Usually piston or rotary engines are installed at UAV's under 100 kg payload class. Those engine are less expensive and easy to get, but they require higher operating and maintenance costs due to shorter life and unique fuel usage. They are also too noisy to operate in urban area and have too strong vibration to carry sophisticated payloads. On the contrary, a gas turbine engine has drawbacks like higher specific fuel consumption and weight to power ratio, even it has many operating and maintenance benefits. This study aims to design a small turboshaft engine with a recuperator to overcome those demerits. A tilt rotor UAV(TR-60) developed by KARI was chosen as an imaginary target aircraft, and engine power and size were derived from it. This paper describes engine requirements, design process, and initial reference point cycle design.
An automobile hot-film air flow sensor is deposited with platinum by sputtering method, patterned by photoresisted lift-off method, annealed in $1,000^{\circ}C$ and passivated with PI-2723. The TCR of the fabricated hot-film is about $3500\;ppm/^{\circ}C$. In the experiment, the output voltage of the sensor is in proportional to the fourth power root in the air mass flow range of 300 kg/h. The error in the full flow range is about ${\pm}0.7%$. In the range of air temperature of $-20^{\circ}C{\sim}120^{\circ}C$, the error is about ${\pm}1%$ that is ${\pm}2%$ lower than that of the reference sensor. Therefore, the fabricated hot-film air flow sensor satisfies the specification for automobile. Lower temperature error of the sensor provides to control the precise air/fuel ratio of automobile engine and results in improvement of a fuel mileage and the less amount of toxic gases emitted by automobile.
Carbon footprint of apple was a sum of $CO_2$ emission in the step of manufacturing waste of agri-materials, and greenhouse gas emission during apple cultivation. Input amount of agri-materials was calculated on 2007 Income reference of Apple by Rural Development Administration. Emission factor of each agri- materials was based on domestic data and Ecoinvent data. $N_2O$ emission factor was based on 1996 IPCC guideline. Carbon dioxide was emitted 0.64 kg $CO_2$ to produce 1 kg apple fruit, and carbon dioxide was emitted 43.6% in the step of the manufacturing byproduct fertilizer, 1.3% in the step of the manufacturing single fertilizer, 4.7% in the step of the manufacturing composite fertilizer, 6.3% in the step of the manufacturing agri-chemicals, 14.6% in the step of the manufacturing fuel, 11.5% in the step of the fuel combustion, 17.7% of $N_2O$ emission by nitrogen application and 0.18% of disposal of agri-materials. It is needed for farmers to use fertilization recommendation based on soil testing (soil. rda.go.kr) because scientific fertilization is a major tools to reduce carbon dioxide of apple production. The fertilization recommendation could be also basic data in Measurable-ReporTablele-Verifiable (MRV) system for carbon footprint.

The next-generation Molten Salt Reactor is known for its high safety because it uses nuclear fuel dissolved in high-temperature molten salt, unlike traditional solid atomic fuel methods. However, the high-temperature molten salt causes severe corrosion in internal structural materials, threatening the reactor's safety. Therefore, it is crucial to investigate the high-temperature corrosion resistance and wear performance of materials used in reactors to ensure safety. In this study, the high-temperature corrosion resistances and wear performances of corrosion samples in a NaCl-MgCl2-KCl (20-40-40 [wt%]) molten salt are investigated to evaluate the applicability of economically viable stainless steels, 316SS and 304SS. Hastelloy C276 and a new alloy containing a small amount of Nb are used as reference samples for comparative analysis. The mass loss, mass loss rate per unit volume, and surface roughness of each sample are measured to understand the corrosion mechanisms. Scanning electron microscopy and energy-dispersive spectroscopy analyses are employed to analyze the corrosion mechanisms. Wear tests on the corroded samples are also conducted to assess the extent of corrosion. Based on the experimental results, we predict the lifespans of the materials and evaluate their suitability as candidate materials for molten salt reactors. The data obtained from the experiments provide a valuable database for structural materials that can enhance the stability of molten salt reactors and recommend high-temperature corrosion-resistant materials suitable for next-generation reactors.

This paper improves existing 'fly-the-wire' based autonomous station-keeping system, suitable for geostationary satellite and introduces results of computer simulations conducted to verify the algorithm. The on-board stationkeeping system receives pseudo-range signals from two ground equipments located with long baseline, determines the orbit error in realtime and generates orbit control commands. To reduce fuel consumption, this paper proposes an on-board orbit control logic using modified fly-the-wire method. The modified fly-the-wire method de-couples error components into two dynamic modes, harmonic and linear motion. The harmonic error components are removed by applying output commands produced by feedback controller, and the linear motions are controlled by the correction ${\Delta}V\;s$ added to reference maneuvers. The reference maneuvers are generated through the ground based computer simulation and embedded or uploaded into the on-board computer with time tags. Finally, the performance of the proposed algorithm is verified through a series of computer simulations.

