  • The optimum extraction conditions of green tea used for a bath were investigated for later application to textile. The extraction was more effective in water and methanol than in ethanol. The optimum extraction temperature was determined as 80$^{\circ}C$ in water and 60$^{\circ}C$ in methanol. The extracts were more stable in acid and neutral conditions than in alkaline region. The UV satbility was better than generally expected. From the analysis of contents of active ingredients, the about 20% of effective catechin was appeared to be contained in the extract solid. The contents of polyphenol is 0.016g in the 0.1g extracts.

  • Most of previous visual attention system finds attention regions based on saliency map which is combined by multiple extracted features. The differences of these systems are in the methods of feature extraction and combination. This paper presents a new system which has an improvement in feature extraction method of color and motion, and in weight decision method of spatial and temporal features. Our system dynamically extracts one color which has the strongest response among two opponent colors, and detects the moving objects not moving pixels. As a combination method of spatial and temporal feature, the proposed system sets the weight dynamically by each features' relative activities. Comparative results show that our suggested feature extraction and integration method improved the detection rate of attention region.

  • This paper presents a new method to extract traffic information such as number of passing vehicles and average speed by a pair of stereo road images. The whole process consists of the extraction of vehicles and the tracking of the extracted vehicles. For the extraction of vehicles, the outline of each vehicle is obtained by using binary region growing technique applied to disparity map based on multi-resolution stereo matching. The Kalman filter tracking algorithm is applied to the extracted vehicle outlines to determine the flow of vehicles. Experimental results show that the proposed method significantly improved recognition rate of vehicles over the conventional methods-frame difference and background elimination methods.

  • In this paper, a new license plate recognition method using the morphological size distribution functions and color images is proposed. The proposed method consists of two steps. The first step is license plate extraction process using the plate color and step edge information in the license plate. The second step is the extraction of character feature vectors using the morphological size distribution functions and character recognition process using the MLP(multilayer perceptron). By the use of morphological size distributions functions, the error that may occur during the character region extraction process is lessened and the recognition performances are improved by the decrease of feature vector dimension.

  • This study proposes a sequence of procedures to extract building boundaries and planar patches through segmentation of rasterized lidar data. Although previous approaches to building extraction have been shown satisfactory, there still exist needs to increase the degree of automation. The methodologies proposed in this study are as follows: Firstly, lidar data are rasterized into grid form in order to exploit its rapid access to neighboring elevations and image operations. Secondly, propagation of errors in raw data is taken into account for in assessing the quality of gradients-driven properties and further in choosing suitable parameters. Thirdly, extraction of planar patches is conducted through a sequence of processes: histogram analysis, least squares fitting, and region merging. Experimental results show that the geometric components of building models could be extracted by the proposed approach in a streamlined way.

  • Extraction of building is one of essential issues for the 3D city models generation. In recent years, high-resolution satellite imagery has become widely available, and this shows an opportunity for the urban mapping. In this paper, we have developed a semi-automatic algorithm to extract 3D buildings in urban settlements areas from high-spatial resolution panchromatic imagery. The proposed algorithm determines building height interactively by projecting shadow regions for a given building height onto image space and by adjusting the building height until the shadow region and actual shadow in the image match. Proposed algorithm is tested with IKONOS images over Deajeon city and the algorithm showed promising results.┌阀؀䭏佈䉌ᔀ鳪떭臬隑駭验耀

  • An emotion detection algorithm using frontal facial image is presented in this paper. The algorithm is composed of three main stages: image processing stage and facial feature extraction stage, and emotion detection stage. In image processing stage, the face region and facial component is extracted by using fuzzy color filter, virtual face model, and histogram analysis method. The features for emotion detection are extracted from facial component in facial feature extraction stage. In emotion detection stage, the fuzzy classifier is adopted to recognize emotion from extracted features. It is shown by experiment results that the proposed algorithm can detect emotion well.

  • This paper presents an intelligent iris recognition system which consists of quality check, iris localization, feature extraction, and verification. For the quality check, the local statistics on the pupil boundary is used. Gaussian mixture model is used to segment and localized the iris region. The feature extraction method is based on an optimal waveform simplification. For the verification, we use an intelligent variable threshold.

  • In this paper, we propose a new fingerprint feature extraction method using the convex structure. A fingerprint minutiae flows along the uniform direction and is regarded as a sinusoidal signal across the normal direction. Local maxima of the signal represent coarse thinned one-pixel-wide ridges in which the convex region of the signal correspond to ridges. The proposed fingerprint feature extraction method detects the convex structure and local maxima. Finally fingerprint features are extracted from one-pixel-wide ridges. Because it has no parameter, it is efficient for various fingerprint identification systems.

  • One of the most difficult tasks in the process of automatic vehicle license plate recognition is the extraction of each character from within license plate region. In many cases, characters, especially serial numbers of plates are connected together due to noise and plate accessories. The recognition process may not be successful without extracting these characters effectively. This paper presents an algorithm to extract these connected characters very effectively. The algorithm utilizes mathematical morphology, connected component analysis, and gradient filters for character extraction. The paper also presents thorough experimental results as well as details of the algorithm.
