  • In this study, Analyzed the effect of the change in RFA and RCA substitution rate on the concrete containing BS bonding materials but no cement. The findings are as follows. First, the fresh concrete has less slump value and air contents as more RFA and RCA is used. In case of hardened concrete, as more RFA and RCA are used, the higher the compressive strength of concrete becomes. Especially, the compressive strength of concrete which used recycled aggregates only is found to be 2.2 times as high as that of concrete using natural fine and coarse aggregates only. But if the concrete is to be used as the structural concrete having the compressive strength of 13.8 MPa, the alkaline materials and some cement are required to be added.

  • The purpose of this study is to provide the basic data on the optimum method for interfacial separation for an effective recycle of concrete waste by using the thermal properties of concrete. Therefore, this study is proceeded by dividing the interface of concrete into cement paste and fine aggregates or mortar and coarse aggregate, considering the aspect of recycled cement and aggregate as the recycling use of concrete waste. As results of the experiment, in case of recycle cement, the interfacial separation is easily appeared, but it is shown that the mixed amount of powder included in fine aggregate doesn't greatly decrease. But, in case of recycle coarse aggregate, the effect of interfacial separation by preliminary heating is predominant. Especially, the bonding rate of mortar is the lowest when it is heated 5 times for 120 minutes at $300^{\circ}C$. Hence, it is considered that it will be an excellent effect of quality control when the results of this study is applied to a manufacturing system of recycle coarse aggregate which is about to put into practical use.

  • This study is performed to examine the physical and mechanical properties of recycled polymer concrete using recycled coarse aggregate and recycled fine aggregate. Tests for compressive strength, flexural strength and pulse velocity with replacement ratio of recycled coarse aggregate and recycled fine aggregate are performed. As a result, compressive strength, flexural strength and pulse velocity of polymer concrete containing recycled coarse aggregate are in the range of $826{\sim}849kgf/cm^2,\;192{\sim}200kgf/cm^2\;and\;3,932{\sim}4,000m/s$, respectively. Compressive strength, flexural strength and pulse velocity of polymer concrete containing crushed stone only are $805kgf/cm^2,\;197kgf/cm^2$ and 3,931 m/s, respectively. Accordingly, recycled aggregates is expected that can be utilizing as an aggregate of polymer concrete.

  • This paper describes the experimental studies carried out to determine the properties of fresh and hardened concrete with Recycled Plastic Waste (RPW) as a partial replacement material for fine aggregates. In the experimental study, RPW was used for replacing river sand and manufactured sand (M sand) aggregates in concrete. The replacement level of fine aggregates was ranging from 5% to 20% by volume with an increment of 5%. M40 grade of concrete with water cement ratio of 0.40 was used in this study. Two different types of RPW were used, and they are (i) un-activated RPW and (ii) activated RPW. The activated RPW was obtained by alkali activation of un-activated RPW using NaOH solution. The hardened properties of the concrete determined were dry density, compressive strength, split tensile strength, flexural strength and ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV). The properties of the concrete with river sand, M sand, activated RPW and un-activated RPW were compared and inferences were drawn. The effect of activation using NaOH solution was investigated using FT-IR study. The micro structural examination of hardened concrete was carried out using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The test results show that the strength of concrete with activated RPW was more than that of un-activated RPW. From the results, it is evident that it is feasible to use 5% un-activated RPW and 15% activated RPW as fine aggregates for making concrete without affecting the strength properties.

  • This paper is to investigate experimentally the effect of substitution of recycled coarse aggregate(RCA) under 13mm on the engineering properties of the concrete using gap graded coarse aggregates. Concretes with 0.4 of water to cement ratio(W/C) were fabricated to achieve 30MPa of design strength with coarse aggregate over 13mm in size with the maximum size of 25mm. RCA was substituted for coarse aggregate over 13mm from 10% to 50% and crushed coarse aggregate under 13mm was also substituted for coarse aggregate over 13mm from 20% to 40%, respectively. Test results indicated that the replacement of RCA up to 20% resulted in an increase of fluidity and strength. It also caused a decrease in the drying shrinkage due to dense packing effect by achieving continuous grading of mixed aggregates. For practical application of RCA, when properly substituted, the use of RCA enabled the concrete to reduce water contents and sand to aggregate ratio in mixing design stage of the concrete. And, it can also enhance the compressive strength of the concrete.

  • Segmentation of material phases through image analysis is essential for analyzing the microstructure of materials. Micro-CT images exhibit variations in grayscale values depending on the phases constituting the material. Phase segmentation is generally achieved by comparing the grayscale values in the images. In the case of waste concrete used as a recycled aggregate, it is challenging to distinguish between hydrated cement paste and natural aggregates, as these components exhibit similar grayscale values in micro-CT images. In this study, we propose a method for automatically separating the aggregates in concrete, in micro-CT images. Utilizing the Unet-VGG16 deep-learning network, we introduce a technique for segmenting the 2D aggregate images and stacking them to obtain 3D aggregate images. Image filtering is employed to separate aggregate particles from the selected 3D aggregate images. The performance of aggregate segmentation is validated through accuracy, precision, recall, and F1-score assessments.