A mobile laser-induced breakdown detection (LIBD) system was developed for the field measurement of the size and concentration of aquatic colloidal nanoparticles sampled from Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute Underground Research Tunnel (KURT). The established LIBD apparatus is based on the optical detection of a laser-induced plasma by means of a two-dimensional optical imaging method for determining the size of nanoparticle. Calibration curve for determining the size of nanoparticle was obtained from the polystyrene reference particles of a well-defined size. The first direct application was made at KURT for investigating the particle sizes in groundwater. By comparing the size of particles in groundwater with the sizes of reference particles, the mean particle size of approximately $108{\pm}26$ nm with the concentration lower than 50 ppb was determined.

The engineering performance of a high level waste repository is significantly dependent upon the T-H-M behavior in the engineered barrier system. An engineering-scale test facility (KENTEX) was set up to validate the T-H-M behaviors in the buffer of a reference disposal system developed in the 2002. The validation tests started on May 31, 2005 and is now in progress. The KENTEX facility and validation test programme are introduced, and pre-operation calculations are also presented to give information on the sensitive location of sensors and operational conditions. This test will provide information (e.g., large-scale apparatus, sensors, monitoring system etc.) needed for 'in-situ' tests, make the validation of a T-H-M model for the T-H-M performance assessment of the reference disposal system, and demonstrate the engineering feasibility of fabricating and emplacing the buffer of a repository.

In this study, experiments were conducted to evaluate the performance of a heat pump system. A heat pump system with an air as heat source is adapted as reference. The developed system uses a plate heat exchanger an evaporator to absorb heat from a stack of fuel cell driven electric vehicles. Hence, the system functions as a water source heat pump system. The results indicated that the; power consumption increased with the rotational speed of the compressor. A system performance($COP_h$) of 2.03 at an electronic expansion valve(EEV) openings of 25% and a compressor speed of 1200 rpm was observed in the reference system. However, at the same compressor speed, the $COP_h$ of the water source heat pump system corresponded to 9.42 at an EEV openings of 75%. It was found that the water source heat pump system exhibited the highest performance at a water temperature of $50^{\circ}C$.

In the present study, using a variation of rib height, the transient response and the performance are investigated. The cell voltage is acquired according to the current density change($0.8A/cm^2$ to $1.0A/cm^2$) under same stoichiometry and relative humidity. The different level of undershoots appeared at the different clamping pressure(1.5MPa and 2.0MPa) and different rib height. At 1.5MPa clamping pressure, rib manufactured cut at $100{\mu}m$ height goes to steady state faster than reference plate and has lower maximum undershoot voltage. But performance is lower than reference plate due to increasing contact resistance.

Construction of tunnels in a deep crystalline host rock for a potential High-Level Radioactive Waste(HLW) repository inevitably generates an excavation disturbed zone (EDZ). There have been a series of debates on whether a permeability in an EDZ increases or not and what would be the maximum depth of an EDZ. Recent studies show mixed opinions on permeability. However, there has been an international consensus on the thickness of an EDZ; 30 cm for TBM and 1 meter for controlled blast. One of the impacts of an EDZ is on determining the distance between adjacent deposition holes. The void gap by the excavation hinders relaxation of temperature profiles so that the current Korean reference designing distance between holes should be stretched out more to keep the maximum temperature in a buffer region below 100 degrees Celsius. The other impact of an EDZ is on the long-term post closure radiological safety. To estimate the impact, the reference scenario, the well scenario, is chosen. Released nuclides diffuse through a bentonite buffer region experiencing strong sorption and reach a fracture surrounded by a porous medium. Inside a fractured porous region, radionuclides migrate by advection and dispersion with matrix diffusion into a porous medium. Finally, they reach a well assumed to be a source of potable water for local residents. The annual individual dose is assessed on this well scenario to find out the significance of an EDZ. A profound sensitivity study was performed, but all results show that the impact is negligible. Even though the role of an EDZ turns out to be limited on overall safety assessment, still it is worthwhile to study the chemical role of an EDZ, such as a potential source for natural colloids, potential sealing of an open fracture by fine clay particles generated by the process of an EDZ, and alteration of a sorption mechanism by an EDZ in the future.
