The reference model of an MRC (model reference control) provides the desired trajectory a plant should follow and thus the design of a reference model has a significant effect on control performance. In most control systems control input to a plant has some bounds and it is preferable to make use of as large control inputs as possible within the range of no saturation. In this paper a new approach of selecting the reference model is proposed for bounded control inputs. Design variables of the reference model are determined in such a way that maximizes the performance index within the range of no saturation. Moreover this variable reference model is regularly updated during control. This scheme is verified by application to the servo motor position control system in various simulations. The responses of the MRC with a variable reference model show better tracking performance than that with a fixed reference mode. Moreover by adjusting the update interval of the reference model the control performance can be further improved.
This paper presents a design scheme of model reference adaptive control incorporating a Neural Network for a pneumatic servo system. The parameters of discrete-time model of plant are estimated by using the recursive least square method. Neural Network is utilized in order to compensate the nonlinear nature of plant such as compressibility of air and frictions present in cylinder. The experiment of a trajectory tracking control using the proposed control scheme has been performed and its effectiveness has been proved by comparing with the results of a model reference adaptive control.
A design of the global optimal sliding mode control is presented to control the second order uncertain time varying system with torque limit. With specified ranges of parametric uncertainties and torque limit, the minimum arrival time to reference inputs can be calculated. The proposed control scheme is applied to the motor system carrying loads. The merit of the proposed control scheme is that the arriving time at the reference input, which is the revolution angle, and the maximum allowable acceleration are expressed in a closed form solution. The superior performance of the proposed control scheme is validated by the computer simulation and experiments comparing with other sliding mode controllers.

In this Paper. a non-linear approach to a design of model reference adaptive control is presented. The approach is demonstrated by a case study of a simple single-pole and no zero, linear, discrete-time plant. The essence of the idea is to generate a full non-linear model of the plant dynamics and the parameter adaptation dynamics as a gradient descent algorithm with respect to a Riemannian metric. It is shown how a Riemannian metric can be chosen so that the modelled plant dynamics do in fact match the true plant dynamics. The performance of the proposed scheme is compared to a traditional model reference adaptive control scheme using the classical sensitivity derivatives (Euclidean gradients) for the descent algorithm.
It is difficult to realize precise control by a fuzzy control scheme alone because control signals are derived from fuzzy inferences. On the other hand, pole-placement control can offer a precise control to a known system. In this paper, a VSC(variable structure control)scheme is proposed, which is an attempt to take merits of pole-placement control and fuzzy control. On the vicinity of the reference point the pole-placement control scheme takes over the role of the fuzzy controller to improve the set point response.
In general, the realization of high performance brushless permanent magnet motors which are widely used in servo drive is focused on the linear control for ripple-free torque. This is also the main problem that should be solved in all AC motors including induction motor to achieve high performance control, and recent papers deal with this problem. In this paper, the novel optimal excitation scheme of brushless permanent magnet motor producing loss-minimized ripple-free torque based on the d-q-0 reference frame is presented including 3 phase unbalanced condition. The optimized phase current waveforms that are obtained by the proposed method can be a reference values and the motor winding currents are forced to track it by delta modulation technique. As a results, it can be shown that the proposed work can minimize the torque ripple by the optimal excitation current for brushless permanent magnet motor with any arbitrary phase back EMF waveform. Simulation and experimental results prove the validity and practical applications of the proposed control scheme.
A simple and effective dead time compensation scheme for a PWM inverter-fed permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) drive using the model reference adaptive control (MRAC) and coordinate transformation is presented. The basic concept is to first transform a time-varying disturbance caused by the dead time and inverter nonlinearity into unknown constant or slowly-varying one by the coordinate transformation, and then use the MRAC design technique to estimate this parameter in the stationary reference frame. Since the MRAC scheme is a suitable way of estimating such a parameter, the control performance can be significantly improved as compared with the conventional observer-based method tracking time-varying parameters. In the proposed scheme, the disturbance voltage caused by the dead time is effectively estimated and compensated by on-line basis without any additional circuits nor existing disadvantages as in the conventional methods. The asymptotic stability is proved and the effectiveness of the proposed scheme is verified.
This study presents an overhang-type rail traction system using dual brushless AC (BLAC) motors with hall sensors. For an accurate position and moving length control of the designed rail traction system, instantaneous position controller using speed reference model and modified disturbance observer for BLAC motor with hall sensor are proposed. The presented speed reference model is designed to satisfy the required performance of 200 mm/s with proper acceleration and deceleration slopes to reduce mechanical vibration. Through the instantaneous speed reference model, instantaneous position and speed errors can be compensated together. Furthermore, the modified disturbance observer for BLAC motors with low-resolution hall sensors can improve the torque and speed control performance. The proposed disturbance observer is based on an actual motor speed. However, the feedback speed information of the hall sensor is not enough for use in the low-speed region. The practical adopted disturbance observer uses an activation speed band to the actual torque controller of the designed rail traction system. The proposed position control scheme is verified by the MATLAB-Simulink model and a practical manufactured traction system. In the computer simulation and experiments, the proposed position control scheme shows advanced control performance.

The complex sensorless control scheme is not practical for use in the field of home appliance systems because it is not economical. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce a simplified sensorless control scheme that is composed of least calculation to estimate the rotor position. This paper presents the principle of the rotor position estimation with comparison of the estimated flux linkage and reference flux linkage. In order to verify the feasibility of the control scheme, ACSL is used for the simulation and TI DSP TMS320F240 is used for the experiment.
The problem of recongurable ight control is investigated, focusing on model reference adaptive control(MRAC) through imprecise fault diagnosis. The method integrates the fault detection and isolation(FDI) scheme with the model reference adaptive control, and can be implemented on-line and in real-time. The algorithm can cope with the fast varying parameters. The Simulation results demonstrate the ability of reconguration to maintain the stability and acceptable performance after a failure.
