosage of steel fibres was found to be 0.4% (by volume fraction).
A finite element implementation of the modified compression field theory (MCFT) using a tangential formulation is presented in this work. Previous work reported on implementations of MCFT has concentrated mainly on secant formulations. This work describes details of the implementation of a modular algorithmic structure of a reinforced concrete constitutive model in nonlinear finite element schemes that use a Jacobian matrix in the solution of the nonlinear system of algebraic equations. The implementation was verified and validated using experimental and analytical data reported in the literature. The developed algorithm, which converges accurately and quickly, can be easily implemented in any finite element code.

The increase of hish-rise residential-commercial buildings is required to cut down a term of works and the cost of construction. Reinforced concrete structures and steel framed reinforcement concrete that are commonly used have the difficulty in reducing them. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to propose a new precast concrete complex system and to analyze its economical feasibility. The economic analysis is performed through comparing the cost of a high-rise reinforced building that was already constructed with that of the new proposed precast concrete system, which is limited to structural frame work of typical floors. This study shows that the proposed precast concrete complex system is economical. Further research should be directed at including the influence of a term of works.

The proposed techniques to strengthen concrete members such as steel plates, polymers or concrete have important deficiencies in adherence and durability. The use of UHPFC plates can overtake effectively these problems. In this paper, the possibility of using UHPFC to strengthen RC beams under torsion is investigated. Four specimens of concrete beams reinforced with longitudinal bars only were tested under pure torsion. One of the beams was considered as the baseline specimen, while the others were strengthened by ultra-high-performance fiber concrete (UHPFC) on two, three, and four sides. Finite element analysis was conducted in tandem with experimental work. Results showed that UHPFC enhances the strength, ductility, and toughness of concrete beams under torsional load, and that finite element analysis is in good agreement with the experimental data.
Chloride ingress implies a complex interaction between physical and chemical process, in which heat, moisture and chloride ions transport through concrete cover. Meanwhile, reinforced concrete structure itself undergoes evolution due to variation in temperature, relative humidity and creep effects, which can potentially change the deformation and trigger some micro-cracks in concrete. In addition, all of these process show time-dependent performance with complex interaction between structures and environments. In the present work, a time-dependent behavior of chloride transport in reinforced concrete beam subjected to flexural load is proposed based on the well-known section fiber model. The strain state varies because of stress redistribution caused by the interaction between environment and structure, mainly dominated by thermal stresses and shrinkage stress and creep. Finally, in order to clear the influence of strain state on the chloride diffusivity, experiment test were carried out and a power function used to describe this influence is proposed.
Basalt fiber is an eco-friendly fiber and comparatively newer to the world of fiber-reinforced polymer (FRP) composites. A limited number of studies have been reported in the literature on the strengthening of reinforced concrete (RC) beams with basalt fiber reinforced polymer (BFRP). The present experimental work explores the feasibility of using the BFRP strips for shear strengthening of the RC beams. The strengthening schemes include full wrap and U-wrap. A simple mechanical anchorage scheme has been introduced to prevent the debonding of U-wrap as well as to utilize the full capacity of the BFRP composite. The effect of varying shear span-to-effective depth (a/d) ratio on the behavior of shear deficient RC beams strengthened with BFRP strips under different schemes is examined. The RC beams were tested under a four-point loading system. The study finds that the beams strengthened with and without BFRP strips fails in shear for a/d ratio 2.5 and the enhancement of the shear capacity of strengthened beams ranges from 5% to 20%. However, the strengthened beams fail in flexure, and the control beam fails in shear for a higher a/d ratio, i.e., 3.5. The experimental results of the present study have been compared with the analytical study and found that the latter gives conservative results.
The mechanical behavior of concrete-filled glass fiber reinforced polymer columns is affected by various factors including concrete strength, stiffness of tube, end confinement effect, and slenderness ratio of members. In this research the behavior of slender columns was examined both experimentally and analytically. Experimental works include 1) compression test with 30cm long glass fiber composite columns under different end confinement conditions, 2) uni-axial compression test for 7 slender columns, which have various slenderness ratios. Short-length stocky columns gave high strength and ductility revealing high confinement action of FRP tubes. The strength increment and strain change were examined under different end confinement conditions. With slender columns, failure strengths, confinement effects, and stress-strains relations were examined. Through analytical work, effective length was computed and it was compared with the amount of reduction in column strength, which is required to predict design strength with slender specimens. This study shows the feasibility of slender concrete-filled glass fiber reinforced polymer composite columns.

Apartment building, which has been accompanied by economic growth in Korea, is a home of life and has the value overlapping as housing and assets. The improvement of consumer's eye level and development of related technology and related service development have positive function that enriches society and creates economic wealth. On the other hand, the clash and conflict between stakeholders increase social unrest and waste our competitiveness by economic loss. The term of warranty liability of apartment building is an important issue of defect lawsuits and is only a few quantitative standards. However, in this study, we examined the revision history of the law and ordinances for the reinforced concrete construction. As a result, establishing and revising the relevant standard, there is no definite basis system to support it. To improve this, the efforts to provide the standard for term of warranty liability and quantitative and objective basis to support it should be accompanied continuously.

Reinforced concrete frame structures with masonry infill walls constitute the significant portion of the building stock in Turkey. Therefore it is very important to understand the behavior of masonry infill frame structures under earthquake loads. This study presents an experimental work performed on reinforced concrete (RC) frames with different types of masonry infills, namely standard and locked bricks. Earthquake effects are induced on the RC frames by quasi-static tests. Results obtained from different frames are compared with each other through various stiffness, strength, and energy related parameters. It is shown that locked bricks may prove useful in decreasing the problems related to horizontal and vertical irregularities defined in building codes. Moreover tests show that locked brick infills maintain their integrity up to very high drift levels, showing that they may have a potential in reducing injuries and fatalities related to falling hazards during severe ground shakings.

The purpose of the present study is to set up an efficient optimum design method for the large-scale reinforced concrete cylindrical shell structures like intake tower of reservoir and to establish a solid foundation for the automatic optimum structural design combined with finite element analysis. The major design variables are the dimensions and steel areas of each member of the structures. The construction cost which is composed of the concrete, steel, and form work costs, respectively, is taken as the objective function. The constraint equations for the design of intake-tower are derived on the basis of the working stress design method. The corresponding design guides including the standard specification for concrete structures have been also employed in deraving the constraint conditions. The present nonlinear optimization problem is solved by SUMT method. The reinforced concrete intake-tower is decomposed into three major substructures. The optimization is then conducted for both the whole structure and the substructures. The following conclusions can be drawn from the present study. 1. The basis of automatic optimum design of reinforced concrete cylindrical shell structures which is combined with finite element analysis was established. 2. The efficient optimization algorithms which can execute the automatic optimum desigh of reinforced concrete intake-tower based on the working stress design method were developed. 3. Since the objective function and design variables were converged to their optimum values within the first or second iteration, the optImization algorithms developed in this study seem to be efficient and stable. 4. The difference in construction cost between the optimum designs with the substructures and with the entire structure was found to be small and thus the optimum design with the substructures, rnay conveniently be used in practical design. 5. The major active constraints of each structural member were found to be the tensile stress insteel for salb, the minimum lonitudinal steel ratio constraints for tower body and the shearing stress in concrete, tensile stress in steel and maximum eccentricityconstraints for footing, respectively. 6. The computer program develope in the present study can be effectively used even by an unexperienced designer for the optimum design of reinforced concrete intake-tower.
