  • The surface wave launcher from the dielectric coated coaxial cable to dielectric slab is investigated. FDTD method using local subcell and contour-path model is applied to determine the fine geometrical features. The reflection coefficient in coaxial cable region is found using extract algorithm. In this paper, two structures are presented as coaxial slot surface wave launcher. One structure has a vertical launching angle, and the other has an arbitrary launching angle. The numerical results show that a certain launching angle is minimized the reflection coefficient.

  • An ultrasonic testing uses the directivity of the ultrasonic wave which propagates in one direction. The directivity is expressed as the relationship between the propagate direction and its sound pressure. The directivity of ultrasonic wave is related to determination of testing sensitivity, scanning pitch and defect location. This paper investigated the directivity of ultrasonic wave, which scattered from slit defect located in heat-affected zone (HAZ) in butt joint using visualization method. The directivity of shear waves scattered from slit defect were different according to probe direction (far defect, near defect) and probe position (forward movement, maximum echo position, backward movement). The difference of directivity of reflection wave was existed between 2 MHz and 4 MHz angle probes. In the case of 2 MHz angle probe, the directivity of reflection wave was appeared sharp form because of the relation wave length and defect size.

  • Recently, the studies on submerged breakwater are increased due to needs considering the quality of water and the scenic view. In this paper, waves coming to permeable submerged breakwater coming with oblique angle are computed numerically by using wave pressure function. The wave pressure function throughout the analytical region including the fluid and submerged breakwaters is used. An unknown quantity expressed by the wave pressure function is simulated by boundary element method. The maximum reflection coefficient shows the tendency of decrease with the increase of oblique angle and The reflection coefficient shows the tendency of increase with the increase of the values of the linear dissipation coefficient and the added mass coefficient. It is means that the reflection coefficients are strongly dependent on the oblique angle and resistance coefficients.

  • To move in unknown or uncertain environment, a mobile robot must collect informations from various sensors and use it to construct a representation of the external world. Ultrasonic sensor can provide range data for this purpose in a simple cost-effective way. However conventional ultrasonic sensor system for a mobile robot are not sufficient for environment recognition because of their large beam opening angle, specular reflection. This paper describe on environmental perception algorithm which can solve these problems in case using ultrasonic sensor. The algorithm consist of two parts. One is to solve beam opening angle problem by fusion from multiple ultrasonic sensors. The other is to cope with specular reflection problem in wall line extract, which is based on Hough Transform. Experiments to verify the validity of the proposed algorithm are carried out, and the results are provided at last part in this paper.

  • Silicon bulk micromachined micromirrors are designed and fabricated for out-of-plane right angle reflection. The micromirror is comprised of a minor plate, springs, magnetic bars and electrodes. Single crystalline silicon is used for a flatness improvement of a mirror plate. Out-of-plane right angle reflection requires a 45 degree operation of the micromirror. The micromirrors are operated by applying a magnetic field, which is generated by a coil located below a substrate. For an individual mirror operation, each mirror is clamped using an electrostatic force against the electromagnetic force. Angular deflections are measured and compared with theoretical data. The micro mirror operates up to 45 degree when magnetic field is 4 kA/m which is generated by a 115 mA coil current Simple addressing is tested, and it is shown that a clamping voltage is less than 5V.

  • Characteristics of reflective LCDs, which have gained a lot of notice in recent years, rely largely on optical design of circular polarizers and the quarter-wave plates, as a component. Important design includes wavelength dispersion, viewing angle, uniformity of display and matching of refractive index. Our work has contributed to improving performance of reflective LCDs by enhancing the characteristics of polymer film using stretching and optical lamination technologies. To design that offers higher contrast and wider viewing angle, we have discovered that it is necessary to control viewing angle variation of the polarizing axis in order to compensate for the viewing angle of the polarizing film as well as the optical anisotropic properties of liquid crystal. Applying this technology to circular polarizers used for reflective LCDs enables design of wide viewing angle circular polarizers. In order to realize higher contrast for reflective LCDs, it is also necessary to design other optical materials including polarizing films. For design of hybrid optical film, it is particularly necessary to reduce surface reflection and interface reflection. This paper also reports our findings concerning this topic.

  • Using a 3-D numerical scheme (LES-WASS-3D) that considered wave-structure-sandy seabed interactions in a 3-D wave field, we analyzed the wave reflection and hydraulic characteristics inside a slit caisson with two chambers in a 3-D oblique wave field. To verify the 3-D numerical analysis method suggested in this study, we compared the numerical results with existing experimental results and found good agreement. The numerical analysis revealed that a standing wave field is generated on the front side of the slit caisson due to the effect of wave reflection. For incident waves propagating perpendicular to the slit caisson, the nodes and anti-nodes of the standing wave are apparent and symmetrical. However, in an oblique wave field, as the incident wave angle decreases, the nodes and anti-nodes of the standing wave become ambiguous and unsymmetrical. It was also found that the wave reflection coefficient decreases as the incident wave angle decreases. It can be pointed out that as the incident wave angle decreases, the turbulent intensity in the chamber increases. Thereby, the increased wave energy dissipation by the increased turbulent intensity reduces the rate of wave reflection. In addition, a strong turbulent intensity generally occurs in the first chamber.

  • The effective reflection coefficients of an obliquely incident wave on a multi-layered substrate coated with a uniaxially anisotropic alignment layer are derived. The effective reflection coefficients as well as explicit ellipsometric expressions are provided as a function of film constants of multiple layers together with magnitude of anisotropy, direction of optic axis, and thickness of the alignment layer. It is expected that by adapting these expressions to the conventional modelling technique, the ordinary refractive index, the extra-ordinary refractive index, the azimuth angle and the tilt angle of the optic axis, and the thickness of the aligned surface can be determined simultaneously together with the thickness and volume fraction of each layer beneath the alignment layer.

  • Because the Ultra-Precision Technology increase its competitiveness in the field of the design, precision of processing technology, confidence and fixation degree are major considerations. According to Pattern shapes using these processing technologies, Light Reflection has influence on the sense of sight about human being. Based on background of these studies, we draw a plan about a round workpiece using a 3D design program and analyze the effect on Light Reflection changing a pattern angle and a source of light through SPEOS program in this research. We make Pattern form as V-Shape, and compare the area distributed by Light Reflection by classifying angle into 4 and analyze changes according to a source of light. In order to measure and evaluate the data from simulation analysis we has manufactured Diamond Tool and has processed Pattern precision using a Ultra-Precision Machine. Based on the result of this study, we forecast that the field of design will achieve rapid growth due to Ultra-Precision Technology in the world market.
